As youth group member, we wish to have more active role this year and even carry out some projects that will help the younger generation in understanding importance of our culture and identity. We all must put a lot of effort to keep the Vedic Flag flying High. Please email article to : ravideo3@gmail.com Ravneel Deo Editor www.aryasamaj queensland.com Yuva Dal (Youth Group) members Ravneel & Soneel donating food items to Salvation Army for Christmas. APSQ contributes to Salvation Army for Christmas donation Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Qld (APSQ) members got together and donated food items to the Salvos who in turn will provide assistance to the unfortunate and needy families. This initiative was taken by the Arya Samaj members by considering the less fortunate ones, who may be needing such assistance to fulfil their festive season wish. The members provided food items and it was collected and delivered to Salvation Army centre in Taigum Northside in Brisbane. What we have shared with others, the needy, poor and downtrodden gives lasting happiness. The Sabha will in future continue to take active part in sharing and providing help and available resources to the wider community. The President of the Sabha Mr Jitendra Deo thanked all the members for this noble cause and pointed that by undertaking this sort of activities our communities can also integrate with wider society. According to The VEDAS it is mankind's Dharma (our duty) to help others. Dharma means duties and essential characteristics, without which a thing cannot retain its very own existence. Religion may be a personal affair owing its allegiance to personal beliefs and convictions of a person, but Dharma is an universal affair. Dharma makes people broad minded and as such binds and holds them together. Righteous people, adhering to VEDAS, therefore, consider the whole world as one family. VEDAS expect every human being to be humane in true sense and thus advocate "humanism" as the Dharma of the entire humanity. Donations are an integral part of Religion. Since time immemorial both the terms 'Donations' and 'Religion' have been used together, so much so that they have become synonymous to each other. Be human and humanise others, this is the message of VEDAS since its eternity. The Sabha wishes all the readers, members, and well wishers a Happy and Prosperous 2013. Let us all move forward with Dharma and consider the whole world as one family. There is definitely optimism as we look to the year ahead and we will emerge stronger and more resilient than ever. May GOD bless you all.

VISION OF ARYA SAMAJ IN THE 21ST. CENTURY Arya Samaj is a sleeping giant and, it has been in a state of slumber for a long time. It is time it woke up in order to play its proper role on the world stage in the 21st century. This is the age of electronic communication and this technology is developing rapidly. This is the age when spirituality is going to take centre stage. A few weeks ago the International Monetary Fund - I M F invited scholars from all religious denominations to study the life style of people in almost all countries of the world in relation to spirituality. A Hindu is also a member of this study group. You are right in thinking that he is not from Arya Samaj and, how could he be? Arya Samaj is not on the world map. Buddhists, Hare Krishna, Vedanta and even Osho have made places for themselves. Where has Arya Samaj failed? I would say, in two major areas. One, Public Relations and secondly by sticking to the past glories. Yes, our past has been superlatively glorious but that was the ancient past - almost pre-historic. Our very survival in the 21st century will be at stake if we do not come out of this cocoon. We will have to face changes without compromising our principles. We will have to sharpen our image and, we will have to engage in aggressive Public Relations exercise in order to showcase our profile. The best arena for all this is MAHARISHI VYAS BHOOMI - North America. American soil, it appears, is the most fertile land for the propagation of eastern philosophy. Sarvadeshak Pratinidhi Sabha, though a resourceful body doesn t have the will to exercise its role and give direction to the movement. Moreover, they are not alive to the needs of Arya Samaj's in foreign countries perhaps for want of a vision. I am of the firm opinion that Arya Pratinidhi Sabha North America should take it upon itself to project itself as a guiding stars for Paar Deshiyee Arya samajes. We will have to have a unified front in order to forge ahead. We will have to pool our resources in order to translate Rishi s mission into action. Fortunately, we have managed to acquire a number of properties, which I think, should induce responsibility in the society. Now that we have our fixed abode, we need to utilize the facilities to the best of our needs. The foremost demand of the 21st century is that Arya Samaj becomes a high - tech society. The other day my attention was drawn to an article published in a local weekly, criticizing Arya Samaj and Mahrishi Daya Nanda and his works, especially Satyarath Prakash. The article was written by Osho - Bhagwan Rajnish, and was circulated in the cyber space ( that is what the editor of the weekly said that he had picked it from). A latest addition to the Saturday TV religious programmes in Toronto, Canada is Christ in Vedas. Since the knowledge of Vedas is being widely acknowledged as true knowledge, various denominations are trying to hijack this true source of knowledge. No doubt, Internet is a powerful medium of propaganda and is now readily available through cable at our television sets at home. Sh. Bhuvnesh Khosla deserves a pat on his back by providing an Internet page for Arya Samaj, but it requires more aggressive approach and more meaningful material relevant to the new - look Arya Samaj - Arya Samaj of the 21st century. Print media and television should be extensively used to propagate the message of the Rishi. Based on my broadcasting experience I can firmly state that television