New Midweek Class Starts November 1 Gideon Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm, Starts November 1, Parlor When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky, but Gideon s story is about God and His people, His love for them, and His strength operating in spite of their weakness. This study will encourage you to recognize your weakness as the key that the Lord gives you to unlock the full experience of His strength in your life. Led by Julie Barlow. Cost is $18. Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm, Starts November 1, Parlor Register at myasburytulsa.org Concert of Thanksgiving Sunday, November 12 6 pm in the Sanctuary. Asbury s Chancel Choir and New Covenant Orchestra will join New Life Symphony Orchestra for a Concert of Thanksgiving! UNITED in Prayer Sunday, November 5, 6 pm, Mason Chapel. After Jesus ascended into Heaven, His followers were constantly united in prayer (Acts 1:14). In that same spirit, we will continue our first Sunday prayer gatherings. We will unite around intentional focus areas. Join pastors this month as we pray for personal healing needs, healing for our land, and healing prayers directed towards the Persecuted Church. Invite your family and friends! For more information, contact Cheryl at PrayerCoordinator@asburytulsa.org.
Excerpt from the Sermon Journal, Monday, October 23, 2017 Written by Pastor Tom Harrison You Have One Business on Earth to Save Souls This phrase was something John Wesley emphasized to his preachers. There are a lot of different words we use to describe salvation, being saved, being born again, conversion, redemption, justification by faith, and regeneration to name just a few. We are saved when we understand God s great love for us, receive His forgiveness (made possible by Jesus atonement for our sins) and trust Him. There are a wide variety of ways this happens to people (everyone is different). It is very hard for us to receive this gift of salvation, as we feel we must make ourselves worthy of it. Salvation is an on-going relationship that culminates in eternal life. We are on mission to help others follow Jesus by knowing His great love, forgiveness and salvation. And while we might have one business, the reality is that nobody can save anyone s soul. That s God s work. But we can be witnesses and we can prioritize leading people to Christ. That s what Wesley was after helping others follow Jesus. Notes:
Announcements Chris Cleveland Farewell Concert TONIGHT, 7 pm, Venue In honor of his outstanding music ministry here at Asbury and the success of his Christian band, Stars Go Dim, we are proud to invite his church family and community to a FREE concert. You will be able to hear some of his best-known songs. bread of life? DONUTS in the CLC Every Sunday, 10:30-11 am Everyone knows donuts are little more than an excuse to eat cake in the morning, so we are clearly not doing this for anyone s health. Instead, we are reviving the time-honored Methodist tradition of donuts in the fellowship hall to give us an opportunity to gather, connect, share a moment, and maybe a donut or two, with our fellow Asburians. See you there! Donation of $1 per donut. Proceeds benefit Disaster Relief
