Fr. Mike. Much Love, MARCH 18, 2018 ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

Transcription:

HAIL MARY, FULL OF GRACE For most of the Church's history, no feasts were celebrated during Lent. The exception is the Feast of the Annunciation on March 25 (the date calculated backwards from the Nativity (Christmas.) In this feast, the Church commemorates two events important to all humanity. On this day, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary to announce that she was to be the Mother of the Redeemer and Messiah promised for centuries. On the same day, the Incarnation took place: God the Son, the second person of the Trinity, assumed a human body and soul and became the Son of Mary and Joseph. Sometimes one action of one person changes life for everyone. Adam and Eve deciding to disobey God is one example, bringing Original Sin into the world. The Annunciation is another very important example. 'Annunciation' sounds like announcement, and that's what happened. An angel appeared to Mary and 'announced' that she had found favour with God and would bear a son, Jesus, Son of the Most High. Mary answered, Fiat ('Let it be done to me according to Thy Word'). One simple action of saying 'Yes' to God changed everything. Mary became the Mother of God, and Our Blessed Mother. Jesus grew up in Nazareth, taught his disciples and died on the Cross for all our sins. The Feast of the Annunciation is an opportunity to bow our heads and thank Our Blessed Mother for her faith and trust, and to offer our own trusting 'Fiat' to God's plan for us. domestic-church.com Preface of the Mass for the Solemnity of the Annunciation Father, all powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. He came to save mankind by becoming a man himself. The Virgin Mary, receiving the angel's message in faith, conceived by the power of the Spirit and bore your Son in purest love. In Christ, the eternal truth, Your promise to Israel came true. In Christ, the hope of all peoples, our hope was realized beyond all expectation. Through Christ the angels of heaven offer their prayer of adoration as they rejoice in your presence for ever. May our voices be one with theirs in their triumphant hymn of praise. THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST We will be showing Mel Gibson s extraordinary film, in the church, tonight, Sunday, March 20, at 7:00 pm. A powerful Lenten spiritual preparation.

THE TRUE FACE OF THE FATHER This year our Lenten mission will be led by Fr. Guy Desrochers, C.SS.R, a Redemptorist priest who preaches parish missions, both in French and in English, all over North America. The mission will be held Sunday to Wednesday evening, April 3-6, beginning at 7:00 pm (with partial rosary at 6:40). Live musicians and refreshments. Penance service on Tuesday evening. A great spiritual preparation for Easter. Faith First parents are required to attend this mission. PARISH FINANCE UPDATE Ash Wednesday: $871.41; Last Sunday: $2,843.02. Many thanks to all. Time will tell, but the suggestion of giving the first hour of your weekly income to the Lord seems to have struck a note with some parishioners. BE REFRESHED IN MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT Silent directed weekend retreat at Maison de Prière Notre-Dame, Longueuil. From Friday evening, April 1, to Sunday afternoon. Immediate registration required. Call (514) 626-9462 or visit www.montrealretreats.org ST. MARY S HOSPITAL FASHION SHOW & LUNCHEON Sunday, April 10, at 12 noon, at Royal Montreal Golf Club, Ile Bizard. For more info and reservations, call Francine Rebetez at (514) 345-3511, ext. 3031. COME, WALK WITH ME Presented by Sister Kay Duffin, cnd, and Father Gerald Westphal at Transfiguration of Our Lord Parish, 11775 Filion Street (corner Dudemaine) on Friday, March 25 (7 to 9 pm) and on Saturday, March 26 (9 am to 1 pm). Bring a box lunch on Saturday. $5 per person. For more info, call (514) 334 0531. FOOD FOR THOUGHT "Saints are not freaks or exceptions, they are the standard operating model for human beings. Because, as Charles Peguy put it, "life holds only one tragedy, ultimately: not to have been a saint." In fact, in the biblical sense of the word, all believers are saints. Saints are not the opposite of sinners. There are no opposites of sinners in this world. There are only saved sinners and unsaved sinners. Thus holy does not mean "sinless" but "set-apart:" called out of the world to the destiny of eternal ecstasy with God." Peter Kreeft ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
