St. Ann s Parish 2nd Sunday of Lent February 25, 2018 For the past few weeks, our parish has actively been conducting the Cardinal s Annual Stewardship Appeal. Cardinal Dolan mentioned in his letter that the Appeal is the lifeblood of our archdiocese and is critical to the work and life of each of its parishes, including our own. St. Ann s would not be able to exist were it not for the generosity of parishioners throughout the Archdiocese of New York who provide for the financial support of parishes whose income does not meet their expenses, such as our own. We can pay our bills only by an annual grant from the archdiocese from money raised in the Cardinal s Appeal. As we consider our pledge to the 2018 Cardinal s Appeal, we recognize that all we have is a gift from God. As a sign of our gratitude, we respond with a gift to the Appeal, which helps all Catholic institutions do their work of ministering to the needs of God s people. This work includes caring for our retired clergy and religious; educating our future priests; teaching children the truths of our faith; supporting parishes that need help with their expenses so they can still preach the Word of God and administer the Sacraments. This work also includes ministry offices that reach people of different ages and ethnicities. I know this year s appeal comes on the tails of our tremendous support last year of Renew & Rebuild, the campaign to raise $605,000 for the Archdiocese of New York and for St. Ann s, to which you responded with your ever-faithful generosity. I wish I could take a break from fundraising for a while, but the needs are always there, and the annual Cardinal s Appeal is our most important means of providing for the needs of those here at home, and we would be negligent in our duty as followers of Christ if we did not meet them. This weekend is our Commitment Weekend, and you heard me discuss at Mass the needs this appeal will address, and you had an opportunity to make your pledge at Mass. If you have been thinking and praying about a gift or a pledge, I ask if you would make your decision right away to make a sacrifice for those who need our help so desperately. I know we will make goal this year, as we do so every year, but let s see if we can make it soon! Thank you in advance for the generosity I know you will show. Drogadictos Anonimos Next weekend, representatives from the Corona Self-Help Center will be outside Mass asking for our inancial assistance. The Corona Self-Help Center (D.A.) is an organization that works with individuals and families suffering from substance abuse problems free of charge. D.A. s recovery programs are drug free residential settings, with treatment stages re lecting increased levels of personal and social responsibilities. With an approach similar to other 12-step programs, D.A. particularly serves those most in need. All D.A. representatives are former drug addicts who have found a new lease on life because of the spiritual component and programs offered to them by D.A.
