TN SAR Color Guard in Action 2014 Click on photos to enlarge On the 11th of November 2014 the Stephen Holston Chapter Rifle Company Color Guard marched in the Veterans Day Parade in Knoxville, TN. The Color Guard consisted of Compatriots David Johnston, Lee Johnson, Tracy Wilson, Paul Jorden, Lynn Fox, Ron Jones and Wayne Croley. They carried the Colors to Honor the Veterans on their Service to our Country.

Page 2 of 13 On November 11th, 2014 the TNSSAR Color Guard led the Veterans Day Parade in Franklin, TN. Compatriot Bob Hughes portrayed Ben Franklin and led the Parade with Color Guard Compatriots Commander David Miles Vaughn, Colin Wakefield, David Eagan, Fred Ryan, James Hobbs, Allen Poteete, Edward Phillips, Larry Pool, Steve Gaines and Dennis Harris carried the Colors and Muskets for this day to Honor our Patriots. On Saturday the 8th of November 2014 the Joseph Greer Chapter had a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Colonel James Lewis in Decherd, TN. At 12 noon. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was both Bill Comer and Colin Wakefield. The Guest Speaker was Dr. Michael Bradley retired US History Professor and Author. The TNSSAR and ALSSAR Color Guard presented the Colors and a 3 Shot Volley to Honor this Patriot and TNSSAR VP David Eagan played Taps. There was about 50 people in attendance with Descendants and Guests. Color Guard in Picture L to R: Commander David Miles Vaughn, John Clines. Page 3 of 13 On the 26 th of October 2014 at 3 pm, the James Madison Chapter had a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Lt. Jonas Clark in Jackson, TN. John McCutchen was the Master of Ceremonies with Southern VPG Rick Hollis giving Greetings and TNSSAR VP David Eagan giving greetings from the TN State Society. It was a Great Ceremony with about 50 in attendance. The TNSSAR Color Guard presented the Colors and a Musket Salute for this District Event. Page 4 of 13 On the 18th of October 2014 in Red Boiling Springs, TN was a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Henry Wakefield of the NC Militia. The invitation for the Marking was by the Col. Anthony Bledsoe Chapter. The Master of Ceremony s was 4th Great Grandson TNSSAR Compatriot Rev. John Wakefield of the Kings Mountain Chapter and 4th Great Nephew Colin Wakefield gave greetings for the Tennessee Society. It was an Wonderful event with approximately 90 people including Descendants (in picture with Color Guard) and Guests in attendance. On the 27 th of September 2014 the TNSSAR Color Guard was at Fort Defiance in Clarksville, TN for the 2 nd Annual Frontier Sevier Days. We Burnt a lot of Powder for this event. There was approximately 275 people that came out through the day to see this event. Page 5 of 13 On September 21 st, 2014 the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution had the 13 th Annual Constitution Week Bell Ringing on the Tennessee State Capital grounds at the Liberty Bell Replica. Our TNSSAR Color Guard presented the Colors for this Celebration. On the 20 th of September 2014, the TNSSAR had the annual ceremony for the Gathering at Sycamore Shoals in Elizabethton, TN. This was a National Color Guard Event. Compatriot Ronnie Lail of the Watauga Chapter was the Master of Ceremonies. The Color Guard from several different states joined in with the TNSSAR Color Guard, commanded by David Miles Vaughn to present the Colors.

Page 6 of 13 On September 19 th, 2014 the TNSSAR Watauga Chapter had a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Captain William Armstrong at the New Providence Church Cemetery in Surgoinsville, TN. Ronnie Lail was Master of Ceremonies. This was a District Event with Southern District VP Rick Hollis in attendance. The TNSSAR Color Guard with VASSAR, SCSAR and ALSAR Color Guard and others presented the Colors and Shot a 3 Shot Volley with 2 Cannon Shots Fired. On the 13 th of September 2014 the Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter TNSSAR also had another Grave Marking in the afternoon for Revolutionary War Patriot Pvt. Joseph Atchley at the Pisqah Baptist Church Cemetery in Ten Mile, TN. Col. Benjamin President Dave Whaley was the Master of Ceremonies. It was an Excellent Ceremony with 16 Guardsman in Attendance. With 13 TNSSAR Guardsman, 2 Sons of the Revolution Guardsman and 1 of the John Sevier Memorial Association. The Grave Marking was attended by 92 people including 19 descendants. Page 7 of 13 On the 13 th of September 2014 the Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter TNSSAR had a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Pvt. John Sutton at the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Ten Mile, TN. Col. Benjamin President Dave Whaley was the Master of Ceremonies. It was an Excellent Ceremony with 17 Guardsman in Attendance. With 14 TNSSAR Guardsman, 2 Sons of the Revolution Guardsman and 1 of the John Sevier Memorial Association. The Grave Marking was attended by 98 people including 13 descendants. We had a 3 shot volley with the Firelocks a Blazing. On July 4th, 2014 the Valentine Sevier Chapter and the TNSSAR French Lick Color Guard commanded under Past State Color Commander Roger Tenney were in Clarksville, TN for the reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Courthouse steps at 9am. Southern District Vice President Rick Hollis was also in attendance along with Guardsman L to R: Bob Parker, TNSSAR Color Guard Commander David Miles Vaughn, Johnny Head, Jim Thweatt, Donald Horton, Fred Ryan, Rick Hollis, Clarence Watson, Roger Tenney and Dennis Harris.