programmes, if produced professionally, can easily fetch sponsors. This article adapted from Arya Samaj Canada. Members of the Yuva Dal (Youth Group) performed the Yajna and Australian National Anthem was sung by them and people in the audience. The President of the Yuva Dal Arunesh Prasad welcomed all present and gave a brief speech about Australia Day. Then there were Bhajans by Keshav, Kunal, Soneel and I. Keshav, Kunal, and I presented speeches about Australia Day. Mr. Keshav Chand Secretary of Yuva Dal addressed the gathering and stressed on the significance of Australia day as we come together as a nation to celebrate what s great about Australia and being Australians, it is a day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation. The speeches presented by Kunal and I covered the history of the early settlers from England. We also talked about the celebrations that happen around Australia. Something that most Australian love about Australia Day is its parties but it isn't all about the parties ( which are great) but the getting together of a nation (as said by Keshav ). The Havan ended and everyone received refreshments then as the event came to a close discussion came about the future of the Yuva Dal. The Yuva Dal hopes to perform in Clean-up Australia Day but to a clash of events has been set on hold as more discussion is required. I hope that all the other Samajs can participate in this event across Australia. The Australia Day event went well with a lot of speeches and plenty of Bhajans.

The Vedas Backbone of Our Culture by: Swami (Dr.) Satya Prakash Saraswati (1905-1995) The Vedas constitute the back-bone of our entire culture and development through the millennia not only in India but also abroad. For most of us, they constitute the first literature that dawned on us at the earliest time of man's appearance on this globe. In India, we regard them as the revealed knowledge. What the effulgent sun is to animate and inanimate activity on the terrestrial earth, the Vedic enlightenment is to the prestigious life of man on this planet for the majority of humanity. Man with his most highly evolved physico-psychic complex is a gem in our divine creation, much above the animal level. For his fulfillment, the necessary code of conduct is incorporated in the Vedic texts. It is the most precious gift to humanity from our benign Creator and Lord. Origin of Language We are told that the divine revelation came to man at a time when the world was in its infancy. I shall not take you to primitive man and his group as conceived by an evolutionist of the modern age a society which was least conducive for the type of revelation we received from the divine source. Undoubtedly, the primitive and mentally unevolved man could have been least receptive to the highest type of enlightenment. I shall not refer you to the history or the geography of the event of revelation, for the time-space reckoning must have started very long ago in our history. I am talking of days when man had no language, though he had a complete set of vocal and hearing organs. Think of the days when man had existed without a vocabulary; he had not yet called the sun the sun, the moon the moon, and the earth the earth. How surprising it was that he was flourishing in surroundings to which he had not yet given names. He was moving, sitting, sleeping, eating and drinking but he had no terminology for these functions. His gesture had no words. He was enjoying colourful Nature; he had no terms for white, red, pink, blue, green or black. In the midst of such a state of affairs now inconceivable, the divine knowledge was revealed to him through exceptional personalities with high receptivity, stupendous memory and superb understanding. The earliest contribution of men of this group was to assign names to the objects of surroundings in the most general terms. The language of the divine Rig Ved itself has an astonishing stock of about 35,000 words in 10,000 verses with immense intrinsic potentiality for coining new terms. With the revealed Vedas starts the concept of human language in terms of which man not only talked with contemporary man, but also continued his link with posterity. Without having an instinct to communicate to posterity, man could not have made any history, culture, philosophy, science and technology. This communication could have been possible only through a language, as divine as Creation. Philosophy or science assumes the pre-existence of orderliness in Creation, the Rita, another name for eternal consistency. According to a theistic concept, there is a concomitant relationship between the Veda, Creation and science. A theist is one who submits or surrenders himself to the Divine Creator, the Divine Language (WORD) and the Divine Creation the three realities. Thousands of years have passed since the divine knowledge was first revealed to a small group of seers (the four Samhitas to the first four Agni, Vayu, Aditya and Angiras, so named traditionally). There was another group of seers with stupendous memory, who passed on this knowledge to the successive generations. The art of script and writing was invented and developed at a much later stage. Yuva Dal Column Hinduism is rich in symbolism. One such symbol is greeting commonly used in India Namaste. It is pronounced as Na-ma-stay where the a of Na and Ma are pronounced as the a in above. The gesture of Namaste is performed by placing both the palms together in front of our heart and slightly bowing the head. It is considered as a humble greeting straight from the heart. Interestingly, the word nama has parallels in other ancient languages including Greek, Latin, Old Saxon and German, all of which have the general sense of obeisance, homage and veneration. Namaste is a composite of Sanskrit words: Namah and Te. Namah means to bow while te means you. So, the word means I bow to you. The word Namah itself can be broken down into Na which means No and Mah which represents I. It thus means not mine. It has a spiritual significance of negating or reducing