Lesson Isaiah 9:6-7 For a child has been born for us, A son given to us; Authority rests upon his shoulders; And he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Hymn O Little Town of Bethlehem 1 O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by; yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light. The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. st. louis 2 For Christ is born of Mary, and, gathered all above while mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond ring love. O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth, and praises sing to God the king, and peace to all the earth! 3 O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; oh, come to us, abide with us, our Lord Immanuel! Lesson Isaiah 12:5 Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel. 4 Christmas Eve Family

Hymn Angels We Have Heard on High gloria 1 Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o er the plains, and the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains. Refrain Gloria in excelsis Deo; gloria in excelsis Deo. 2 Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? What the gladsome tidings be which inspire your heav nly song? Refrain 3 Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing; come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn king. Refrain Holy Gospel Luke 2:1-7 In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Hymn Away in a Manger away in a manger Away in a manger, no crib for his bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head; the stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay; the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. Holy Gospel (continued ) Luke 2:8-11 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. Hymn Joy to the World 1 Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive its King; let ev ry heart prepare him room and heav n and nature sing, and heav n and nature sing, and heav n, and heav n and nature sing. antioch 2 Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let all their songs employ, while fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding joy. Sermon Repeat the Sounding Joy Offering O Holy Night Pastor Sarah Breckenridge and Intern Pastor Jenny Sung Adolph Adam Sara Renner, soloist Offertory What Child Is This 6 Christmas Eve Family greensleeves 1 What child is this, who, laid to rest, on Mary s lap is sleeping? whom angels greet with anthems sweet while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the king, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary! 2 So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh; come, peasant, king, to own him. The King of kings salvation brings; let loving hearts enthrone him. Raise, raise the song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby; joy, joy, for Christ is born, the babe, the son of Mary!
