Practices that God Hates Bible Study 1. Servants of God love what is good but they must learn to hate what is bad. Ps. 97:10: Ye that love the Lord hate evil. That means avoiding practices that God hates. What are some of these practices? 2. Fornication: Sex before marriage, adultery, bestiality, incest, and homosexuality are all serious sins against God. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another: men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Romans 1:26-27 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither Fornicators, nor Idolaters, nor Adulterers, nor effeminate(homosexuals, lesbians) nor abusers of themselves with
mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers (verbal abusers) nor extortioners (thieves) shall inherit the kingdom of God. Cor. 6:9-10 If a couple are not married but are living together, they should separate or else get legally married. Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled, but whoremongers (fornicators) and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews 13:4 3. Lying, Gambling, Stealing: God cannot lie. In the hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2. Persons who want His approval must avoid lying like a plaque. These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief. Pr. 6:16-19. Lie not to one another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds: having put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created us. Col. 3:9-10 Every form of gambling, such as lotteries, horse racing, casinos and the like. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient (fitting): but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Eph. 5:3-5 and Christians do not steal; they do not knowingly buy stolen property, or take things without permission. Thou shalt not Steal. Exodus 20:15 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Eph. 4:28
4. Fits of anger, violence and uncontrolled anger can and do lead to acts of violence. It is wrong to take revenge or to return evil for the bad things that others might do to us. Say not, I will do to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work. Pr. 24:29 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. If thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good. Rom. 12:17-21. 5. Magic Spells and Spiritualism. Some people call on the power of the spirits to try to heal sicknesses. Others cast spell on their enemies to make them sick or even kill them. The power behind all these practices is Satan; so Christians must not take part in any of them. When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass thru the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or an consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect before the Lord thy God. Deut. 18:9-13 Staying close to God is the best protection from spells that may be cast on us by others. The Name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and are safe. Pr. 18:10
6. Drunkenness. It is not wrong to drink a little wine, beer, or other alcoholic beverage. Ps. 104:15 And wine maketh glad the heart., Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to too much wine, nor greedy of filthy lucre. 1 Timothy 3:8 Not Drinking in moderation can ruin your life and disrupt your family, and, it can cause you to give in quickly to other temptations. Be not among the winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? Who hath babblings? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Pr. 23:20-21, 29-32 7. Persons who practice things that God s Word say are wrong, will not inherit the kingdom of God. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, Fornication, Uncleanness, Lasciviousness (vices, licenteousness) Idolatry (worshiping anything else with God) Witchcraft, Hatred, Variance (quarreling), Emulations (jealousy), Wrath, Strife (causing strife, disputing), Seditions (dissentions), Heresies (false doctrine), Envyings, Murders, Drunkenness, Revellings (rioting-as if letting loose), and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal. 5:19-21
If you really love God and want to please him, you can break free from these practices with God s help. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His Commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3 Learn to hate what God says is bad. Let love be without dissimulation (deceit, hypocrisy) Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Romans 12:9 Associate with people who have godly habits. He that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. Pr. 13:20 Mature Christians may prove to be a source of help. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much. James 5:14-16) Above all, rely on Gods help thru prayer. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. And the Peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Phil. 4:13