one s ego in the presence of another. It also implies that there is nothing that the individual soul can claim as its own. Hindu people greet each other by saying Namaste and also offer the same obeisance when greeting others. Thus they offer respect to the soul within and also to the omnipresent God. Looking at the importance of preserving our Hindi language and Indian culture it was thought to devote our Satsangh totally to this significant theme. It must be noted that Australian Government multicultural policy also allows those who choose to call Australia home the right to practice and share in their cultural traditions and languages. Mr Nand who himself had been actively engaged in promoting a better understanding of Indian culture by being a Hindi teacher and scholar. He was a well known Radio announcer in Fiji. He was pleased to see that Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Qld is trying its best in maintaining the Indian culture and identity by conducting cultural activities, promoting the code of VEDIC philosophy, Hindi, Yoga, music and involving the youth in all the activities. The programme started with Yajna, and some Vedic Bhajans were sung by the Youth group members. The activities that relate to the Bharitya Sanskriti is performed so it is active and ultimately passed on to the future generation". Mr Nand was introduced to the gathering by Ms Nalini. Mr Nand delivered a very articulate speech in Hindi on Importance of preserving our Hindi language and Indian culture. Hindi language our mother tongue is the medium through which one sustained one's Indian culture. Language and culture cannot be separated as language is the carrier of culture. Hindi language and Indian culture are true reflections of our identity. Mr Nand emphasized that our culture is very important and we should take pride in it and the young people of today should be encouraged to embrace their language and culture. The MC was Sabha Secretary Mr Hari Chand, and Sabha Vice President Mr Rajesh Chand moved vote of thanks. The programme finished with lunch and misthaan provided by Mr Rajesh & Mrs Sakuntala Chand Family.

Vedas and its knowledge For any one person to study and understand Vedas will appear to be physically an impossible mission. Starting from the ancient Rishis themselves to MaxMuller in modern times this fact is well acknowledged. Vedas offer a vast scholastic area of enquiry and call for good expertise and general awareness in social, political, physical sciences and technology. Interest and knowledge in at least one specific scientific/technological discipline is necessary, for any individual to attempt the study, to explore scientific and technological knowledge from Vedas. Response from educated scientific community due to lack of interest in our heritage for exploration of Vedas is practically nonexistent. It needs a conviction & dedication in Vedas with self motivation. Experts in the management field, Social, and environmental sustainability areas have been more active in discovering relevance of Vedic Wisdom to modern times. The Vedas give the most modern up-to-date knowledge of sciences with linkages to agriculture, nutrition and ecology. Vedic guidance has also been the base on which we are making use of modern veterinary science with spectacular success. Vedas give very specific guidance for the modern Commercial Market driven society how the interests of an ordinary individual by can be protected by Consumer education, Environmental Protection, Nutrition and Health for every body and Crimes against society could be dealt with in a Democratic modern state. Some examples on which insight from Vedas can be attempted is given here. The idea is only to invoke the interest of the modern young scholars to develop interest in study of Vedas. Vedas are not to be considered as mere religious books of Hindus, but a book of knowledge for entire human society. On administrative hierarchical planning, Consumer education and protection, significance of transparency and right to information, Conflict resolution by democratic negotiations, importance of articulation and good speaking ability, positive and constructive approaches, specific insights are available. Similarly on human nutrition system, cholesterol and heart circulation system, probiotic and microbiology, linkage of nutrition to health and intellect, sustainable organic agriculture, entomology, Vitamin/hormone D, photosynthesis, disease prevention, poverty alleviation and veterinary science of cow's animal husbandry, unambiguous guidance is found. On social topics like family planning, pregnant mother and girl child care, marital bliss, abortions and sex crimes, self motivation and positive contribution to society by inclusive minds, character building in society, are the kind of subjects that Vedas talk about. It has been a busy month for members of Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Queensland as Arya parv activities were prevalent in March. Dayanand Bodh Diwas was celebrated at Finnish Hall on March 3rd. This event marked the day when Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati was enlightened and he went for search of truth. When he was a teenager, he wanted to find the true God. This led him to begin a personal quest, lasting nearly three decades, for knowledge revealing the true nature of god. Swamiji was founder of Arya Samaj movement, and his teachings were based on VEDAS, the oldest Hindu Scriptures in the world today. Mr Sukarm Singh addressed the audience on Dayanand Bodh Diwas, and he spoke on Swamiji's life and how he started Arya Samaj movement. After observing a prayer meeting with his parents, he decided to find the true God. When he did not get answers from his parents he left his home, wondering Northern part of India to find a Guru who could answer his questions. He found Guru Swami Virjanand at Mathura, where he gained his knowledge and found most of his answers.after spending few years in Ashram of Guru Virjanand, Mool Shankar became Swami Dayanand Sarawati. Swamiji