Welcome to AWANA! I am excited to have your children in Awana clubs! Awana is fun with a purpose - to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ, to help them fall in love with Jesus and help them to serve Him. Awana s at Valley Grace Brethren Church is on Wednesdays from 6:30pm - 8:00 pm. Participating in Awana is a wonderful way for your child to grow deeper in their faith and love for God. They will learn and memorize the Bible which is God s Word (you'll memorize a lot too!). In the pages that follow you will find some important information about AWANA. Please take the time to look it over. If you have any questions please ask. I am looking forward to a great year! 10,000 Blessings Pastor Jim www.valleygrace.net/childrens-ministries

What Do Kids Do At AWANA? The club meeting is divided up into three parts: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council/Large Group Time. Game Time The clubbers have fun while learning to be a part of a team. The games are designed to allow each child to participate and encourage team spirit. Handbook Time Each clubber will have a handbook to work in. Clubbers are encouraged to complete one handbook each year. Leaders work in small groups with the clubbers to listen to them recite the sections they have prepared. No matter what age your children are, they will need your help with their Bible memorization. Encourage your child to work on their books during the week, so they are prepared on club night. As you know, cramming in the car on the way to church may produce a verse for the short term, but usually won t be retained for the long term. The handbooks are also a great tool for family Bible memorization. Section Completion Standard: A child needs to recite the required material in the handbook section to their leader. Children will be given a maximum of two helps or prompts per section. That means only two hints to complete all the required work and verses exactly as they appear in the text. A section may include more than one verse and the references must also be learned. Clubbers must complete all handbook requirements to earn awards. Council/Large Group/Bible Study The time when clubbers come together to learn a Biblical lesson. Clubbers regularly hear the gospel message, apply truths of scripture to daily life, and gain tools for Biblical living.

Club Standards Illness standards set forth by Valley Grace Brethren Church. We ask that you do not bring clubbers who have colds to share. Please make sure clubbers are fever and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to coming. We expect our clubbers to follow the behavior rules set by Valley Grace Brethren Church. We expect them to stay with their group and not wander around the church building unsupervised. 5-Count and the 3-Count Awana Discipline Rules. If a leader needs to get the group of children quiet, the leader will raise his/her hand and begin to count to five. Children are to immediately come to order. Children not in compliance with the 5-count will receive a warning, the first under the 3-Count. If a child receives three warnings, he/she will be removed from the club area, and the leader will call the director/commander to call the child s parents if necessary. Clubbers should: 1. Be on time. Club starts at 6:30 pm-8:00 pm 2. Be in Uniform. Clubbers should wear their uniform vest or shirt and gym shoes. 3. Be Prepared. Clubbers bring their handbook and should be ready to pass sections. 4. Be Respectful. Clubbers are expected to listen to leaders and to follow directions

What are the Awana Clubs? Awana offers different clubs depending upon the age of the children. Home school children should be placed in class with children of the same age. Cubbies designed for 3 and 4 year olds for the two years before attending kindergarten. Children must be 3 by Sept. 30 of the current club year. Sparks Kindergarten though Second grade students. Children in the Kindergarten class must be 5 by Sept. 30 of the current club year and be enrolled in kindergarten. If your child is not enrolled in kindergarten at school, please enroll them in cubbies and start sparks next year. T&T (Truth & Training) Third through fifth grade students.

The Awana club for children 3 and 4 years old is Cubbies! The Awana club for preschoolers is built on two premises: 1. Young children can and should receive spiritual training. 2. Home is the primary place for spiritual training. Our preschool program meets these needs through Fun and lots of it! Awana is fun with a purpose AWANA is here to reach and guide kids to know and love Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our preschool program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand. Friendly characters and leaders Cubbie Bear, Luv E. Lamb, Ern. E. Elephant, Zip E. Zebra and Gigi Giraffe take preschoolers on a thrilling journey through God s Word. Caring, committed volunteer leaders nurture your children spiritually as Christian role models and teachers. Foundational teaching Bible-centered handbooks and club activities help your children begin to build a solid understanding of the basics of Christianity at an early age. Family involvement Cubbies is unique because it supports parents as the primary source of spiritual nurturing. By working directly with your child on the weekly handbook lessons, you become an active participant in your child s spiritual growth.

The Awana club for children in kindergarten through second grade is Sparks! The aim is to take youngsters a step deeper into God s Word/the Bible while giving boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the gospel and to trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Immersing kids in God s Word The Sparks program is firmly grounded in Scripture. The handbooks feature: 1. Basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible 2. An increased emphasis on Scripture memory In three years, a child will learn and review around 68 verses, many of which cover salvation and key Christian faith. 3. Clear and consistent presentation of the gospel message Fun + learning = results Sparks club meetings combine learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement for churched and unchurched kids alike. Club meetings are divided into three segments: 1. Bible teaching, worship, award presentations and the gospel 2. Small group interaction and completion of Bible-based lessons 3. Age-appropriate Awana games Along the way, Sparky, the friendly firefly, encourages boys and girls to learn verses and complete assignments throughout the three handbooks.

The AWANA third-grade through fifth-grade program is Truth & Training (T&T)! Our goal is that many of today s young people will become tomorrow s church leaders. T&T is equipped with a variety of dynamic tools to accomplish this mission: Four handbooks of increasing difficulty which teach kids that life s ultimate adventure is a personal love relationship with Jesus Christ. A cast of fun characters that boys and girls learn from and follow on interesting journeys in the handbooks Weekly meetings that point kids to the gospel message, Scripture memory, Bible study, awards, team- games and gut-busting fun A Bible-centered curriculum that helps kids build a firm foundation for their faith, hide God s Word in their heart and apply the truths of Scripture to their daily lives Evangelism and discipleship go hand in hand in our third through fifth-grade program. By the time a child has completed T&T, he will have: Learned and reviewed around 310 verses Studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testament Regularly heard and read the gospel message Discovered the Bible s response to questions like How does God want me to live my life? and memorized verses to back up these answers.