Page 8 of 13 On 24 May 2014, The Daughters of the American Revolution Tennessee Society French Lick Chapter hosted a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Zaccheus Wilson at the Wilson Cemetery in Eagleville, TN. The Wilson family stills lives on the land where Zaccheus Wilson got his Land Grant from the Revolutionary War. This was an Awesome Ceremony that Direct Descendant Nancy Parker planned. There were many Descendants that attended and some of the youngest portrayed Zaccheus and Eleanor Wilson. Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution President Claude Hardison gave greetings form the TN Society. The TNSSAR Color Guard presented the Colors and fired a Musket Salute to this Patriot under the command of TNSSAR State Commander David Miles Vaughn. With TNSSAR Color Guard members: Larry Pool, Dennis Harris, TNSSAR President Claude Hardison, Edward Phillips, David Eagan, Bob Hughes, Allen Poteete, John Clark, James Hobbs and Roger Jackson. On Saturday the 24 May 2014, there was an 1812 Grave Marking for Brig. General William "Buck" Martin and Capt. John Hughes at the Martin-Hughes Family Cemetery at Rural Plains in Franklin, TN. Direct Descendant Compatriot Bob Hughes was

Page 9 of 13 the Master of Ceremonies. The guest speaker was Brig. General Terry Ethridge, Director Joint Staff, TN National Guard. The TNSSAR Color Guard presented the Colors led by State Commander David Miles Vaughn. Color Guard Members: Larry Pool. James Hobbs, Roy Harrell Phillips, Roger Jackson, Allen Poteete, Maury Miller, John Clark and Fred Ryan. On May 18, 2014 the TNSSAR Andrew Jackson Chapter hosted a Grave Marking in Bellevue, TN at 2:00 pm for Revolutionary War Patriot Abraham Louis Demoss who was the Company Captain of the Horse Wilkes County Regiment Militia North Carolina. Abraham was the founder of Bellevue. The Master of Ceremonies was the Honorable Francis Marable Horn, Lieut. Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Retired. The Guest Speaker was Nashville Historian Ridley Wills. This was awesome event put on by this chapter and a beautiful Marker Monument installed. The TNSSAR Color Guard was led by Tennessee State Commander David Miles Vaughn with Color Guard members are Front Row L to R: Larry Pool, Dennis Harris, Roger Jackson, Colin Wakefield and Roy Miles. Back Row L to R: TNSSAR Commander David Miles Vaughn, Fred Ryan, Maurice Kellogg, Ed Phillips, David Eagan, Allen Poteete, Maury Miller, Bob Nash and James Hobbs. On May 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm, the Col. Benjamin Cleveland hosted a Grave Marking at the Lee Cemetery in Cleveland, TN for Revolutionary War Patriot Pvt. Joseph Lane of the Virginia Militia. The ceremony was with out a doubt a huge success. We got rained on, but that is the dedication of our TNSSAR Society to honor a Patriot as they did battle in all kinds of weather. Chapter President David Whaley was the Master of Ceremonies. There were many Lane Descendants in attendance with a joint Color Guard of TNSSAR and SR Sons of the Revolution participating in the presentation of Colors.. The TNSSAR Color Guard members in attendance led by TNSSAR State Commander David Miles Vaughn with John Clines, Fred Ryan, James Hobbs, Sam Allen, Claude Hardison, Stan Evans, James Stone, Hunter McLain, Doug Carpenter and Phil Newman.

Page 10 of 13 On Saturday May 10, 2014 in Ewing, VA. The Raid at Martin s Station at the Wilderness Road State Park. This Reenactment is on the Wilderness Trail on the Way to the Cumberland Gap passage to Kentucky. We were part of the opening Ceremonies with 3 different Color Guard company s participating. The Colors were led by the Virginia Society Color Guard with 5 TNSSAR Color Guard members marching with them and James Hobbs was carrying our TNSSAR Flag to represent us. We as the SAR posted the Colors. This was a National Color Guard Event. PG Dooley sent down a representative from the NSSAR with wreath to present at the Grave of Gen. Joseph Martin. Our Col. Anthony Bledsoe, Watauga, Kings Mountain and the Andrew Crockett TNSSAR chapters presented their wreaths at the SAR marker and the Grave of Gen. Martin also. On May 4, 2014 in Brentwood, TN at 2 pm at the Harpeth Valley Farm, the Andrew Crockett Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution hosted a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Samuel McCutchen. It was an Awesome Ceremony with Representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution who placed a wreath at the Grave. Page 11 of 13 On April 19th, 2014 "Patriots Day" at 2 pm, the Col. Anthony Bledsoe Chapter of The Tennessee Sons of the American Revolution had a Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Patriot Maj. William Cage in Gallatin, TN. It was a Huge Success. The Color Guard turnout was Great and Many Thanks to them. HUZZAH!!!