was instrumental in transforming India to modern India, we see today.his major achievments included spread of true knowledge of VEDAS, fighting for discrimination against women and educating them, speaking against the caste system and evil practices, revival of hindi and sanskrit and bringing forward the spirit of nationalism and independence. Swamiji authored many books and Sanskar Vidhi,Satyarth Prakash,Rigveda Bhashya and Yajurveda Bhashya are among the many. The programme included Yajna, Bhajans and refreshments. The Havan Yaj was sponsored by Dr Sukhvir Singh Family. The Sabha also celebrated Holi -Festival of colours at Finnish Hall on March 17th. Holi is a major Hindu festival that welcomes the spring. Holi celebrates the new life and energy of the new season. Holi is preceded by harvesting of a variety of crops and, therefore, it gives the farmers and their families a genuine springboard to go in for real merriment.when the barns of the farmers are full they have every reason to enjoy the fruits of their hard labour. The fresh grain is offered as ``aahuti` in the havan. The function started with Yajna, and Pandita Usha Rai highlighted about the significance of Holi. Holi songs, also called "Chautals" were sung by Master Lalta Prasad, and members from community. The Chautal's entertained the audience and event was full of fun. The members also enjoyed playing with colours and powder. The programme concluded with refreshments and "Holi sweets".

SIX FREE DOCTORS BY SHRI VIJAY ARYA JI Ever heard of SIX FREE DOCTORS these are : 1. SUNLIGHT: The sun says, spend a little time with me while reading, exercising, listening to music, meditating, even chatting up with friends - do it with me! Just you and me, because I am your BEST friend. Physically and metaphorically Sunlight is beneficial to all. Giving light, its best, to everyone, regardless of race, caste, creed or colour. 2. WATER: 6-8 glasses of water in a day, replenishes all the liquids of the body. And H2O is oxygen to every cell in the body. Our body thrives on fresh water. It is the greatest detoxifying agent ever produced. And it is FREE! 3. AIR: Your Prana Shakti - Life breath! Just being aware of your breathing for a little while, invigorates every cell in the body. PRANAYAM ( deep breathing ) - is a must, to exhale all carbon and take in all oxygen, in a clean and open environment. It is a luxury today to breathe fresh air. Do not neglect this. Holding a breath and then releasing it, clears all the diseases in the body. 4. DIET: After consuming 3 of the 5 natures elements (Ether, Water, Air, Earth & Fire) get to the natures produce. Vegetables, fruits, grains. The Lord has provided plenty of choice. The amount of cleansing the fruits, vegetables, grains does to the system is amazing! The enzymes, nutrients thus produced protect every cell in the body. Proteins and all other requirements of the human body are present in fruits, vegetables, lentils milk, yogurt etc too. We are basically herbivores and not carnivores, not omnivores- by nature. Vegetarianism is the key to good health and happiness. By involving oneself in the cycle of inflicting injury, pain and death, even indirectly by eating other creatures and animals, one must in the future experience in equal measure the suffering caused. Ahinsa, the law of non-injury, is our first duty in fulfilling religious obligations to GOD only then one will find happiness and Shanti. 5. EXERCISE: How can anything be consumed without the corresponding arrangement to digest the same? The body must move. Walking can be a good form of exercise! But stretching the body is very essential. Starting from bed, when waking up and then being physically vibrant through the day. Household work is NOT an exercise, it s a chore! Exercise in a proper state of mind and not under stress or duress. Relaxation is the reason for exercising a healthy state of mind. Exercise alone and not rushing! 6. REST: Last but not the least the 6th DOCTOR is REST! None of the above is possible without enough sleep, relaxation and rest from meeting a deadline! Rest is the most important factor which gives impetus to all other 5! So do not neglect it. Resting with beautiful, positive and creative thoughts is of course always recommended. If you have negative thoughts, keep slogging, so you do not have the time to nurture them. When resting have all the positive thoughts, nourishing thoughts, the foremost being Thanksgiving to the ALMIGHTY GOD Lord, followed by love and compassion towards all the relationships you encounter. The gifts were then presented to mothers who were present, gifts were provided by the Sabha. Mr Sukarm Singh presented a lecture about mother, and it was very informative. The programme was made more lively, after Ashwin Chand led the members into "Antakashri". Members showed their talent, and actively took part. The Vedic culture trains every man to look upon all women as forms of the one Divine Mother. The mother is more worthy of reverence than father or teacher according to our scriptures. According to Manu Smriti on the point of view of reverence, a teacher is ten fold superior to a mere lecturer, a father is a hundred fold superior to a teacher, and a mother is a thousand fold superior to a father. Women are the backbone or bedrock that sustain dharma and national strength, peace and prosperity. Manu declares: "The woman who always does good, who is efficient in work, sweet in speech, devoted to her duty and service of mankind, is really no human being but a goddess." Our scriptures say Matra devo bhava - treat your mother as a goddess. Mothers are the greatest conservers of our culture. They adhere to the household ritual, lullabies and popular poetries. A definite philosophy of life is bound up with these. By the very quality of their being, mothers are the missionaries of civilization. With their immense capacity for self-sacrifice they are the unquestioned leaders of mankind. The dinner was served, and after dinner Musical Chair was played. Mothers had a good time with this as well.

