Statement of Faith Brethren Christian is committed to following God s Word in every aspect of the school s faith, teaching and practice. This Statement of Faith expresses the school s understanding of the primary doctrines of scripture. Part One is the school s understanding of the doctrines that are absolutely essential. It defines the boundaries of this faith-community. Every employee, student, and at least one parent must whole-heartedly agree with all of Part One. Part Two is the school s understanding of important doctrines of scripture that are foundational to its curriculum and teaching, past, present and future. The school recognizes that many spiritually mature and intelligent Christians who are serious students of God s Word differ on these issues. Part One: ESSENTIALS OF THE FAITH THE BIBLE: We believe that the Word of God, the sixty-six Books of the Old and New Testaments, verbally inspired in all parts, and therefore wholly without error as originally given of God is the sole authority for the faith, doctrine and practice of all believers. (2 Timothy 3:16; and 2 Peter 1:21). THE TRIUNITY OF GOD: We believe the one true God exists eternally as three persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Mark 12:29, 30; Matt. 28:19 and II Cor. 13:14). THE FATHER: We believe the Father is the Creator of all mankind, the author of our salvation before the world began, the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ and, in a very special way, the Father of all who believe in Jesus Christ for salvation (Acts 17:29; Ephesians 1:3-6; Matthew 3:17; and Galatians 3:26). THE SON: We believe Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh by virgin birth. Being fully God and fully human, He lived a sinless life, died in our place for our sins, bodily arose from the dead, ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of God, possessing all authority in heaven and earth. He is currently preparing a place for us, is our high priest, the Head of His body, the church, and is coming again to set up His earthly kingdom. (John 1:1, 14:29; Matt. 1:18-23; Heb. 4:15; I Pet. 3:18; I Cor. 15:3-19; Acts 1:9-11 and John 14:1-6). THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. At every believer's point of conversion, the Holy Spirit causes spiritual rebirth, indwells, seals, bestows gifts, and baptizes the believer into the body of Christ. He continues to sanctify, guide, teach and fill the believer who walks in obedience to the Living Word. (Acts 5:3,4; John 16:7-13; John 3:5; Romans 8:9; Eph. 4:30; I Cor. 6:11, 19; Romans 8:14; John 14:16-17 and Eph. 5:18-21). MAN: We believe in mankind s direct creation in the image of God and that human life begins at conception. Through Adam, mankind fell into sin resulting in spiritual death for all, leaving all humans in need of salvation. (Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 3:1-24 and Romans 5:12) SALVATION: We believe in a complete, eternal and individual salvation from sin, death and hell into an eternal relationship with God by His grace alone, received as a gift through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7 and 1 Peter 1:18-19). THE CHURCH: We believe all believers from Pentecost to the return of Jesus Christ are members of the body of Christ, the Church, which Christ is continuing to build. This body is manifest on earth in local churches where believers should assemble for teaching, fellowship, prayer, praise, and ministry (Eph. 1:22,23, 3:4-6, 5:32; Matt. 16:18 and Acts 2:42-47). THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: We believe every believer has been given the joyful privilege of an on-going, moment-bymoment relationship with the God of the universe. Through His Spirit, He empowers believers to live a life of faith and love. God s purpose for believers is to bring good into a fallen world through them. God s purposes for each individual are unique and His plan is for good not evil. As the scriptures teaches, the believer is to live a life of righteousness and good works, maintain a Godly home, settle differences with believers within the Church, exhibit the fruit and fullness of the Spirit, and fulfill the Great Commission in making disciples of all nations. Believers are to be separated unto God from worldliness and any conduct or lifestyle that is condemned or not clearly affirmed

or supported by Scripture (including but not limited to, sex outside of a legal marriage, bisexuality and homosexuality or any belief condoning such conduct, lifestyle or sexual orientation as morally acceptable or legitimate) which thwarts God s redeeming work in this world. (Rom. 1:18-32; Rom. 12:1-2; Eph.2:8-10, 5:22,6:4; I Cor. 6:1-8; Gal. 5:16-23; Eph. 5:18-20; I Peter 4:10-22; Matt. 28: 19-20 and Acts 1:8) Part Two: ADDITIONAL TEACHING POSITIONS ANGELS: We believe God created all angels. Some angels remain faithful to God and are God s ministering spirits to His people (Gen. 1:1; Ps. 33:6; Heb. 1:13-14). SATAN AND DEMONS: We believe Satan is real and an adversary to God and mankind. Some angels followed Satan in his prideful rebellion against God and became demonic adversaries of God and all mankind. These angels are limited by God s omnipotence, and await final incarceration in the lake of fire. (Rev. 12:3-4; Matt. 12:24-27; Job 2:1-2; Rev. 20:10; Matt. 25:41; Col. 2:15, Eph. 6:12). BAPTISM: We believe water baptism is an act of obedience, but not essential for salvation. (Acts 2:38; I Peter 3:21). SANCTITY OF LIFE: We believe human life begins at conception, therefore the abortion of innocent human life (except when the mother s life is in imminent danger) is abhorrent. (Psalms 51:5; 139:13-16). SPIRITUAL GIFTS: We believe that the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to all believers in order to edify the body of Christ (the church). We do not believe that any specific gift is required for salvation or spiritual maturity. FUTURE LIFE: We believe Jesus Christ is coming back before the Tribulation to remove His Church to heaven. Following the Tribulation period of seven years, He will return to this earth with His saints and angels to rule and reign for 1,000 years after this will be "eternity future" where all believers will live eternally with God in a new heaven and earth. (Daniel 9:24-27; Matthew 24:15-31; Matt. 25:46; John 3:16, 5:24, 10:27; 14:1-3; I Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13-18, 5:1-9; II Thessalonians 1:7-10; Revelation 3:10, 19:11-16, 20:4-6,21-22). ISRAEL: We believe that Israel is God s chosen national people. In God s sovereign will, Israel serves as a channel of His blessing to the entire world for His glory, and His witness to the nations (Isa. 43:10). God s election of Israel for this unique relationship is irrevocable (Ro. 11:28-29). We believe Israel is distinct from the church and central to God s plan, past, present, and future. The unfulfilled prophecies given to Israel in the Old Testament will find their literal fulfillment in Israel at a future time (Gen. 28:13; Isa. 43:7; 43:10; Psalm105:6-10; Romans 11:28-29). I have read, understand and agree wholeheartedly with Part One of the Brethren Christian Statement of Faith. If at any time I find myself out of harmony with any of the tenets of Part One I will voluntarily withdraw (or dis-enroll) my student from school. I understand that Part Two is the official position of the school. Father: Date: Mother: Date: Student: Date:
