The Choirs of St. Paul s The St. Paul s Choristers are a choir of young people affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music in America. Through fine choral music, the Choristers learn about teamwork, responsibility, commitment, setting and achieving high standards, how to read music, and how to sing. The Choristers work together as a team and mentor each other. The Choristers appear at services at St. Paul s many times throughout the year. Open to young people age eight (seven for advanced readers) through high school. No prior singing experience is necessary. David Sinden, the Organist & Minister of Music, is always delighted to hear from prospective choristers and their families. The Chancel Choir sing every Sunday at the 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist. This semi-professional choir s primary role is to lead congregational singing, which includes traditional Anglican hymnody as well as more recent and ecumenical forms of liturgical music. Sometimes meditative chants, such as those of the Taizé community, and other styles are used. On most Sundays the Chancel Choir sing a short anthem during the distribution of Communion. The choir s diverse repertoire includes early-american hymns, African-American spirituals, and music from other traditions. Additionally, the Chancel Choir sing for other special services throughout the year, including the MLK I have a dream Celebration with Woodville School, and the Epiphany Procession & Holy Eucharist. This choir is open to those with some music reading ability. The Parish Choir, formed in 1895, are a semi-professional choir who sing every Sunday at the 11:15 a.m. service. Each Sunday, in addition to leading service music and five hymns, the choir sing an introit, Anglican chant Psalm, anthem at the Offertory, and motet during Communion. The Parish Choir s wide-ranging repertoire is thoroughly steeped in the Anglican choral tradition and ranges from the proper chants of the Mass, to Tudor polyphony, to newly composed anthems and motets. Additionally, the Parish Choir sing a number of special services throughout the year including the Advent Procession with Lessons & Carols, A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols on Christmas Eve, the Candlemas Procession, and occasional services of Choral Evensong throughout the year.