Is SOUL part of the Almighty GOD. What do VEDAS say? According to the Vedas the world consists of three basic entities, God soul and matter. Everything in this world is recognised by their gun (qualities), karma (actions) and swabhau (personality). For two things to become one they must have same gun, karma and swabhau. For example sugar will mix with sugar and become one because they have the same gun, karma and swabhau. But salt and sugar will never mix and be one because their gun, karma and swabhau are different. Similarly Gundh, karma and swabhau of God is different from the soul. Soul can never be ansh of God. Say for example if one takes one grain (ansh) of sugar from the whole bag, the gundh, karm swabhau of that grain as same as in the whole bag of sugar. For the soul to be ansh of God it must have the same gundh, karma swabhau as God. Now lets see the difference between gundh, karma and swabhau of God and soul. God has no limit, souls have a limit. God is source of all knowledge and joy. The souls depend on God for their knowledge and joy. God creates this universe for sake of the souls and the souls use the necessary things for their life. God does not take physical bodies. He does not need the aid of the physical organs, like eyes, hands etc. for seeing and doing. The souls function with the aid of these organs through the cycle of birth and death. The life after death is for the souls and not for God. God sees over the actions of the souls during their life cycles. Whatever good or bad actions the souls do, they are themselves responsible for it. Their present is decided by their entire past and their future would depend on their present actions. God gives the fruits of the good or the bad deeds while the souls suffer or enjoy them. God is just and merciful and therefore, Generous. He decides what would be most useful for the souls and while doing so He is never influenced by anyone. God is never liberated while the souls seek their liberation through their efforts. God is above sins and mistakes. It is the soul that has wickedness and goodness. In order to raise the goodness to the maximum and bring down the wickedness, the souls are awarded favourably for their good deeds and punished for their bad deeds. Another one if after death the souls unite with God then the question is who is going to get the results of all the actions that one has done in his or her life time. There has to be many lives to get the results of all the actions. So these are few differences between God and the souls. So since they have different gundh, karma and swabhau, the soul cannot be the ansh of God.( Satyarth Prakash chapter nine.) There are three things that are eternal in the universe. These have never been created nor will they ever be destroyed.(god, soul, matter) GOD- There is only one GOD. He is the Creator, Sustainer and destroyer of the universe. He exists, is conscious and is blissful. GOD has no shape or size and is present everywhere and watches and advises us in our souls at all times. He punishes us for our bad deeds and rewards us for our good deeds. SOUL- soul is a living agent within us and is separate entity from GOD. There are many souls and souls are not part of GOD they are not ansh of GOD. Souls exist and are conscious. Souls enjoy the fruits of their good deeds and suffer as a result of their bad deeds. MATTER- matter is the material out of which GOD evolves this universe. Matter exists and is never destroyed. It has no life in it. Being devoid of life and thus intelligence, matter can neither make nor unmake itself, but is always made or unmade by a conscious intelligent being. Havan Yajna Dates and Venue. Human Rights and Vedas Human rights today, in general, include life, liberty, equality and dignity. These key words today have formed constitution of most countries. The law is developed along this and machinery created for its day to day of running the countries. The roots of these key words are in VEDAS. The directions given in VEDAS in relation to these key words are much ahead of the present times. If only VEDAS were studied by world organisations properly and practised accordingly, the worlds situation in regards to dignity and respect to human values would have been much better. Life: Life is the most precious gift from God. According to VEDAS books of life guiding human beings how to live in this world and attain peaceful life on earth. VEDAS state that life is meant for purposeful life where humans have goals of righteousness in thoughts, words, deeds, economic prosperity, fulfilment of worldly desires and attaining long lasting bliss. The life is action oriented and one should inspire to live for 100 years. This 100 years should be actioned as always doing righteous work, activities for personnel, society and nation development. Living should be healthy, disciplined and satisfied, free from greed, hatred, tensions and fears. VEDAS clearly directs that nobody has right to cut short the given span of life, either by killing themselves or others. Violence of any sort including animal cruelty is prohibited. Some of the permitted killings are in case of fighting with evil practice, evil forces, and war against enemies of society. Rigveda and Atharvaveda mention seven acts that are considered greatest sin in this world. These are theft, prostitution, killing of wise people, taking drugs, abortion, lying, and repeating bad habits. The VEDAS give prominence (importance) to development of souls in humans beings with purity and excellence of mind, intellect, realization and self-confidence. VEDAS require all human beings to be guided by true knowledge and wisdom, so they achieve excellence in all respects. Excellence is necessary for preservation and protection of human values and dignity as human being. I found this article interesting and thought of sharing. With time, the salt accumulates and this needs to undergo cleaning treatments and how are we going to overcome this? It is very easy, first take a bunch of parsley and wash it clean Then cut it in small pieces and put it in a pot and pour clean water and boil it for ten minutes and let it cool down and then filter it and pour in a clean bottle and keep it inside refrigerator to cool. Drink one glass daily and you will notice all salt and other accumulated poison coming out of your kidney by urination also you will be able to notice the difference which you never felt before. Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Qld (APSQ) members and well wishers got together and donated funds to provide assistance to the disadvantaged. This initiative was taken by the Arya Samaj members considering the less fortunate ones who were affected in recent disaster and request made by school in Fiji. The Uttarakhand Disaster is well known to many of us around here in Australia. The devastation has been enormous and Delhi Arya Pratinidhi Sabha in India is helping with relief work. Our contribution will be sent o them, and they will use it for relief works. The School repairs funding was requested by a Primary School in Labasa Fiji, and Sabha members contributed as well to help in repairs. Sabha believes donation given is our real friend. What we have shared with the needy gives lasting happiness. The Sabha will in future continue to take active part in sharing and providing help and available resources to needy. The President of the Sabha Mr Jitendra Deo thanked all the members for this noble cause and pointed that by undertaking this sort of activities, our communities can also integrate with global society. Let us all move forward with Dharma and consider the whole world as one family. There is definitely optimism as we look ahead and give a helping hand to disadvantaged where we will emerge stronger and more resilient than ever. May GOD bless you all.

The Qualities of God, Soul and Matter. At the dawn of every Creation, God takes Matter and makes it into five Elements, Space, Wind, Fire, Water and Earth, and composed them into a whole proportionately which is called the Cosmos. God makes the bodies out of the materials of the Cosmos which the Souls occupy, any object which grows or moves has presence of Soul. When Soul is removed from the body by death or otherwise it does not function and starts to decay, this is the normal or natural course or function of every created object from the Sun to a Microbe. God Soul and Matter are combined together to make this Cosmos. God is the Agential cause, and Matter is material cause. Souls are the purpose of this creation, from eternity to eternity. This is a perfect plan, and since it is perfect there is no room for revision, if any one has to make something, he has to find a maker, material and purpose before reality is achieved. In every creation this procedure is adopted, perfection never under goes correction addition or subtraction, perfection is a quality of God. God is Perfect, eternal and all powerful, all knowing and present everywhere at the same time. Matter is eternal and cannot create itself, Souls are eternal, and have limited power to think and to act. Souls are innumerable in number or you may say countless, Souls can do most things like God in a limited way, but cannot create a Sun Moon, place and sustain them where they are as it cannot achieve any thing without creating a cause. Soul is the master of the whole body structure. The five cognitive senses send their respective messages to the mind, and the mind relays the messages to the intellect. The intellect then sends the messages to the Soul, which makes decision of good and bad. The Ego gives the Soul the power to think individually. The eyes only function with light, the ears with wind, the nostrils with water, the tongue with water, the skin with feelings from earth. The five cognitive senses function because of space and gravity. The Souls of humans are influenced by impressions or Sanskaar's and the impressions are left in the memory bank for future references. The five Cognitive senses are related to the five elements which are space Air, Sun, Water and Earth. If a person wants to do something, he has to use the cognitive senses and it could be one or more of the five elements. Originally Mothers Day only existed and there was no such thing as Fathers Day. Over many years people argued for such a event to happen. Please email article to : ravideo3@gmail.com Ravneel K Deo Editor www.aryasamajqueensland.com Members performing Satsangh Yaj at Finish Hall in Mt Gravatt East Fathers day brings in yet another significant day of our existence as humans. It is a aspect where understanding and serving our elders is supreme. The Vedas relate to us about five Mahayaj's (mankind's duties), and Pitra Yaj is one of them. The third Yaj is to adore our parents, and teachers (gurus). Our mother who has given us this beautiful human body which gives us a chance for relief and salvation. It is the most precious and beautiful gift that we have been given by God. God has given it to us, in the form of our mother. The first necessity to reach salvation is that we need a body, a strong healthy body. To experience the beauty of this life we need a body. So we need to be thankful to our parents and then to our teachers. The Vedas command us, Matra devo bhava, Let your mother be God unto you; mother is God. Pitra