A New Heaven and A New Earth Part 37 1

Gen 8:4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. 9:2-3 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. 2

1. A new heaven & earth Rev 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Is 65:17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me, says the Lord, What happened to the first ones? Heb 1:10-12 You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. 11 They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; 12 Like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. Lk 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 2 Pet 3:7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 3

Rev 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 2 Pet 3:10,12-13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Why were they destroyed? Gen 3:17-18 Then to Adam He said, Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it : Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. 6:7 So the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them. 4

Gen 19:24-25 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. Job 15:15 If God puts no trust in His saints, and the heavens are not pure in His sight, Is 24:5-6 The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left. Ps 102:25-26 Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. 26 They will perish, but You will endure; yes, they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will change them, and they will be changed. 5

New=Kainos: not just another, but one different, fresh, never seen before No sea: the present earth sustains life that is water-based, but in eternity life will be sustained by the spirit (Rev 22:1,17 water of life) 6

2. A New Jerusalem Rev 21:2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. There are 3 Jerusalems mentioned in Scripture: the historic Jerusalem, the millennial Jerusalem, & the eternal Jerusalem The New Jerusalem is the capitol of the new earth: Heb 12:22-23 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, Rev 21:10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 7

It is built by Jesus: Heb 11:10,16 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. Jn 14:2 In My Father s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3. Living with God literally Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 8

God has always wanted to dwell with man: 2 Cor 6:16 For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Gen 3:8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9

Heaven is about the person & presence of God: Ps 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but You? upon earth that I desire besides You. And there is none We will see Him: Mt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Jn 17:24 Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 1 Cor 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 1 Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Jn 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 10

This means great changes will have occurred: Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 1 Tim 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Tim 6:16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen. What makes heaven heavenly 11

1. Things not there Rev 21:4a And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. No tears: Rev 7:17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Is 25:8 He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; the rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; for the Lord has spoken. No death: 1 Cor 15:54-57 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 12

Heb 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Rev 20:14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. No sorrow or crying: Is 53:3-4 He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. No pain: Is 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. 13

2. Things new there Rev 21:4b-5a for the former things have passed away. 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. 2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 3. Things not there Rev 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. 21:27a But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, 22:15 But outside aredogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. 14

4. Those now there Rev 21:7,27b He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 27 but only those who are written in the Lamb s Book of Life. 2 Cor 5:6,8 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 14:13 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them. 5. These things are true Rev 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words are true and faithful. John, like all Bible authors, simply writes what he sees & hears. Rev 3:14 And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: Lk 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 15

6. It is done Rev 21:6a And He said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Jn 19:30 It is finished 1 Cor 15:24-28 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For He has put all things under His feet. But when He says all things are put under Him, it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. Rev 1:8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, whoisandwhowasandwhoistocome, the Almighty. Is 44:6 I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God. 48:12 I am He, I am the First, I am also the Last. Rev 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. 16

7. The thirsty Rev 21:6b I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. Ps 42:1-2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? Is 55:1 Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Jn 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. 7:37-38 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let him who hears say, Come! And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. 7:17 or the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. 17
