She takes a large risk in going to the harvest field of a wealthy landowner, Boaz, to see if she can talk him into letting her get some leftovers from his harvest. Boaz is extraordinarily kind (hesed) to Ruth and extends privileges to her that are totally unexpected. Because of his grace and kindness, Naomi and Ruth no longer have to worry about survival. Jesus taught that everyone who had been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. (Luke 12:48) NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC The stirring finale of Book of Ruth will be our destination Included will be real estate deals, proposals, marriages, the exchanging of sandals, the birth of babies, happy grandmothers and the destiny of all God s people. If you have lost a loved one and need time to process and grieve, consider joining our Grief Support Group called GriefShare. We hope that this will be a place for group members to share their stories and process their grief in a safe environment. There are 13 Wednesday sessions January 25-April 19, from 7-8:30pm in room 204. Each session includes a video seminar, encouraging information-packed videos featuring leading grief recovery experts; small group discussion about the weekly video content; and journaling and personal study exercises that reinforce the weekly discussion topics. Journey to the Center of the Church is a three-week class to help prepare you for membership at Elmhurst CRC. Classes will be held Thursday evenings, February 2, 9, and 16, from 6:30-8:30 pm. The Single Mothers Support Group (SHE) is honored to have Jon Gager from Moody Radio at our meeting on February 12 at 12:15 pm. His topic is "Let Lessons of the Past Pave the Way to a Better Future." He is the author of the book If I Could Do It Over Again. Books will be available for anyone to purchase on the day of the meeting. For the 9 am service we are looking for a once a month small group leader for the 1st/2nd grade group and a once a month small group leader for the 3rd-5th grade group. For the 10:30 am service we are looking for a once a month small group leader for the 2nd/3rd grade boys group, as well as a one-on-one buddy for a preschool student with special needs. This fundraiser helps to support CareNet services, which are are offered free of charge to women and men in need of pregnancy tests, counseling, ultrasounds, material goods such as diapers, as well as provide opportunities for emotional and spiritual healing after a previous abortion. COMMUNITY Over 65 cellists from the Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki School will be performing an hour of cello music on February 5 at 2 p.m. at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. The performers range in age from 4-18 and are under the direction of Sally Gross and Alex Revoal. The concert is free and open to the public. Timothy Christian Schools (188 W. Butterfield Rd. Elmhurst, IL) will be hosting an Open House on February 12 at 2 pm. All families with students from Preschool through 12th grade are invited.
