The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres About us Founded in 1959 by Swami Vishnudevananda, we are a non-profit organization whose purpose is to share the teachings of Yoga and Vedanta as a means of achieving physical, mental and spiritual well-being and attaining self-realization. The Centre in Toronto was established in 1962 and is part of The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres. Swami Sivananda (1887-1963) Our Teachers One of the great sages of modern times, Swami Sivananda is the inspiration behind our organization. His aim in life was the dissemination of spiritual knowledge. His motto was: Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize. Swami Vishnudevananda (1927-1993) Founder of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, Swami Vishnudevananda was a world authority on Hatha and Raja Yoga. Swamiji was also known as the Flying Swami for the different peace missions he pursued around the world. His motto was: Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness Yoga shows the way. Karma Yoga We are all volunteers: Teachers, staff and helpers. All of our teachers have completed the Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Course, recognized by the Yoga Alliance, and have a minimum certification of RYT-200. All teachers, helpers and full-time staff members in the organization are working on a volunteer basis. In the Bhakti Yoga tradition, we practice true, unconditional love towards the divine and learn how to direct it towards all living beings. Mastery of ego, compassion for all beings, expansion of the heart to include all the living and non-living beings in its fold are the objectives of Bhakti Yoga. In this workshop, we learn about unconditional love, approaches to Bhakti Yoga and the nine limbs of the Bhakti Yoga and how to practice Bhakti Yoga in our daily lives. Bhagavad Gita Study Group Sun 11, 18, 25 Oct, 1, 8 Nov 4:30 6 pm The Bhagavad Gita is one of the core scriptures of Yoga. It is a conversation between Pandava Prince Arjuna and his teacher Krishna on a variety of philosophical concepts.
