Our Lady of PEACE parish M A R S H F I E L D, Saint of the Week www.olpmarshfield.com St. Francis de Sales Born at Savoy in the Chateau de Sales in 1567, Francis studied rhetoric, philosophy, and theology at the University of Paris, followed by law at the University of Padua, but he gave up a secular career to dedicate himself to the priesthood. Ordained in 1593, he was sent to the remote Chablais region to win Calvinists back to the faith. He earned great fame as a preacher, delivering sermons in the major cities of France, and wrote popular books on religion. In 1602, he was made bishop of Geneva. He died in 1622, was declared a Doctor of the Church. He is depicted in episcopal vestments, bald, with a thick beard. St. Francis is the protector of writers and journalists. The name Francis (Frank) is of German origin, from the name of the people who settled in France; it has come to mean forthright, sincere. ** Taken from Saints A Year in Faith and Art by Rosa Giorgi Please pray for the Church in our Diocese Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere. With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord. This week we pray especially for: Samuel McCarty of St. Michael Parish, of Wausau Theology II Mundelein Seminary Prayer Intention of the Week: For all people who are in a period of preparation to join the Church this Easter, and for all those who are making a return to Jesus in the January 22, 2017 Church, may God increase in Third Sunday in Ordinary Time them the gift of joy W I

2 Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish Marshfield Inspiration from Fr. Rajan I will make you fishers of people Do you enjoy fishing? Have you ever caught a fish? Fishing is a great sport, and if you have been fishing and have caught a fish. You know that there is a great feeling of excitement when you catch a fish. One of the things that make fishing such a great sport is that it doesn t matter if you are young or old or if you are a girl or a boy- you can still be a good at fishing. What does it take to be good at catching fish? First of all, you need to be properly equipped. You can t just get a piece of string, put a hook on it, and tie it on the end of a stick and expect to catch very many fish, can you? No! if you are serious about fishing, you will make sure that you have all the right equipment- nice rod and reel plus license for fishing. Years back when I was in Custer, WI I had been to Crookston Diocese in Minnesota along with a few Indian priests for vacation. We did catch plenty of fishes and fried them with Indian spices. In the third Sunday in ordinary time we will hear Our Lord say that he will equip us, I will make you fishers of people. One day, Jesus was walking along the seashore when he saw two brothers named Peter and Andrew. Jesus knew that they made their living by fishing, so he called out to them, Follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people! Do you know what they did? They laid down their fishing nets and followed Jesus. Jesus wants you and me to fish for people too. That means that he wants us to tell others about what he has done for us and what he wants to do for them. Do you ever speak of Jesus to others? We are called to share Jesus through our lives. Let us thank God for the gift of life and for the gift of faith. May he continue to bless us. God Bless. Fr. Rajan. Incorporated into the Mystical Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism: Sunday, January 15, 2017 Whitney Rose Logan Daughter of Paul & Jessica Logan Cameron Jon Patrick Schmuhl Son of Patrick & Rachel Schmuhl Congratulations! Gift Presentation: Would you consider carrying up the offertory gifts at Mass with your family, your spouse, or even by yourself? All you need to do is let the ushers know before Mass that you are willing to do it. It would be wonderful to see new faces presenting before the Lord our earthly gifts that become the Eucharist.

This week s activity comes from Chapter 14 in Resisting Happiness: Set aside a few minutes each day to read and reflect on a passage from the Bible. Begin with Matthew, Proverbs or Psalms. Perhaps you have a favorite Bible verse that you could share with us. We each have our favorites. My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23: The Lord Is My Shepard. Pick up an activity sheet at the doors and write down your favorite Bible verse. Leave it in the basket at the Welcome Desk. I will put together a list of OLP Favorite Bible Verses for the following week. I think it is good to see what inspires others in their faith, don t you? While you are at it, talk with your children about the Bible stories that are about the children: Baby Moses in the Bulrushes, Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, etc. What can you teach them about the moral of the story? Take home an activity sheet for the children. Remember: If you would like additional copies of Resisting Happiness or Mass Journals call 859-980- 7900 or go online to dynamiccatholic.com. Don t hesitate to practice your faith in The Real Presence! There are a few hours waiting for the faithful to sign on to: 9:00 am on Mondays and 1:00 pm on Saturdays.
