FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Welcome to Christopher Pelonzi - our new Director of Liturgical Music This weekend, we welcome Christopher Pelonzi who begins service as our parish Director of Liturgical Music. Christopher graduated just last week with a Bachelor of Music from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. His area of concentration include organ performance, choral conducting, and music education. He is a native of Salem NH where he began playing the organ at his own parish at the age of 12. He served as the music director at a parish in Montreal throughout his college years. He has performed in recitals throughout New England, Pennsylvania, and Quebec. Welcome, Chris. We look forward to the music that will help us to worship and pray well together. Come To Father s Lawn Party Everyone is invited to come to FATHER S LAWN PARTY on Saturday, May 18, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. No fancy dress! No aperitifs! No hors d oeuvres! Just grubby clothes and work gloves! Father Degagne will provide the early morning coffee and donuts, snacks, and the noontime hot dogs and hamburgers. You bring the rakes, shovels, edgers, wheel barrows, clippers and anything else you might need to turn our church grounds into the show piece of Main Street. Donate flats of begonias or other flower. Do you have perennials in your landscape that need dividing - especially daylilies or sedum? We will sweep up the winter sand, rebuild the flower beds around the church and rectory, put down plantings, and spread mulch. If you can t do the yard work, come help prepare and serve refreshments, distribute water and serve as sidewalk foreman. If you are able to volunteer please fill out the form and drop it in the collection baskets or you may call the Parish Office. Sign me up! Name: Phone: Email: What you would like to do: Can you donate flowers (if yes what do you plan on bringing)? Choosing Godparents I have prepared the following information for parishioners because it responds to an important need choosing qualified godparents. I hope that you will help by being aware of what it means to be a qualified godparent and to share this information with your families, children and grandchildren. Most of what follows is in the parish website at. www.icceaston.org. Follow the liturgy and sacraments tab. The church asks those called to serve as godparents to fulfill some minimal requirements. I have outlined those requirements below. Serving as a godparent is not a reward or a prize. It is not offered just because someone is a nice person. Godparents fulfill a formal public ministry in the church. And so, the choice of godparents is an important decision made by the parents when they bring their child to the font. Parents should ask themselves two questions: First: Will the sponsors likely remain an important part of our family s life as our child matures? One role of godparents is to assist you in your duty as Christian mother and father. (Rite of Baptism, # 79). You may be close friends with someone, but friendship, or even family relationship, does not mean that person can help you or your child in matters of faith and spiritual life. One cannot give what he/she does not have. Second: Do they have an active and ongoing participation in the life of church? The other role of godparents is to speak on behalf of the church. They stand in proxy of the entire church which pledges to support you in your role as the first teacher of your child in the ways of faith. (Blessing: Rite of Baptism, #70.) For that reason, the church should expect that prospective godparents ought to have a minimal association with the community of faith they will represent. The following are the requirements set by the church to serve as a godparent: (General Instruction to the Rite of Baptism, # 10) Be mature enough to undertake this responsibility; Have received the three sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist; Be a member of the Catholic Church, canonically free to carry out this office. (This generally means that if a person is married, they must be validly married in the Catholic Church.) At least one godparent must fulfill the above requirements. A second person who is baptized from another Christian tradition may stand as Christian witness to the baptism. Parents may print the Baptism sponsor certificate, also in the parish website, and present them to the prospective godparents who must complete the form and have it signed by their own parish priest. Please contact the parish office with any questions concerning the selection of Godparents.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH April 28, 2013 Parish Collections Weekly Collection: $5,133.00 Total Collection for Week: $5,133.00 Mainspring Soup Kitchen Our next meal preparation will be on Thursday, May 2 nd @ 5pm in the parish hall kitchen. We will be serving the meal on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. Mainspring, Brockton. Hope to see you there! Organizational Meeting May 6 at 7:00 PM in the Upper Room To successfully launch a youth program, we must successfully gather a group of adults who are willing to serve as adult advisors. I extend the invitation to all adult parishioners young adults, parents, grandparents, couples any parishioner who is interested in serving, supporting, or even just giving ideas to the formation of youth ministry for our parish. There are many ways in which youth ministry is successful in many parishes. There are many models which can be used to help young people become active in their church, and enrich their faith. I believe that the best model is the one that a group of caring, believing, praying adults develops out of love for the faith and desire to share that faith with our youth. So who should come to the meeting? Anyone who is interested in our youth; Anyone who loves their faith and their church; Anyone who would like to share some ideas for our youth; Anyone who is even curious about what a youth ministry might look like. Anyone who wishes to create a supportive, nurturing, spiritual environment for our young people. Please join with us and volunteer to help give our youth the opportunity to share their many gifts and talents with our community at Immaculate Conception. Children s Liturgy of the Word Will Be Restored Soon Organizational Meeting May 20 at 7:00 PM in the Upper Room The Children s Liturgy of the Word will be restored in our parish at the 10:15 am Mass. Children aged 4 through Grade 6 will be invited to participate. At the point in the Mass when adults begin the Liturgy of the Word, the children will be dismissed with the adult leaders. They will go to other locations where they will hear and share on the daily Gospel passage in an age appropriate discussion. Teams of adults are needed for this ministry to take place. Please contact the Religious Education Office if you wish to participate. 4 teams of 4 adults each are needed for this ministry to take place. A meeting will be scheduled when there are enough adults to make this possible. For more information on how you can help, contact the religious education office. Thanks for your help. 2013-2014 Planning TO ALL PARISH MINISTRIES AND ORGANIZATIONS PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR 2013-2014 CALENDAR NO LATER THAN JUNE 1 What a great year! Please submit a complete calendar of your 2013-2014 activities to Joanna by June 1. Submissions can be dropped off at the Parish Office or emailed to rectory@icceaston.org. Be sure to include the following: Name of the event Day, Month, and Date Room needed Name of the event contact person with phone and email.
