Introduction Coach Training and Resources for Spontaneous Disciple Making (Spontaneous means Motivated from within) In any endeavour, Winning Teams do not just happen. No, they are the result of vision, planning, strategy, training and persistence. Everyone wants to be on a winning team, but most people are not willing to pay the price. Winning Team Members are Champions who: have ownership of the vision develop trust within the team have common goals have credibility to influence others to make things happen have expertise and experience to accomplish the task who always Champion the cause of Christ and His kingdom When our Lord sent the disciples out to fulfil the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), the mandate was to recruit and train an army of committed disciples who would share the Gospel and make disciples around the world. This workbook is for those who understand this great opportunity and the magnitude of the task. You have been effectively leading others in a Discovery Group. You have been fulfilling the Great Commission. You have motivated and mobilized one or more people in your Discovery Group to begin a Discovery Group of their own. As a result, God has given you the opportunity to Coach these Group Leaders. This new opportunity could expand your ministry throughout the Church, Community and beyond to the World! You are one of a team of Coaches. Together we will (1) Evaluate and Develop our Character and Ministry Skills, (2) Plan for future expansion, and (3) Prepare to take this disciple-making ministry beyond our local Church or Ministry by training leaders in other Churches/Ministries. For maximum team accomplishment, each individual must prepare himself to the best of his ability and then put his talents to work for the team. You must discipline yourself to do what is expected of you for the welfare of the team. With out supervision and leadership and a disciplined effort by all, much of our united strength will be dissipated pulling against ourselves. Let us not be victimized by a breakdown from within. John Wooden Head Basketball Coach, UCLA God Bless you as you Coach your Winning Team! 3

Coach Training and Resources How to Use this Training Workbook As a Discovery Group Leader you should have: Received Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Been Baptised. Completed One-to-One Dynamic Basics and One-to-One Dynamic Discipling or are in the process of completing Dynamic Discipling. Before beginning to Coach Discovery Group leaders you should have: Successfully led a Discovery Group. Completed the Spontaneous Disciple Making Workshops. The above training comprised your Discovery Group Ministry base. This workbook is a continuation of that training and follows the same format. Each session is designed to assist your Coaching Team (you, your Pastor/Leader and the other Coaches) as you each lead and train your Discovery Group Leaders. You will evaluate your progress as you become a disciple-making Church/Ministry that is focused on the needs of others. Your Pastor/Leader will guide you through this training. There are a number of resource materials included that will help you build on the Discovery Group Ministry base that you have established. Like the above training, this book is designed to equip you so that you can use it to pass it on to your disciples (your Discovery Group Leaders as they become Coaches). Each time a group of Coaches go through this training seek to implement new strategies to improve the quality of ministry in your Church and Community. When to Meet We suggest that the Pastor/Church Planter/Leader meets with the Coaches together as a group once every 4 weeks to review and discuss the assigned session. Each Coach should have completed the appropriate session and assignments before the Coaches Training times and should be prepared to discuss with the Pastor and other Coaches the material covered. This time of Vision, Evaluating, Training, Planning, Sharing, Encouraging and Praying together will be a valuable and enjoyable experience. The Pastor/Leader should also meet individually with each Coach once every 4 weeks or as needed to encourage, equip and pray together. Note: These sessions are a great resource for the Pastors/Church Planters to study together with other Pastors in the Pastors Life Group where they can encourage each other and prepare themselves so they can use these sessions to equip their own Coaches. The Church is a Living Organism - a Body Built around Relationships - not an organization! It has been designed by God to be healthy, grow naturally and reproduce. However, while it is not an organization, it does need to be organized. 5
