Prayer Of Salvation MEMORY VERSE: TAKE HOME POINT: Romans 10:9, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (NLT) Pray the Prayer of Salvation to get born again. TO THE TEACHER: The purpose of this lesson is two-fold: 1. To challenge any unsaved children. 2. To teach kids how to pray this prayer with others. According to Romans 10:9, all you have to do to be saved is believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. Many of our kids are Nintendo evangelists. Imagine all the kids who would get saved if we just taught our church kids to evangelize their friends. This week you will cover two important points in the Prayer of Salvation. First, you will challenge any unsaved children to ask Jesus into their heart. Second, you will teach the kids in your class how to pray the Prayer of Salvation with other kids. Many kids know how to tell their friends about God, but they don t know how to close the deal. In other words, they don t know how to lead another child in the Prayer of Salvation. LESSON 3 PAGE 1

digital comic book The Adventures of the Masked Hero Episode #3 Panel 1 TO THE TEACHER: Goal: get the kids to laugh and introduce the lesson. At the conclusion of the Digital Comic Book, Johnny asks the question What is the Bottom Line? Words pop up one at a time. Encourage your kids to guess the Bottom Line as the words pop up. Next Commissioner Thornton asks the question What is the Memory Verse? Again words pop up one at a time. Panel 2 Panel 3 It is motivating to reward the first child to guess the Bottom Line and Memory Verse. Panel 4 LESSON 3 PAGE 3

Drama Take Home Point: Characters: What You Need: Martha Stewie: World s Best Sandwich Learn how to pray the Prayer of Salvation Martha Stewie Mr. Stewie (Martha s husband) Sandwich on a plate Drama Script: Today we have a special guest. She s a world-class chef and an award-winning homemaker. (Martha Stewie enters with her husband who is munching a sandwich.) Kids, I d like you to meet the one and only Martha Stewie. She s here today because her husband wants to pray the prayer of salvation. Yes, it s wonderful. I ve been praying for quite some time that he would accept Jesus, but But what? But now he won t stop eating this sandwich. (The husband munches away, mumbling about how good it tastes.) Wow, that does look delicious. That s because it features delectable corned beef with jalapeno swiss cheese and a subtle hint of horseradish. (Mr. Stewie takes another giant bite and savors the delicacy as he chews.) Continued on next page LESSON 3 PAGE 4

Martha Stewie: World s Best Sandwich Drama Script Continued Can I have a bite? (Teacher reaches for the sandwich half that is on the plate, and Mr Stewie pulls it away and gives him an angry look.) It s best not to get your fingers too close to his food. (The husband growls at him and protects the sandwich.) Now do you see the problem? What problem? We came here because he wanted the kids to help him say the prayer of salvation, but now he can t do it because his mouth is always full of food. Oh that is a problem! If his mouth is full he can t say the prayer. Exactly, and the sandwich is just too delicious. He can t put it down. (Mr. Stewie mumbles with a mouth full of the delicious sandwich.) Well, maybe we can help. That would be wonderful, but how can we get him to stop eating long enough to say the prayer? Well, what if we promised him dessert after? (The husband s head turns in interest and he mumbles something.) Continued on next page LESSON 3 PAGE 5

Martha Stewie: World s Best Sandwich Drama Script Continued That s a great idea. If you stop eating that sandwich long enough for the kids to help lead you in the prayer of salvation, then we can go home and I ll bake you a delicious, chocolate fudge Lava Cake smothered in gooey caramel sauce and topped with homemade fudge. (The husband spits the sandwich on to the plate.) It worked! Okay kids, will you help me lead him in the prayer of salvation? (Allow the kids to respond) Dear Heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned... MR STEWIE/KIDS: Dear Heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned. I believe that your son Jesus died for my sins on a cross and rose from the dead. MR STEWIE/KIDS: I believe that your son Jesus died for my sins on a cross and rose from the dead. I invite Jesus to become Savior and Lord of my life. MR STEWIE/KIDS: I invite Jesus to become Savior and Lord of my life. Amen! MR STEWIE/KIDS: Amen! Continued on next page LESSON 3 PAGE 6

Martha Stewie: World s Best Sandwich Drama Script Continued Tell me Mr. Stewie, how do you feel now that you have Jesus in your heart? MR STEWIE: I feel so good I could...eat a sandwich. (Mr. Stewie grabs the other sandwich half and takes a big bite, savoring the flavor as Martha and her husband start walking toward the exit.) Thank you kids! Now dear, save room for dessert! (Martha and Mr. Stewie exit the room as he gobbles up the sandwich.) The End LESSON 3 PAGE 7

object lesson It Takes Two Scripture Reference: Romans 10:9, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (NLT) Take Home Point: What You Need: PREPARATION: 1. Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. 2. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. Two dead car batteries (borrow from an auto store) 1 pair of jumper cables Wooden or Rubbermaid table (no metal on table) Make sure batteries are dead. Before class place them on table. Object Lesson Application: Kids, let s pretend for a minute that I am not a Christian. I walk into children s church today and say, I want to become a Christian. Can anybody pray with me to become a Christian? (If someone raises their hand, ask them to come up front and lead you in the Prayer of Salvation. There is a good chance that most of the kids will not know how to pray with somebody else to get saved.) (Next you will want to challenge the kids in your class.) As Christians we need to know how to pray the Prayer of Salvation so we can do what Jesus said and fish for men. The Prayer of Salvation is really easy to pray. It is kind of like these jumper cables. (Hold up the jumper cables.) Has your mom or dad ever left the lights on in your car and the car battery died? What do you need to do if the car battery dies? You need to Continued on next page LESSON 3 PAGE 8

It Takes Two Object Lesson Continued borrow someone else s car and hook up the dead battery to the live battery. (Hook up both of the positive lines with the red clamps.) Okay, I ve hooked up the batteries now. Is this good enough? (Allow for response.) No? How come this isn t good enough? Oh, I see. I also have to hook up the negative cables. If I just hook up the positive cables - nothing happens. The Prayer of Salvation is like this. You have to do two things to be saved. 1. (Hold up red cable) Believe in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead. 2. (Hold up black cable) Say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. If you just do one of these, nothing happens. There is no flow of God s power for salvation. Who can tell me what are the two things you need to include when praying the Prayer of Salvation? 1. Believe in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead. 2. Say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. Now would be a great time to give a salvation altar call. You could even let one of the older kids pray with the children who come forward. LESSON 3 PAGE 9

Keep asking until someone gets it right by including both steps: 1. Believe in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead. 2. Say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. For the child who prays the prayer correctly, give them a prize. Feel free to create other characters to visit your class that need salvation. LESSON 3 PAGE 10
