ALMA/NPM Basic Cantor Certification On Site Adjudication Test Process on Saturday September 29, 2012 The test for the Basic Cantor Certificate has three components. I. Service Music The candidate must sing and lead: two responsorial psalms: one setting chosen from List A and one chosen from List B; a setting of the Lamb of God II. Teaching Music The candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach a Gospel Acclamation from the following list: Festival Alleluia: James Chepponis Mass of God s Promise: Dan Schutte Lenten Gospel Acclamation: Mass of Light David Haas III. Musical and Liturgical Knowledge The candidate will be asked to sing back intervals played on the piano. By written exam, (Given 15 minutes prior to your adjudication time slot) the candidate will demonstrate familiarity with basic musical notation and with the Order of Mass. Application Process Eligibility All members of NPM (individual or parish) are eligible to apply for the NPM Basic Cantor Certificate. 1

Upon receipt of your application, you will be assigned a specific hour for your adjudication. You are required to stay the entire hour, as you will act as the assembly for the other participants. Please be prompt. An accompanist will be provided for the testing process. If you wish to provide your own, simply state that on the application. Each participant will be notified of the results by mail. *Exam requirements differ (available on NPM web-site) if this exam is submitted via video recording (off-site judging). 3
