Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #31, pages 307 308 True character is not shaped from without, and put on; it radiates from within. If we wish to direct others in the path of righteousness, the principles of righteousness must be enshrined in our own hearts. Our profession of faith may proclaim the theory of religion, but it is our practical piety that holds forth the word of truth. The consistent life, the holy conversation, the unswerving integrity, the active, benevolent spirit, the godly example,--these are the mediums through which light is conveyed to the world. {DA 307.1} Question: Where is true character shaped? And, in where must the principles of righteousness be enshrined if we wish to direct others in the path of righteousness? Answer: True character is not shaped from without, and put on; it radiates from within. And, in our own hearts! It is our practical piety that holds forth the word of truth and the consistent life, the holy conversation, the unswerving integrity, the active, benevolent spirit, the godly example. Jesus had not dwelt on the specifications of the law, but He did not leave His hearers to conclude that He had come to set aside its requirements. He knew that spies stood ready to seize upon every word that might be wrested to serve their purpose. He knew the prejudice that existed in the minds of many of His hearers, and He said nothing to unsettle their faith in the religion and institutions that had been committed to them through Moses. Christ Himself had given both the moral and the ceremonial law. He did not come to destroy confidence in His own instruction. It was because of His great reverence for the law and the prophets that He sought to break through the wall of traditional requirements which hemmed in the Jews. While He set aside their false interpretations of the law, He carefully guarded His disciples against yielding up the vital truths committed to the Hebrews. {DA 307.2} Question: How did Jesus deal with the prejudice that existed in the minds of many of His hearers on the specifications of the law? Answer: He said nothing to unsettle their faith in the religion and institutions that had been committed to them through Moses. He did not come to destroy confidence in His own instruction for it was Christ Himself had given both the moral and the ceremonial law. The Pharisees prided themselves on their obedience to the law; yet they knew so little of its principles through everyday practice that to them the Saviour's words sounded like heresy. As He swept away the rubbish under which the truth had been buried, they thought He was sweeping away the truth itself. They whispered to one another that He was making light of the law. He read their thoughts, and answered them, saying,-- {DA 307.3} Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." Here Jesus refutes the charge of the Pharisees. His mission to the world is to vindicate the sacred claims of that law which they charge Him with breaking. If the law of God could have been changed or abrogated, then Christ need not have suffered the consequences of our transgression. He came to explain the relation of the law to man, and to illustrate its precepts by His own life of obedience. {DA 307.4} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#151 (10.31.15) Page 2

Question: What statement did our Saviour leave us in His Holy Words regarding the sacred claims of the law? And, how do we know that the law can t be change or abrogated? Answer: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." And, if the law of God could have been changed or abrogated, then Christ need not have suffered the consequences of our transgression. God has given us His holy precepts, because He loves mankind. To shield us from the results of transgression, He reveals the principles of righteousness. The law is an expression of the thought of God; when received in Christ, it becomes our thought. It lifts us above the power of natural desires and tendencies, above temptations that lead to sin. God desires us to be happy, and He gave us the precepts of the law that in obeying them we might have joy. When at Jesus' birth the angels sang,-- "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:14), they were declaring the principles of the law which He had come to magnify and make honorable. {DA 308.1} Question: Why did Jesus give us His holy precepts (law)? And, what is the law? Answer: Because He loves mankind as well as to shield us from the results of transgression, He reveals the principles of righteousness. And, the law is an expression of the thought of God; when received in Christ, it becomes our thought. It lifts us above the power of natural desires and tendencies, above temptations that lead to sin. Song: Let s learn our first beautiful scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Luke! Luke 2:10-14 (KJV) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this [shall be] a sign unto you; (2 xs) Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (2 xs) Luke 2 verses 10 through 14 When the law was proclaimed from Sinai, God made known to men the holiness of His character, that by contrast they might see the sinfulness of their own. The law was given to convict them of sin, and reveal their need of a Saviour. It would do this as its principles were applied to the heart by the Holy Spirit. This work it is still to do. In the life of Christ the principles of the law are made plain; and as the Holy Spirit of God touches the heart, as the light of Christ reveals to men their need of His cleansing blood and His justifying righteousness, the law is still an agent in bringing us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith. "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul." Psalm 19:7. {DA 308.2} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#151 (10.31.15) Page 3

Question: Why was the law given? And, how is the law displayed in the life of Christ? Answer: It was given to convict them of sin, and reveal their need of a Saviour. It would do this as its principles were applied to the heart by the Holy Spirit. And, the principle of the law are made plain; and as the Holy Spirit of God touches the heart. Song: Let s learn another scripture song, together dear ones, from the book of Psalm! Psalm 19:7-11 (KJV) The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD [are] right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD [is] pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD [is] clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD [are] true [and] righteous altogether. More to be desired [are they] than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: [and] in keeping of them [there is] great reward. [and] in keeping of them [there is] great reward. "Till heaven and earth pass," said Jesus, "one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." The sun shining in the heavens, the solid earth upon which you dwell, are God's witnesses that His law is changeless and eternal. Though they may pass away, the divine precepts shall endure. "It is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail." Luke 16:17. The system of types that pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God was to be abolished at His death; but the precepts of the Decalogue are as immutable as the throne of God. {DA 308.3} Question: How long shall this law be? And, and is it to be changed or destroyed? Answer: "Till heaven and earth pass," said Jesus, "one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." And, No! His law is changeless and eternal. The precepts of the Decalogue are as immutable as the throne of God. Song: Let s learn our last scripture song, together dear ones, from the book of Revelation! Revelation 5:12-13 (KJV) Margin Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and power, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, [be] unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 3-We Enroll in the School of Christ Narrated by our dear Brother Graves! All Who Are Weary of Sin Are Urged to Enroll Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. {SD 67.1} It is today that the sweet voice of mercy is falling upon your ears. It is today that the heavenly invitation comes to you. It is today that in Heaven everything says, Come. {SD 67.2} Come, for all things are now ready. Whosoever will, let him come and partake of the waters of life freely. It is now that we want childlike simplicity. We want to see everything like pride, and vanity, and folly, put away. We have the Judgment in view. Men and women will want strength that is greater than any human aid to lean upon. They must lean upon the mighty arm of Jehovah. We have in view that day when the works of men are to be tried, and tested; and we want you to get ready.... We make appeals to you to rid yourselves of the pride of the world, the pride and vanity, and folly, of life. Jesus loves you. Jesus pities you. The angelic host He sends to minister unto you. And now, while all Heaven is interested for you, will you be interested for yourselves? {SD 67.3} Some men seem afraid to take God at His word as though it would be presumption in them. They pray for the Lord to teach us and yet are afraid to credit the pledged word of God and believe we have been taught of Him. So long as we come to our heavenly Father humbly and with a spirit to be taught, willing and anxious to learn, why should we doubt God's fulfillment of His own promise?... When you have sought to know His will, your part in the operation with God is to believe that you will be led and guided and blessed in the doing of His will.... It is Christ who is guiding His people today, showing them where and how to work. {SD 67.4} Next Week We will continue with Part 6 in our lesson entitle, The Sermon on the Mount of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer. Next Sabbath: Chapter 31 The Sermon on the Mount Part 6, Sabbath November 7, 2015. Have a Blessed Sabbath dear one, and enjoy your activities. God Bless!
