Our itinerary Day 1, Monday 26th February DEPARTURE TO THE HOLY LAND We gather at London Luton Airport and check-in for a morning flight to Tel Aviv. On arrival at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport we will be greeted by our guide and then driven north to the town of Nazareth in Galilee where Jesus grew up. Check-in to our Christian run guest house in good time to freshen up before dinner. Overnight stay in Nazareth Megiddo - King Solomon s chariot city Day 2, Tuesday 27th February MEGIDDO - HAIFA - CARMEL -TIBERIAS This morning we leave our hotel after breakfast and drive into the green and fertile valley of Jezreel, the biblical scene of Armageddon and visit Solomon s great chariot city of Megiddo with its ingenious water tunnel. We then continue to the Mediterranean coast line to visit the ancient Roman and Crusader city port of Caesarea Maritima to view the remains of the harbour, fortifications, twin water aqueducts and theatre. It was here that Paul was imprisoned for almost two years before his trial in Rome. For Christians it is a place of great significance as it was here too, that Peter baptised the first Gentile, Cornelius the Roman Centurion. After a break for lunch we continue through Haifa and on up Mount Carmel to visit Mukhraqa, the place where Elijah defeated the prophets of Ba al. We then proceed to meet our friends close by before finally returning to Nazareth and our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Nazareth. Caesarea Maritima - The Roman Theatre
Sailing on the Sea of Galilee Day 3, Wednesday 28th February JESUS GALILEAN MINISTRY After breakfast we begin exploring the sites connected with Our Lords Ministry. We board a boat and sail on the Sea of Galilee to Ginosar to visit a Galilean fishing boat from the time of Jesus. We then drive to Tabgha to visit the Church of the Loaves and Fishes and the Church Primacy of St Peter, before continuing to the summit of the Mount of the Beatitudes, which overlooks the places where Jesus lived and worked. We then proceed to the ancient fishing village of Capernaum, the centre of Jesus Galilean Ministry, to view the House of Peter and a partially reconstructed 4th century synagogue. We will also visit the exciting new excavations of Migdal, the home town of Jesus friend Mary Magdalene which has revealed the remains of a fish village and synagogue. We then return to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Nazareth. Nazareth - The House of Mary Day 4, Thursday 1st March MOUNT TABOR - NAZARETH - CANA - BAPTISMAL SITE After breakfast we visit the Church of the Annunciation, Mary's Well and the Old synagoguechurch. After a break for lunch we drive to the village of Cana to visit the church which commemorates Jesus First Miracle, the changing of water into wine at a wedding feast. Late morning we visit Mt Abel (Mt Precipice), the site where Jewish worshipers drove Jesus out of the synagogue and attempted to throw him off a cliff. After a break for lunch we drive to the summit of Mount Tabor to visit the Basilica, which commemorates the Transfiguration of Jesus before Peter, James and John. On descending Mount Tabor we drive to the River Jordan baptismal site at Yardenit where we will have an opportunity to renew our baptismal vows before travelling south along the Jordan Valley to our hotel in the oasis city of Jericho, arriving in good time to freshen up before dinner. Mount Masada Day 5, Friday 2nd March JERICHO - DEAD SEA - MASADA - HEBRON - BETHLEHEM We leave our hotel after an early breakfast to view Qarantal Monastery, built on the site of the cave where Jesus fasted for Forty Days and Nights and then to view the traditional sycamore tree that relates to the story of Zacchaeus the tax collector. We then leave Jericho and drive south along the shores of the Dead Sea to Mount Masada which we ascend to the summit by cable car to visit Herod s stepped Palace complex. It was on this flat-topped mountain that the Jewish Partisans committed mass suicide during the Jewish revolt against Rome. After a break for lunch and an opportunity to bathe in the unique mineral laden waters of the Dead Sea we drive west through the ancient Canaanite city of Arad to the city of Hebron, where if permitted we will visit the Tomb of the Patriarchs, before continuing to Bethlehem and check-in to our hotel. The Mount of Olives Day 6, Saturday 3rd March BETHLEHEM - MOUNT OLIVES - MT ZION After breakfast we make our way to the Church of the Nativity and visit the Grotto, venerated as the birthplace of Jesus and the Shepherds Fields. After a visit to a local souvenir shop we leave Bethlehem and drive to the summit of the Mount of Olives and begin our walk down Olivet visiting the Church of Dominus Flevit, the church which commemorates the site where Jesus wept over the destruction of the Temple, Pater Noster, the Church of All Nations and the Garden of Gethsemane. After a break for lunch drive to Mount Zion to visit the site of the Room of the Last Supper, The tomb of King David, and the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu and the recently excavated Roman pathway and steps that Jesus would have walked down. We bring our day to a close by visiting the Garden Tomb for Communion. Return to Bethlehem in good time for dinner. Overnight stay in Bethlehem. Bethlehem - The Cave of the Nativity
Jerusalem Old City from Mount Scopus Day 7, Sunday 4th March THE OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM We begin our day with a tour of the Old City starting with the Jewish Quarter, the Roman Cardho and Nehemiah s Wall. We then visit the Western Wall of Herod s Temple. We pass through the Temple Area (if permitted) to the Crusader Church of St. Anne overlooking the Pools of Bethesda. We then visit the Convent of the sisters of Zion built on the foundations of the Antonia Fortress, the Roman Garrison of Jerusalem. Here we visit the recently excavated first century stone pavement (Gabbatha in the gospels) to follow the Way of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa. After a break for lunch we will be free to explore the Old City. Return to Bethlehem in good time for a farewell dinner and final night stay. Jerusalem - The Archaeological Park Day 8, Monday 5th March OUR JOURNEY HOME After breakfast we leave Bethlehem and drive over to the Old City of Jerusalem to visit the Archaeological Park and the Davidson Center which will give us an insight of the Temple Mount area with the remains of streets, columns and plazas dating back to the First Temple period. The Davidson centre concentrates on the Second Temple Period, around the time of Jesus. We then drive to the Israel Museum to view the model of Jerusalem based around the time of Jesus before breaking for lunch. In the afternoon we proceed to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial museum and park, before making our way to Tel Aviv s Ben Gurion Airport and check-in for our afternoon return flight to London Luton.