devo bhava, let your father be God unto you, father is God. Acharya devo bhava, let your teacher (guru) be God unto you, Guru is God. To respect all of them, to take care of them, to obey them, to serve them, is Pitra Yaj. Fathers day though comes once a year, but Vedas say otherwise, its every day, not just once a year. Recently, a Fiji Senior Citizens Association organised function, had guests from greater section of community. The caring, love and unity of all regardless of colour, race, religion was dominant. The respect and love that we should give to our elders cannot be measured in any terms. The speeches given were testament of our teachings from Vedas- Matra devo bhava, Let your mother be God unto you; mother is God. Pitra devo bhava, let your father be God unto you, father is God. Every senior citizen in this world deserves respect, love, care and help. The knowledge from Vedas can be used in every situation, and lot of problems can be avoided if people follow the teachings from this divine book of knowledge. These days we see lot of fighting, disrespect for each other, killings, stealing to name few, and they are common in this world today. It makes us wonder, why people do this, must be lack of true knowledge, ignorance and ego. The simple solution to overcome this is by true knowledge, and Vedas contains all this knowledge. The true knowledge once gained can make difference to peoples lives, and they can start respecting each others life, property, freedom of speech and amid others their right to live as human beings. Lets all respect each other, give the due respect to our elders, our teachers (gurus) and make this world noble. Remember fathers day is every day, so serve with gratitude and put that smile on the face of your father or that senior citizen. Where love is, there God is also. Mahatma Gandhi

Who am I? I am a soul I am not the body, my soul is the conscious force which directs the mind what to think to speak and what action to do, the soul is immortal never born and will never die, my body dies but, not me, the soul, I am born again and again in different bodies according to the karma or action I do in different species bodies I take. Is the soul different from God? Yes, there are countless numbers of souls, but there is only one God, imagine there are countless numbers of souls perched on a tree eating and enjoying the fruits of this tree, God looks upon the birds what they do how they eat the fruits of this tree, the tree is this Cosmos the individual souls are us, who occupy the humans animals birds insects bodies etc. God being Omnipotent Omniscient Omnipresent looks and supply all the needs for souls to exist in their respective bodies, He God dispenses justice flawlessly accurate to all the souls which occupy bodies. The Souls of humans, animals and birds etc. are different from each other? No.There are three Elements Coexist with each other, God Soul and Matter from eternity to eternity they were never born will never change, they are the cause of this Cosmos, God is maker and designer of this Cosmos. Matter is the material with which God took and made this Cosmos and the Individual Souls are purpose for this Cosmos. Why souls are born in the bodies of brutes? Because the souls which did wrong Karma in the previous human bodies they occupied, they are born in brutes bodies to repay the consequences of their evil actions, brute s whole life is programmed they act with instinct and not with reason, since they were created at the time of creation they behave the same way until dissolution of the Cosmos, when they will finish serving the consequences of their action in the animal body then they will be born again in human forms. There is one Universal Soul, without a beginning or ending, that Soul is called Aum it is pronounced Om also called Paramaatmaa, there are countless numbers of individual Souls which are called Jeeva Aatmaa, the Jeevaatmaa has limited power in comparison with Paramaatmaa, the individual Soul is given a body to do karma in order to get Mukti or liberation from being born in this Cosmos, the souls which occupy body or bodies is immortal the bodies die and not the Souls. The materials with which the Cosmos is made of, is called Prakriti or Matter, God Soul and Matter coexist together, they are the cause of this massive Creation, they never born or will cease to exist from eternity to eternity, Om or God took matter and create and fashion this Cosmos for the benefit of the individual Souls Adapted from a article by Pt Hardeo Gopie. There are many stories associated with it but the one which is from the very beginning is that the festival of lights as is commonly known was first started in India by the farmers after they reaped their harvests - it originated as a harvest festival. Every harvest normally spelt prosperity. Farmers performed HAVAN and celebrated with joy and thanked and offered praises to The Almighty God for granting them a good crop. While Diwali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant meaning is- the awareness of the inner light. Diwali is about the triumph of virtue over vice, of good over evil, of light over darkness and of knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is supposed to be the beginning of a better life, better future and better prospects. It is about unity, tolerance and understanding and our hopes and ambitions for the future. It reminds us that love, concern and respect for others is the way to a brighter day. Regardless of race or faith, people all over the world identify this with the message of Diwali. Diwali should be a time of reflection how far we have come from the same