New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, Today s readings deal with situations in which Christians have a duty to confront one another. To be honest with you, there is nothing that makes me more uncomfortable than confrontation! Yet, if I m doing my job well as an evangelist, the opportunity for fraternal correction will inevitably occur. All of us who are baptized into Christ s threefold office of priest, prophet, and king, have the duty to proclaim the truths of our faith to souls entrusted to our care. This means that none of us are off the hook when it comes to warning our loved ones, coworkers, and friends about sinful behaviors that are hurting their relationship with God. Since we live in a culture that places a high value on keeping the peace and is hypersensitive towards judgey people, I thought I d outline a few helpful principles to help us understand what fraternal correction is and what it is not: Fraternal correction is not judgment. Although it is our duty to protect our loved ones from anything that might hinder their relationship with God, it is NOT our duty to judge. That job is reserved for God alone. Fraternal correction is motivated by love. Fraternal correction can be uncomfortable, but Jesus taught us to lay down our life for our friends. We must love someone enough to lay down our need to be liked so that they can walk in the fullness of Christ s light. Fraternal correction involves self-examination. To protect ourselves from self-righteous judgment, we must continually work on and root out sin in our own life. That way, when we offer admonition, we do so in a spirit of solidarity instead of superiority. We recognize that we are a sinner helping another sinner on the narrow road to salvation. We must ultimately remember Jesus promise For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Next time you have a tough conversation looming, remember that Jesus is present to you with His grace, tender love and mercy. ~Kristen Molitor This Week s Events Sunday, September 10th 11:30 a.m. Baptismal Class at the Central Office Monday, September 11 All Saints-St. Hedwig s Adoration Immaculate Conception 7:00-8:30 p.m. Women s Prayer Group Tuesday, September 12 On the Road Mass at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 13 All Saints-St. Hedwig s Thursday, September 14 All Saints-St. Mary s 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. All Cluster Bible Study Saturday, September 16 St. Stanislaus Adoration All Saints-St. Mary s 8:00 a.m. Men s Prayer Group Eucaristic Adoration Every Monday All Saints-St. Hedwig s 8:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Every Saturday St. Stanislaus Kostka 6:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. St. Stanislaus has hours of prayer available for Adoration.
