Stewardship Training In recent correspondence the council mentioned they would be concentrating more on improving our church s financial situation and considering how we can raise funding so as to be able to guarantee the employment of a full-time minister. An important part of this project is to increase the awareness of the congregation as to our financial situation. During our deliberations on the profile papers submitted to the Diocese of Europe, Archdeacon Peter Potter and Area Dean Kenneth Dimmick generously offered their time to come to Freiburg and offer training in Finance and Fund-raising ministry. They will be coming on Thursday 9th October and the training session will begin at 19.30h at the church. If you are interested in finding out more you are warmly invited to attend this training session. All you need is a Bible, note paper and pen. For further information please speak to any council member. Tiddlywinks The group for babies and toddlers with their parents! The Anglican Church in Freiburg has a group for the very young members of our congregation, babies and toddlers up to the age of three, and their parent(s). It meets twice monthly, on the first and third Thursday of each month, from 9.30 to 11.00. We aim to interact with our young members in a playful way, and meet the needs of the parents in a supportive discussion on a given topic, all provided with juice, tea, coffee and biscuits. ANGLICAN CHURCH IN FREIBURG NEWSLETTER PAGE 3 Our own Laurence Nodder, who is College Rektor at the UWC Robert Bosch College, is hosting us all at a combined Women's / Men's Breakfast at the College from 8.00 to 9.30am on Saturday 1st November. More information and the opportunity to sign up will be provided during the Notices at the end of the services in the next few weeks. Please mark the date on your calendars as this should be an interesting event. CAECG Meeting in Lübbecke Solveyg and I went to the CAECG Autumn meeting at the Church House in Lübbecke. Church House is owned by the British Army but is used as a Retreat Centre. Several lectures were planned and a meeting with our new Diocesan Bishop Dr. Robert Innes. Solveyg had the important task of bringing the Bishop from the station to Church House. You can see her in the Hogwarts style dining room with our former and present area dean and the Bishop. Bishop Robert took a great interest in our church when we had a chat after the bar closed. There were two sessions followed by a very open, honest, and interesting discussion about Church finances and German Vereinslaw. What a jungle! The speaker Heidi Grau-Easthill was treasurer for more than 10 years in Munich. She shared her immense knowledge with us and promised to help us if we need her advice. Her email address is in my address book and Solveyg made a lot of notes. Ask her if you want to know more. The next day saw a cooperation between the northernmost and southernmost Anglican Churches in Germany. Fr. Matthew Jones from Hamburg and I did a session about What is a Churchwarden. You can see me here struggling with technical problems. But the warden of the house was a huge help and so our presentation was a success. It was a good feeling to meet our fellow Anglicans, to worship together, to talk, and to share our joys and sorrows. We are in their prayers. Almut Schulz

ANGLICAN CHURCH IN FREIBURG NEWSLETTER PAGE 5 News News News News News International Ecumenical Centre Dear All, An Intercultural Ecumenical Centre is being established by the Evangelische Kirche of Baden. It will be based at the church of the Petrus Gemeinde, Lorettostraße 59, 79100 Freiburg, our former host church. The idea behind the centre is to build a community comprised of different denominations that would sometimes worship, study and celebrate together, but also maintain their own unique congregations and services. The goals of this centre as defined by the Evangelische Kirche are: - To nurture our faith in Jesus Christ as witnessed in the Holy Scripture - A calling to honour Jesus and bear witness to the Gospels in our day-to-day lives - To build a community in His spirit, breaking barriers of language, nationality and denomination The Anglican Church in Freiburg has been warmly invited to participate in this project by the Petrus Church. Being part of this centre at its initial stage and playing an integral role in its setting up and development is an exciting project for the ACF. There will be a great deal of publicity and media attention surrounding this project, and we firmly believe this will give our church a higher profile within Freiburg and the surrounding neighbourhood, which will in turn lead to growth and more financial stability for the ACF. It is also a unique opportunity to start a local ecumenical partnership under the terms of the Meissen agreement. The Petrus Gemeinde has made us an offer to move back into the building in the Loretto Strasse and play a decisive role in setting up and developing this intercultural, ecumenical centre. They would like us to take an active and prominent role when the centre is officially opened 29th/30th November 2014. The timing could not be better as our contract with the Adventist Church expires at the end of 2014. Initially we would be partners solely with the Evangelisch community. Further communities would join the centre at a later date, as it grows and develops. The philosophy underlying this undertaking is outlined by the Petrus Gemeinde: - The centre is to be developed in partnership - It should be home to participating communities - The centre should encourage partnership and networking - It should radiate a sense of living faith in diversity As you know, we hope to have our new minister installed by 1 st March 2015. This is a wonderful opportunity for a new minister to become involved in the establishing and molding of this centre right from the very beginning and to be able to play an instrumental role in determining the course of its development. We are really very excited about the ACF playing a central role in furthering ecumenical growth in the town of Freiburg and beyond, which we believe will in turn raise the profile and standing of the of the Anglican Church Freiburg, attracting newcomers to visit us. Should you have questions, we are very willing to answer them as best we can. Yours in Christ The Church Council Anglican Church Freiburg
