LOVING GOD AND NEIGHBOR NOVEMBER 2016 The Presbyterian Spirit Stewardship is...love in Action! Dear Friends, This Sunday we were asked to write how our church has blessed us on a red heart in the bulletin. As I reflected on my answer, and the theme of this year s Stewardship Campaign, Love In Action, I realized that is exactly how FPC Owasso has blessed me. I matter here, and I am known here. I could go to one of the big box churches, it would be easy. Come and go anonymously, no one notices if I am there or not, just show up when I feel like it. I could have no responsibilities, no one needing me to serve on a committee or volunteer for anything. No one needing my money, give only if I feel like it. No strings, no commitments, easy. I choose to come to FPC Owasso however because of that love in action. I am needed here, depended upon, and when I lost my grandmother, or my mom had a serious surgery I also knew who to call, and that the members here would pray and take care of me. Love in Action. That love however does not come for free. We live in the human world where utilities, insurance, salaries and materials to share that love cost money. With a human heart I let fear influence my pledge last year. My job was going away, expenses were going up. I have kids, a mortgage, bills, after all, it costs money to raise a family too. In fear, I pulled back on my pledge. So this year, those little red hearts remind us all of the blessings this church brings, but for me, it reminds me how much this church needs courageous hearts and courageous givers. It reminds me that I must find my courageous heart and take another step forward in my giving. The blessings of this church matter to me, and I matter here, and none of it is free. God has provided, I can be brave and take a step forward in faith. What we have here is worth it.
