Michigan Militia Members Serving in the War of 1812 Part 2 Continued from January 2013, 43-50 Diane Wolford Sheppard, FCHSM Member bluecolumine@comcast.net The muster rolls of the Michigan Companies that served in the War of 1812 were taken from Muster Rolls for the Territory of Michigan War of 1812, ((R) 74 355.95 U58m), a typed manuscript in the Burton Collection at the Detroit Public Library. The manuscript was typed from information received from the Adjutant Generals Records, National Archives, Washington, D.C. The following information was transcribed for each company: name, rank, dates of service, and comments for the period including August 1812 when American General William Hull surrendered the Michigan Territory to British General Isaac Brock. Names have been transcribed as they appear in the manuscript, including obvious typographical errors. The spelling of some names in the typed manuscript differs from those that appear in Michigan s Early Military Forces: A Roster and History of Troops Activated Prior to the American Civil War. 1 Whenever possible, I have added standardized names per Jetté 2 in brackets for French or French-Canadian members of the militia. When an individual s first name or surname implies that they may be French Canadian, but the surname does not appear in standard sources or the individual is not listed in Denissen, 3 possibly French Canadian appears in brackets. The names of French Canadians appear in bold-face text. Starting with the July 2007 issue of Michigan s Habitant Heritage [Vol. 28, no. 3], FCHSM member, Allan R. Treppa, has written a series of articles about the veterans of the War of 1812.