time last year and where we are heading. It should be about celebration drawing the races together with joy to celebrate health, life and all its goodness. It is about sharing, remembering the poor, the old and the frail through service. It should be about letting the light in and letting go of bitter memories, no more fights, no more quarrels and none of those old wounds. This annual celebration of Diwali is an occasion for everyone to reach out to one another in the spirit of love and goodwill. Diwali gives everyone a welcome chance to pause and reflect on what we achieved and hope to achieve. The flames of the Havan Yaj that was performed earlier on today or the clay lamp is a symbolic representation of the victory of light over darkness, of knowledge over ignorance and prosperity over poverty. Havan Yaj holds a place of great importance in all Vedic/Hindu religious ceremonies and festivals. While performing the Havan we pray to The Almighty God and sing verses in praise of Him. These verses have meaningful thoughts which describe the attributes and functions of God. The verses from the Vedas urge us to perform good deeds and make our lives nobler. The benefit from Havan is that it purifies the air and the surrounding atmosphere and people who perform Havan regularly get the opportunity of studying the Vedas and other scriptures and in this way their intellect and the mind become pure then we can do good deeds. Let us reach out to one another in the spirit of love and goodwill that lies at the heart of all great cultures and religions of this world. In each legend, myth and story of Diwali lies the significance of the victory of good over evil; and it is with each Diwali and the lights that illuminate our homes and hearts, that this simple truth finds new reason and hope. From darkness unto light the light that empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds, that which brings us closer to divinity. On behalf of Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Queensland Inc (APSQ), I extend my heartiest greetings & best wishes on the occasion of Diwali and start of our New Year. May God shower upon all of us good health, happiness, peace & prosperity, and bless us with the wisdom of the following prayer: Om Asato Maa Sat Gamaya - Lead me from Falsehood to Truth. Tamaso Maa Jyotir Gamaya - Lead me from darkness or ignorance to light or knowledge. Mrityor Maa Amritam Gamaya - Lead me from death to immortality. May this Diwali enlighten your inner soul and bring you close to the ALMIGHTY. Diwali also holds a special significance for Arya Samaj as on this day, Swami Dayanand, the founder of Arya Samaj left his physical body for the heavenly abode. Arya Samaj thus observes Rishi Nirvan Divas on Diwali. Let us pay tribute to Swami ji through commitment in carrying on with his mission and vision of Krinvanto Vishvam Aryam. Making the World Noble. Wishing you all, once again, a very Happy Diwali and a blissful New Year!

Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati Swami Dayanand(1824-1883) was the founder of the Hindu reform organization Arya Samaj, which he established on April 7th 1875, in Bombay India. He also created the 10 principles of Arya Samaj. Throughout his life, Swami Dayanand preached against many Hindu traditions which he felt were dogmatic and oppressive. These included traditions such as caste by birth, and the exclusion of females from the study of the Vedas. One of his main messages was for Hindus to go back to the roots of their religion, which are the Vedas. By doing this, he felt that Hindus would be able to improve the depressive religious, social, political, and economic conditions prevailing in India in his times. Swami Dayanand was born on February 12th, 1824 in a town called Tankara in the state of Gujurat, India. One of Swami Dayanand's major arguments for going back to the Vedas was that, in his own words " the four Vedas, the repositories of knowledge & religious truth, are the Word of God. They are absolutely free of error, & the Supreme & independent authority ". The four Vedas are; Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, & Atharva Veda. To spread awareness of his movement and to revitalize Vedic knowledge, Swami Dayanand published many religious books. These include; Satyartha Prakash ( The light of Truth ), the Rig-Vedaadi, Bhasyya- Bhoomika, and Sanskar Vidhi. Swami Dayanand preached many messages to Hindus during his lifetime. For instance, he preached that Hindus should worship just one, formless, God. He fought against polytheism by telling people the true meaning of the names of God, & established how all of them pointed at one & the same God- Paramathama, the Supreme Self. Further, Swami was " a voice against superstition, against unrighteousness, which reigned supreme in the garb of true religion, and against a foreign rule ". Throughout his known adult life, Swami's main message was " Back to the Vedas ". By this, Swami Dayanand meant that Hindus should stop practising beliefs such as caste, polytheism, pantheism, untouchability, child marriages, forced widowhood, and many other practices which he felt were wrong. He challenged many of the Hindu orthodoxy if they could justify their belief in the aforementioned practices. This induced the anger and wrath of many orthodox Hindus, which subsequently led to 14 attempts at poisoning Dayanand. Miraculously, he was able to use his Yogic abilities to cure himself from the first 13 attempts. However, the 14th time proved fatal. Swami Dayanand died, and left the world with his legacy, Arya Samaj. Diwali is also know as Rishi Nirvan Diwas, the day he gave up his life.
