Love Verses from the Psalms The Lord s Steadfast Love and Mercy Sinners are dependent on God s steadfast love and mercy. A person cannot help being a sinner. From the fall of Adam and Eve, mankind became sinners, disobedient to God. Only through God s steadfast love can man depend on a continuing relation to God. God because He loved the world gave His Son, Jesus, to be the Christ, the sacrifice for the disobedient sinning that man did. In His great mercy on man, God sent His Son, Jesus, to become a man and take on the sins of men to save mankind and redeem them to God. It is God s steadfast love and mercy that enables man to come to God for help and deliverance. Only through His steadfast love and mercy can man because he is a sinner come into church to worship and learn of God and Jesus Christ. But as for me, I will enter Your house through the abundance of Your steadfast love and mercy; I will worship toward and at Your holy temple in reverent fear and awe of You. Psalm 5:7 Sinners only enter God s house to worship through knowledge of the Lord s steadfast love and mercy. Return [to my relief], O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of Your steadfast love and mercy. Psalm 6:4 The results of sin is death and separation from God. Sinners are delivered from death because the Lord has steadfast love and mercy. Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place. Psalm 23:6 Unfailing love is steadfast love. A sinner will dwell in the house of the Lord all his or her days because the mercy and steadfast love of the Lord is sure. Remember not the sins (the lapses and frailties) of my youth or my transgressions; according to Your mercy and steadfast love remember me, for Your goodness sake, O Lord. Psalm 25:7 Sinners focus on God s steadfast love and mercy to be remembered by the Lord rather than their sins from their youth. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and steadfast love, even truth and faithfulness are they for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies. Psalm 25:10 Sinners require the Lord s steadfast love and mercy even when they are trying to be truthful and faithful to the Lord s covenant and teachings. I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy and steadfast love, because You have seen my affliction, You have taken note of my life s distresses, Psalm 31:7 Sinners need the Lord s steadfast love and mercy when in affliction and distress. His love and mercy are a cause for rejoicing. Page 2 of 5
Rise up! Come to our help, and deliver us for Your mercy s sake and because of Your steadfast love. Psalm 44:26 When a sinner needs help, he or she can call on God depending on His steadfast love and mercy. Hear and answer me, O Lord, for Your loving-kindness is sweet and comforting; according to Your plenteous tender mercy and steadfast love turn to me. Psalm 69:16 A sinner can call out to be answered by God any time because of the Lord s steadfast love and mercy. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. Psalm 91:14 The Lord never forsakes those who rely on Him. He has steadfast love for them. Because a sinner knows and understands the name of the Lord as full of steadfast love and mercy, he will be delivered and set on high. Love of the Lord s Testimonies The law convicts a person of his sin and leads him to repentance keeping him in right relationship with God. Sinners keep themselves in the love of God by loving to read and practice the testimonies, precepts and commandments of God. Everyday God s testimonies are meditated on so that a sinful man through repentance continues in Christ s relationship and stays in Gold s love. This causes love of God and God s testimonies are loved. Oh how love I Your law! It is my meditation all the day. Psalm 119:97 Sinners stay close to God all day by meditation on God s laws. The meditation holds them in the love of God. I hate the thoughts of undecided [in religion], double-minded people, but Your law do I love. Psalm 119:113 Love of the laws of God helps sinful men keep from being undecided as to how to follow God. You put away and count as dross all the wicked of the earth [for there is no true metal in them]; therefore I love Your testimonies. Psalm 119:119 Wicked people do not have true substance, only those who follow God s testimonies. Sinners escape being wicked by love of God s testimonies. Therefore I love Your commandments more than [resplendent] gold, yes, more than [perfectly] refined gold. Psalm 119:127 Sinful people cannot become less sinful by owning gold, only by following the commandment of God. Commandments are loved more the gold. Page 3 of 5
Consider how I love Your precepts; revive me and give life to me, O Lord, according to Your lovingkindness! Psalm 119:159 Precepts are the very thoughts of God. Love of precepts revives the sinner and gives him life. I hate and abhor falsehood, but Your law do I love. Psalm 119:163 Sinful people are engaged in following lies so the law is loved to keep sinners away from falsehood. Your testimonies have I kept [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them]; I love them exceeding! Psalm 119:167 Sinners practicing God s testimonies by hearing them, receiving them in their heart, loving their power, and obeying their essence cause sinful people to love God s testimonies exceedingly. The Emotions of Love Sinners love the Lord because they experience their relationship to the Lord in many ways. They experience his strength and glory. Fellowship with other people causes love of the Lord. The relationship of prayers is one of love. Confidence in the Lord even through death brings forth love. Sinners who are given understanding and freedom from sin love the Lord greatly. The Lord preserves all who have the relationship of love of Him. I love You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my strength. Psalm 18:1 Sinful people need the Lord as their strength. When the Lord is the strength the people love Him fervently and devotedly. Lord, I love the habitation of Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells. Psalm 26:8 Sinful people have no glory but the glory the Lord has. This causes love of even the Lord s habitation. O love the Lord, all you His saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully pays back him who deals haughtily. Psalm 31:23 People who sin yet are full of faith concerning the Lord are preserved by Him. Sinful people are humble and need defense against the haughty which the Lord provides. People preserved by the Lord encourage all other s who belong to the Lord to love Him. I love the Lord, because He has heard [and now hears] my voice and my supplications. Psalm 116:1 People who are heard by the Lord when in need even though they are sinners, love the Lord greatly. Precious (important and no light matter) in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (His loving ones). Psalm 116:15 When the Lord s people die either physically or spiritually it is no light matter to the Lord. The Lord sees his people through death because they love him. Sinful people need to have the Lord s help to overcome death and love the Lord greatly. Page 4 of 5
The Lord preserves all those who love Him, but all the wicked will He destroy. Psalm 145:20 People who cling to the Lord in love even though they are sinners are preserved by the Lord while the wicked people who do not love the Lord are destroyed. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the [uncompromisingly] righteous (those upright in heart and in right standing with Him). Psalm 146:8 Sinners who love the Lord because he opens their eyes to understand and lifts them up when oppressed become uncompromisingly righteous. These people the Lord loves. Page 5 of 5
