Juan Diego was on his way to Mass on December 9, 1531 when he heard music that sounded like beautiful bird songs. He moved up Tepayac Hill toward the sound and found a radiant apparition of the Virgin Mary on a former site of an Aztec Temple. Our Lady requested that Juan Diego ask the Bishop to build a new Temple at the site in order that she will have a place to hear petitions. After several unsuccessful attempts to convince the Bishop, Juan Diego asked Our Lady for a sign. She instructs him to climb to the top of Tepeyac Hill and pick the flowers he found growing there. Flowers would not usually grow at that time of year but Juan Diego found roses which he gathered in his tilma (a simple cloth used as clothing) and went to see the Bishop. Once arriving, he opened his tilma to release the roses and discovered an image of Our Lady painted on the cloth. The Bishop agreed to build the temple which still exists just outside of Mexico City. There was a Motion to hire an architect with a vote of 8 Yes and 1 No. Of the three companies interviewed, a second Motion was to hire HMA Architects, St. Cloud with a vote of 9 Yes, 0 No. Just the drawings alone will cost about $6,000 max. with this company. This completes step 6 of the 17 steps on the Diocesan renovation Checklist. Now we wait for the architect to give us the drawing. The family of Roger Schmidt wants to thank Fr. It is a tree branch decorated with symbols representing the stories of people in Jesus' family tree. In Isaiah 11:1 we read, "A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." Jesse was the father of David, Israel's greatest king. And it was from David's lineage that Jesus came. That's where the idea of using a Jesse Tree to celebrate Advent came from.
