Jazz Vespers returns in March! Sunday, March 4 & 18 at 5 p.m. Jazz Vespers aims to help us connect with God by experiencing our traditional sacred music in a new way. This spiritual encounter has the structure of a traditional worship service, but all of the music, including several congregational hymns, is led by our house jazz trio supplemented by special guests from the New York jazz scene. On March 4, worship will be led by Sarah Michal, music director of the Methodist Church on the Green, and the Steve Hess Trio will be joined by trombonist Eric Storckman. On March 18, our very own Matt Webb will lead, joined by saxophonist and flutist Anton Denner and bassist Takashi Otsuka. Annual Presbyterian Women Retreat Saturday, March 10 You won't want to miss the annual Presbyterian Women of Newton Presbytery retreat. This year it will be held at The Shrine of St. Joseph in Stirling, NJ on March 10, 2018 from 9 am to 4 pm. The leader will be Colleen Duffy, who has been creating Spirituality Centers for adults and children for several years at the First Presbyterian Church of Newton. Escalation Workshop with One Love Foundations Sunday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m. Parents are invited to join us for a viewing and discussion of the short film Escalation. A light lunch will be provided. Founded in 2010 to honor the life of Yeardley Love, who was killed by her boyfriend, the One Love Foundation works to educate everyone about healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors. Faith on Film: Fences Sunday, March 11 at 4:00 p.m. Join us for an evening of film and discussion moderated by our own film aficionado, Vern Verhoef. Salad and pizza will be served after the film. Fellowship Hosts Needed! The Community and Membership committee is looking for hosts for fellowship hour. We all enjoy the time to be with each other, but in order to continue providing snacks at Sunday coffee hour, it is necessary to expand the list of hosts. Groups can get involved as a way to provide fellowship to honor an event or member. Even if you have never done this before we will partner you with experienced hosts and have detailed instructions. Having a few hosts each week will make it more enjoyable for the hosts and being a host is a great way to get to meet and greet others.
