Born Again MEMORY VERSE: TAKE HOME POINT: John 3:3,...except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. (KJV) The first step in growing up spiritually is to be born again. TO THE TEACHER: The first step in growing up spiritually is to be born again. You will teach your class how we get born again and that we are new creatures in Christ. The first step in growing up spiritually is to be born again. You can t grow spiritually until you have been born spiritually. Once you are born again, you are what the Bible calls a baby Christian. It s good that you are born again, but that is not the end. It is just the beginning of an exciting new life in Christ. How do you get born again? According to Romans 10:9 you must do two things in order to be born again. First, you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. Second you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. We are new creatures in Christ. Once you are born again then you become a new creature in Christ. Old things are passed away, all things have become new. You still have the same body, but on the inside you are a new person. You get a fresh new start. You have been born again. This new man will begin to have an effect on your behavior. The apostle Paul had a dramatic change when he became a Christian and you will too. GROW UP 2.0 - LESSON 2 PAGE 1

These rinds can be used for an ad-lib prop by NTB when engaging the kids.) (Bantering with kids.) (NTB enters through a rear door and shouts.) HELP! Not Too Bright: Borned Again Drama Script Continued Ya that s right; it s a law ALL CHURCHES MUST ALLOW ALL BORNED AGAIN PEOPLE WHO ASK FOR HELP TO STAY IN THE CHURCH FOR FREE...EVEN IF THE POLICE COME. I ve never heard of a law like that, and why are the police coming? Ever hear of McCrady s Watermelons? Yes, he s a farmer right? That s the guy. Well I was walking through his patch earlier today, and I accidentally stepped on a watermelon. That s not so bad. I m sure Mr. McCrady didn t call the police over one watermelon. You can just go back and pay for it. No big deal. You didn t let me finish. Oh? I had never stepped on a watermelon before. It was so...liberating. I felt free... alive. At first they were just steps really stepping and stepping, but the steps turned to stomps. HaHaHa. I stomped and I stomped. Whahaha. So anyways if the cops come you gotta hide me, because I was borned again earlier today; that s the rules. You asked Jesus into your heart today? I don t know why you re talking about Jesus for I said borned again. See I have my Bible. Well if you were born again you had to ask Jesus into your heart. That s the first step. Having a Bible doesn t make you Born Again. Continued on next page GROW UP 2.0 - LESSON 2 PAGE 5
Not Too Bright: Borned Again Drama Script Continued It doesn t? No problem I have my tie right here. Nope that doesn t do it either. That stinks. I met some guy outside. He sold me this Bible, and tie. Then I paid him a twenty dollar offering in his bucket, and he said I was now Borned Again. Giving offerings doesn t make you born again either. Having a Bible, wearing ties, giving these are all good things, but if you want to be born again you have to ask Jesus into your heart. What? That s stupid, I m not doing that. Besides I didn t bring that much cash. You don t have to pay anything, it s a free gift. Nope not doing it. What, why not? I m Not Too Bright. But you wanted to be born again earlier. So? Uh oh sounds like I can hear some sirens. OH no that s my cue. Later churchman. (NTB Exits) The End GROW UP 2.0 - LESSON 2 PAGE 6

I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart (NLT) Jesus will give you a brand new heart. 1 hammer 1 heart sized rock 1 rubber heart (if you are more adventurous use a pig s heart available at most butcher shops) SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Paint the rock black using spray pain. Paint the word Sin on the black rock in red letters. Object Lesson Application: Okay guys, the Bible says that God will take away our stony heart and give us a new heart. What do you think that means? Before we are born again our hearts are like this rock. (Hold rock up for kids to see. Strike the rock with the hammer several times for effect.) Our hearts are hard because they are full of sin. We don t want to do bad things, but it seems no matter how hard we try to do what s right we just can t stop. When our hearts are hard like this rock they are packed with selfishness, anger, meanness and being an all around grouch. There is only one way to change a stony heart. Some people try to change their heart by themselves. They do nice things like help little old ladies across Continued on next page GROW UP 2.0 - LESSON 2 PAGE 7
Heart Of Stone Object Lesson Continued the street, or recycle their soda cans, but really there is nothing you can do to change your own heart. You must first let God change your heart. If you will let him, Jesus will get rid of your stony heart... (Throw stone away.)...and give you a brand new heart... (Hold up real heart.)...that is soft and full of the love of God. How does this happen? All you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart and make him the Lord of your life. When Jesus comes in, He kicks out that stony heart full of sin, and gives you a brand new heart that wants to serve him. GROW UP 2.0 - LESSON 2 PAGE 8
Inter-active OBJECT lesson Just Say It WHAT YOU LL LEARN: To be born again you must say with your mouth. WHAT YOU NEED: 1 roll grey duct tape 1 giant candy bar 1 contestant PREPARATION: Place 2-3 pieces of duct tape over your volunteer s mouth. I am holding in my hand a giant candy bar and I have an assistant that can have this candy bar and all they have to do is say, I would like the candy bar. (Hold up giant chocolate bar and turn to assistant.) Okay, go ahead, ask me for this candy bar. Go ahead. Simply say, I would like the candy bar. What is the matter, does the cat have your tongue? Oh, you can t say anything. (Do this several times to get the class stirred up.) (Remove the tape.) Okay, now can you say something? (Allow assistant to ask for the candy bar.) Ah, the Bible says that we must believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and say with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. We must say with our mouth. We can t just hope it, or think it, we must say it. When we say with our mouth that Jesus is our Lord and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, then we can be born again. Just say it! GROW UP 2.0 - LESSON 2 PAGE 9
