Fourth Sunday of Lent Parish News The following are traditional Lenten disciplines: Journeying Through Lent Fasting & Abstinence: Catholics of age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. In addition, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics from age 18-59 fast, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day. Prayer: Catholics are encouraged to pray more during Lent, especially with Scripture. Lent is also an ideal time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for the celebration of Christ s Passion, Death and Resurrection. Almsgiving: Moved by the sacrifice of Christ, many Christians combine almsgiving with fasting, giving to the poor the money they saved by eating, drinking, or buying less as they rely more upon God s abundant grace. Holy Martyrs Lenten Candy & Bake Sale will take place the weekend of April 1 & 2. We could use your help in donating homemade baked goods, nicely wrapped and labeled for this sale. Please sign up online through the email that was sent to you or on our website, www.holymartyrs.net. Please drop off your bakery Friday, March 31 (by 5:00 pm), or Saturday, April 1 (by 10:00 am), or before Mass. Help is also needed with the sale tables after Mass. Any questions, please call Melinda at 330.725.3264. The PRAYER SHAWL GROUP of Holy Martyrs has beautiful prayer shawls available for anyone who might derive comfort from a shawl. These have been made with prayers for their comfort and healing. Holy Martyrs Church March 26, 2017 Medina, Ohio Parish News JUST FOR LENT SMALL GROUPS During Session 3 of our Eucharist series by Bishop Robert Barron, we discussed Eucharist as Sacrifice. Some of the main points for discussion were: The significance of Jesus as the Sacrificial Lamb of God offered up as expiation for our sins The Eucharist is the memorial of Christ s sacrifice, which restored us to communion with God. Christ s death on the cross is the one, true, and ultimate sacrifice which sealed the New Covenant. The Eucharist is the sacrifice of right worship through which we share in the Divine Life. By transforming us, it will transform the world. Please pray for all those participating and leading our Just For Lent Small Groups. Holy Martyrs Church March 26, 2017 Medina, Ohio Parish School of Religion - 330-952-1466 Sixth Grade Living Stations Congratulations and a special thank you to our sixth graders and the Catechetical team for an awesome presentation of the Living Stations to our PSR students and their parents. What a fantastic expression of the gifts our children have and how well they used their gifts to serve the Lord and his people. Confirmation families have been serving Donut Sundays, and we have been so blessed to have them meet people and serve donuts, coffee and milk on Sunday mornings. The younger children are excited to see the young folks serving their donuts and milk. You will be seeing more of our confirmandi as they begin more service work in the coming months. Please encourage them when you have the opportunity. Happy Anniversary, Pope Francis! Here s a quote from Pope Francis, who just celebrated his fourth anniversary as pope: "In our complex and violent world, it is truly a formidable undertaking to work for peace by living the practice of nonviolence. Equally daunting is the aim of achieving full disarmament 'by reaching people s very souls', building bridges, fighting fear and pursuing open and sincere dialogue. The practice of dialogue is in fact difficult. We must be prepared forgive and take. We must not assume that the others are wrong. Instead, accepting our differences and remaining true to our positions, we must seek the good of all; and, after having finally found agreement, we must firmly maintain it." Helping the Less Fortunate at Easter We will again be collecting candy, Easter baskets and small gifts for women's and children's shelters in the area. A sign-up link was sent to PSR families via email.
