Prelude Your Best Is Yet to Come Hymn This Little Light of Mine Music - Louis Armstrong; Words - Tom Andrews Band sings verses Congregation Chorus: This little light of mine, I m gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I m gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I m gonna let it shine Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness (Time of Silence) People of God, in Christ we have been set free. However, we often engage in slavery to our sin again and again. We have been promised in Scripture that God has set us free in Christ Jesus so that we do not have to submit to the yoke of slavery. Let us take a moment of silence to return our hearts to God, who is full of mercy and abounding in steadfast love. 2
Gracious God, we come back to you to be forgiven. We have broken lives that need mending. We have ignored the poor, refused to forgive, and have turned our backs on you. We have used our freedom for self-indulgence, and used our words to hurt and destroy. Gracious God, turn our hearts to you and to the world you so deeply love. We ask this in the name of your Son, our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Anthem How Great Thou Art The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day Faithful God, fear is deadly to our faith. We become frozen and paralyzed by its threats and whispers. However, your promise of abundant life sets us free. Cast out fear and sustain our faith so we may participate in the freedom from fear that comes from your Holy Spirit. Amen Lesson 1 John 4:16b-19 God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. We love because he first loved us. WE INVITE CHILDREN TO DOCK AT THIS TIME Please make sure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. ************* See FRONT OF INSERT for Pickup Locations ************** Anthem Love Lifted Me 3
Psalm 27:1-3, 6 Read in unison The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and foes, they shall stumble and fall. Now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. Holy Gospel John 14:25-27 (spoken) Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said to them, I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. (spoken) Praise to you, O Christ. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 4
