Saint Nicholas Announcements November 12, 2017 Worship Today, we are pleased to welcome Rev. Phil Hirsch. Phil is the Assistant to the Bishop & Director for Evangelical Mission, ELCA Metro DC Synod. His morning message will speak to our need to give as a response to all that God has given us, and the blessings we can offer as a congregation and as a community of believers. Budget Forum and Congregational Meeting Mark your calendars for two very important meetings. Our Budget Forum will be held TODAY in the Fellowship Hall during the Sunday School hour. The annual Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, November 19 th in the North Wing. Tree of Angels Calvert County Tree of Angels program is getting ready to help children of families in need. Saint Nicholas has been a participant in this annual program that provides toys and gifts for local families. Tags with gift preferences will be available on Sunday Nov 19. If you would like to help, please get a tag (or two) on Sunday. Gifts will be due back at church by Dec. 10. If you have questions concerning CC Tree of Angels, please contact Carol Blatt. Volunteer Needed SNLC has a seat on Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry Board of Directors that we need to fill. This person would represent SNLC at the CCCFP Board meeting twice a year. If interested or have questions, please see Jamie Flanders flandersfamily05@gmail.com. Holiday Food Baskets For $50, Calvert County Churches Food Pantry can assemble a complete Thanksgiving dinner for a family in need in Calvert County. You can contribute to a portion of a basket, or a whole basket. Please place a check in the offering plate made out to Saint Nicholas Lutheran Church, with Holiday Baskets on the memo line. Thank you. 9

The Food Pantry During the month of November and December, Saint Nicholas will be collecting canned ravioli, beef stew, stuffing mix, muffin/cornbread mix, oatmeal (instant or regular), grape or strawberry jelly/jam, Nutri Grain bars for the Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry. Thank you for your support! Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry, Inc. Your food pantry, the Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry, Inc. has operated in Calvert County since 1992, that's 25 years. With nine congregations, we are able to provide good, nutritious food to over 900 individuals each month. We don't provide everything they need, but a majority of the food staples. We are open Monday through Wednesday from 9 am until noon. We load ten tons of food into the pantry each year, and we give it ALL away. We are 100% all volunteers, and you'll feel better about helping others than you ever do about time on Facebook or playing solitaire. What we really need is a few more volunteers each day, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, for just three hours in the morning. Please consider taking a chance on this ministry supported by your church. Maybe you can only commit to just once or twice a month that would help so much. Please contact Carol Blatt for more information at tlblatt@comcast.net. Blood Drive The Blood Drive on October 14 resulted in 30 pints of blood donated, which can help as many as 90 people! The next Blood Drive is scheduled for Saturday, December 9 from 7:30am 12:30pm. Make an appointment at 1 800 733 2767 or wwww.redcrossblood.org, to avoid long lines. T.P. for P.E Thank you to everyone who contributed to our T.P. for P.E. drive. In the 3rd quarter, we collected 338 rolls of toilet paper for a grand total of 1,004 rolls for the year. Our last collection of the year will be delivered to Project Echo following worship on December 31. Keep the generosity rolling in! 10

Project ECHO Thank you to the Girl Scouts for preparing the October meal for Project ECHO. If you'd like to help prepare a portion of the November meal, please sign up on the bulletin board in the narthex, or contact Kathy Dangin at kdangin@live.com. This meal will be served on the fourth Sunday, November 26 th. Offering Counters Needed Between the need for covering two weekly services and the loss of a couple of current offering counters, we have lots of openings for offering counters for 2018. Ideally, I would like to have enough counters to form four 2 person teams for each service so each team would usually count the offering one Sunday each month. If you are interested or simply want to know more about what counting the offering involves, please contact Tom Blatt (tlblatt@comcast.net). Arrangements can be made for you to see the current offering counters in action to get a good idea of what counting the offering is really like. Thank you for your consideration in volunteering for this important church ministry. Altar Care The Altar Care team is in need of a few additional volunteers. The Altar Care Team prepares the table for communion, along with a few other weekly chores, such as refilling the candles with oil. If you would like to consider volunteering to serve once a month, for either service, please contact Pam Werner at pwerner3@comcast.net. Christmas Program This year s Sunday School Christmas Program is December 17, at 4:00pm and the theme is Twas the Night Before Christmas. We need several volunteers to help organize the costumes for the Sunday School students. Please contact Elizabeth Taby at elizabethtaby@gmail.com for more information. Taste Buds Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with your Taste Buds at Thanksgiving Farm Winery! The Taste Buds will be gathering on Saturday, November 25 at 1:00. Check out their website at http://www.thanksgivingfarm.com/. Thanksgiving Farm Winery is located at 195 Harwood Rd, Harwood, MD 20776. Contact Bryan Mullins with any questions. We hope to see you there. 11

Lunch Bunch The Lunch Bunchers will meet at Brick in Prince Frederick on December 14. Put it on your calendar to join us at noon on the 2 nd Thursday of each month for food and fellowship.
