UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST INSTALLATION SERVICE Installation services occur within the first year of a settled minister s time with a congregation. Rev. Emily Wright-Magoon began her ministry with UUCOM September 1, 2015 and was called by the congregation to be our settled minister on November 15, 2015. This Installation service celebrates not only the start of Rev. Wright-Magoon s ministry with this church, but also our shared ministry together, working to live out our mission and vision. CHURCH MISSION Our Mission is an expression of how we hope to build the Beloved Community here in the Permian Basin. ORDER OF SERVICE Prelude Permian Basin String Quartet Processional Hymn * As Tranquil Streams #145 As tranquil streams that meet and merge and flow as one to seek the sea, our kindred hearts and minds unite to build a church that shall be free Free from the bonds that bind the mind to narrow thought and lifeless creed; free from a social code that fails to serve the cause of human need: A freedom that reveres the past, but trusts the dawning future more; and bids the soul, in search of truth, adventure boldly and explore. Prophetic church, the future waits your liberating ministry; go forward in the power of love, proclaim the truth that makes us free. Responsive Reading Barbara Handley Don t leave your broken heart at the door: Bring it to the altar of life. Don t leave your anger behind It has high standards And the world needs vision. Act of Installation Sally Flores and Members of UUCOM President: We gather to install Rev. Emily Wright- Magoon as minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Midland, Texas. In doing so, we rededicate ourselves to the values of this religious community and of the liberal religious tradition of which it is a part. For Unitarian Universalists, the relationship we here recognize lies between congregation and minister. We enter into a covenant, pledging mutual respect and collaboration, openness and trust. Now, on this day, we install you, Emily, as our minister, to live and serve, to learn and love with us. Are you ready and willing to undertake the commitments of this ministry? Emily: I am. President: Will the members of the congregation please rise now and read responsively with me the words for the act of installation from the order of service. (Members words in red italics) We cherish our congregation for its historical achievements, for those who founded and nurtured it and for those who again and again have faithfully transformed it when our mission called us to do so. We celebrate this congregation s call to welcome diversity, empower spiritual growth, foster the interdependent web, and transform lives. We cherish our church and our community for what it is and for what it may become through our united efforts. We would have you dwell among us, speaking your truth to us and listening to our truth; Growing with us in our understanding of love, courage, and faith; ministering to us alike in times of joy and sorrow; and leading us in our commitment to the life of principled action. We also acknowledge the call of shared ministry and pledge to you our support and collaboration. Emily, are you ready and willing to enter into this ministry among us? Emily: I am! With a deep sense of gratitude, trusting in the transformative power of Love, and with your continuing support, I joyfully take up the ministry into which you have called me. May our time together promote justice, peace, and love, so as to show forth the promise of our faith. And let the people say: All: Amen, Blessed Be, Namaste. Prayer of Installation and Laying on of Hands Rev. Scottie McIntyre Johnson Charge to the Congregation Rev. Lora Brandis Anthem The OK Chorale One Voice Ruth Moody In accordance with the practice of our tradition, We, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Midland do hereby install you, Emily Wright-Magoon, as our Minister. Charge to the Minister Rev. Chuck Freeman

Benediction * Rev. Emily Wright-Magoon Recessional Hymn * We ll Build a Land #121 We ll build a land where we bind up the broken. We ll build a land where the captives go free, where the oil of gladness dissolves all mourning. Oh, we ll build a promised land that can be. Chorus: Come build a land where sisters and brothers, anointed by God, may then create peace: where justice shall roll down like waters, and peace like an ever-flowing stream. We ll build a land where we bring the good tidings to all the afflicted and all those who mourn. And we ll give them garlands instead of ashes. Oh, we ll build a land where peace is born. Chorus We ll be a land building up ancient cities, raising up devastations from old; restoring ruins of generations. Oh, we ll build a land of people so bold. Chorus Come, build a land where the mantles of praises resound from spirits once faint and once weak; where like oaks of righteousness stand her people. Oh, come build the land, my people we seek. Chorus WE ARE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS We are brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers. We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history and spirituality, but aligned in our desire to practice our faith and beliefs in tangible ways. We foster respectful communities hallmarked by action, love, and acceptance of all people. We have radical roots and a history as selfmotivated spiritual people: we think for ourselves and actively object to what we believe is wrong. We have a track record of standing on the side of people, love, justice, and peace. All are invited to a reception in the fellowship hall. Our faith has always been motivated by a desire to contribute to the greater good. * Please stand as you are willing and able
