Bishop McDevitt: Moral & Catholic, Challenging, Diverse 2017-2018 Dear students and parents, Spiritual Life Opportunities With great excitement I announce the retreat options that Bishop McDevitt students will have access to for the 2017-2018 school year. This year students in grades 10, 11, and 12 will have some different options to choose from to fulfill their retreat requirement. (Freshmen are required to attend their class retreat.) All students are required to attend at least one spiritual opportunity to fulfill the retreat requirement. Students must choose one retreat to fulfill their retreat requirement. Students may choose to attend more than one retreat. All students must complete the form and return it to Mr. Fair in the Spiritual Life Office. Students may change their retreat after submitting the form by seeing Mr. Fair. Some of the retreats have a fee. No one will be turned away because of inability to pay. If the fee is a problem, arrangements can be made with Mr. Fair. I welcome parents to join us as chaperones on our retreats. If you are interested in this you must fulfill the volunteer clearance checks required by the diocese. Please contact me for more information regarding this. A. Fan the Fire Youth Rally What: This is a gathering of several hundred teens from around the area. The day is packed with great music, excellent speakers, Mass, and holy hour of Eucharistic Adoration. When: Saturday, November 11 th, 2017, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Where: St. Joseph Catholic Church, York, PA Cost: $25, includes dinner. Registration Deadline: October 13 check payable to Bishop McDevitt High School * you may attend with Bishop McDevitt or your parish. B. Palm Sunday Youth Mass and Concert What: Palm Sunday Mass hundreds of teens from around the diocese. Mass is followed by a concert and dinner. When: Sunday, March 25, 2018, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Where: TBD Cost: Approx. $20, includes dinner. (pay and register in February) More information and registration will follow in February. * you may attend with Bishop McDevitt or your parish. C. Forty Hours Eucharistic Devotions ( don t worry, it is not 40 hours long) What: Eucharistic adoration with vespers, music, and a homily. Students must attend one of the sessions on one evening to fulfill the retreat requirement. Bring the program to Mr. Fair with your name on it to count for your retreat. When: Various options, see below. Most parishes hold the vespers service on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings. Where: Various options. Cost: No Cost. students attend on their own. 1. Sunday October 1 st, Steelton, Prince of Peace at 11:30 AM 3. Sunday October 1 st, Harrisburg, Holy Name of Jesus at 3:00 PM 4. Sunday October 1 st, Hershey, Saint Joan of Arc at 3:00 PM 5. Friday October 6 th, Dauphin, Saint Matthew the Apostle at 7:00 PM F. Triduum Retreat What: Attend the Liturgies that make up the Sacred Triduum: Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord s Supper, Good Friday celebration of the Passion, and Vigil Mass for Easter. Students do this retreat on their own at a parish that they choose. These liturgical celebrations are approximately 1.5 2.5 hours in length. When: Thursday, March 29 Saturday, March 31, 2018. Times vary by parish. Where: Students choose the parish. students attend on their own. * See Mr. Fair for a form to confirm your attendance. G. Pro-Life March What: A gathering of pro-life people who march to the Supreme Court in our nation s capital on the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion. When: Friday, January 19, 2018 deatails TBD Where: Washington, D.C. Cost: TBD ; students must meet the qualifications of the Pro-Life Club to attend with McDevitt. 3

H. Pro-Life Retreat What: A day retreat centered on Pro-Life themes. When: TBD Where: Details TBD Cost: TBD ; students must meet the qualifications of the Pro-Life Club J. KAIROS 14 What: A three day overnight retreat led by students and adults that encourage one to examine their current relationship with God and challenges them to grow. When: Wednesay, January 24, 3 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 4 p.m. Where: Mariawald Retreat Center, Reading, PA Cost: $225.00, All Meals included Open to: Juniors and Seniors only. Registration: Return Slip with payment to reserve a spot. ***Space is limited, reserve your spot early Sign up directly with Mr. Fair K. KAIROS 15 What: A three day overnight retreat led by students and adults that encourage one to examine their current relationship with God and challenges them to grow. When: Wednesday, March 14, 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 4 p.m. Where: Mariawald Retreat Center, Reading, PA Cost: $225.00, All Meals included Open to: Juniors and Seniors only. Registration: Return slip with payment to reserve a spot. ***Space is limited, reserve your spot early Sign up directly with Mr. Fair L. Visit the Seminary Day What: Young men from diocesan high schools travel to Mount Saint Mary s Seminary to learn about the seminary formation program and meet the seminarians from the Diocese of Harrisburg. When: Wednesday, November 8, 2017, Leave school at 8:15 and return at approximately 2:45 PM Where: Mount St. Mary s Seminary Cost: No Cost Open to: Junior and Senior boys only. Sign up with Mr. Fair. M. Football team day of reflection*** Please note this event already occurred. Only sign up for this if you attended with the football team. What: Reflection given to the Football team Open to: Members of the football team who were present for the retreat day 4

N. Quo Vadis Days What: A discernment retreat for young men sponsored by the Diocese of Harrisburg Office of Vocations. It is five days of prayer, fellowship, recreation, and discussions. There will be many priests, seminarians, and other young men gathered for the retreat. When: TBD: 5 days in June Where: Mount Saint Mary s College Cost: Usually free due to anonymous donors. Open to: Boys in all grade levels More information and registration will follow in the spring. M. Fiat Days What: Fiat Days is a three day retreat for young Catholic Women who want to learn more about consecrated life and how to deepen their life of faith. When: TBD: 3 days toward the end of June Where: Mount Saint Mary s College Cost: Usually free due to anonymous donors. Open to: Girls in all grade levels More information and registration will follow in the spring. ***Attending the following retreats with a parish youth group will fulfill your retreat requirement: Fan the Fire Youth Rally, Palm Sunday Youth Mass and Rally, Steubenville Youth Rally, and Net Ministries retreats.
