Our Member Churches Offertory Collection for the 1st Sunday of Advent Totaled: $ 3,326.50. Our December Monthly Collection Totaled: $ 2,934.00. Thanks to all of our parishioners for your continued generous financial support! Thank you for remembering our sick, those who are hospitalized, homebound and elderly in your daily prayers. Your simple acts of kindness do not go unappreciated. We also thank all of our devoted Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist for bringing the Body of Christ to those unable to attend Mass regularly. ROSARY The Rosary is prayed every Tuesday following the 9 AM Mass at Sacred Heart Church. This week our intention is for the safety and well being of our troops serving proudly around the world, and for their families who sacrifice and persevere each day in the absence of those they love. A FAMILY PERSEPCTIVE Why is it so hard to forgive, yet so easy to get even? Listen to John the Baptist in today s gospel and repent of the anger and ugly feelings which block your ability to forgive. This Christmas give a gift which makes a difference. Give forgiveness MASS INTENTIONS Our Mass Intention Book for 2018 is now available. Mass intentions for the living and the deceased are available Masses may also be celebrated as a Special Intention, and Mass cards for all are always available. The offering for weekday Masses is $ 15, and $ 20 for weekends. It is a good and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins. [2 Maccabees 12:46] Please give Sandy a call at the parish office if you would like to schedule a Mass. SANCTUARY LAMP In every Catholic Church, the Sanctuary Lamp signifies the Eucharistic presence of the Lord Jesus in the Tabernacle and burns for seven days. You may have the Sanctuary Lamp memorialized for a sick person, a deceased family member or friend, or as a special intention. The weekly donation for this is $25. Sanctuary Lamps can be memorialized in each of the three churches of St. Kateri Tekakwitha. If you would like to reserve a week in any of our churches, please contact Sandy at the parish office. Our Second Collection this weekend is the Retirement Fund for Religious throughout our Archdiocese. The additional support you provide is very much appreciated by the retired brothers, sisters and priests who live on their own and continue to serve the people in their vocations.

SAINT LUCY, VIRGIN & MARTYR Every little girl named Lucy must bite her tongue in disappointment when she first tries to find out what there is to know about her patron saint. The older books will have a lengthy paragraph detailing a small number of traditions. Newer books will have a lengthy paragraph showing that there is little basis in history for these traditions. The single fact survives that a disappointed suitor accused Lucy of being a Christian and she was executed in Syracuse (Sicily) in the year 304. But it is also true that her name is mentioned in the First Eucharistic Prayer, geographical places are named after her, a popular song has her name as its title, and down through the centuries many thousands of little girls have been proud of the name Lucy. One can easily imagine what a young Christian woman had to contend with in pagan Sicily in the year 300. If you have trouble imagining, just glance at today s pleasure-at-all-costs world and the barriers it presents against leading a good Christian life. Her friends must have wondered aloud about this hero of Lucy s, an obscure itinerant preacher in a far-off captive nation that had been destroyed more than 200 years before. Once a carpenter, he had been crucified by the Roman soldiers after his own people turned him over to the Roman authorities. Lucy believed with her whole soul that this man had risen from the dead. Heaven had put a stamp on all he said and did. To give witness to her faith she had made a vow of virginity. What a hubbub this caused among her pagan friends! The kindlier ones just thought her a little strange. To be pure before marriage was an ancient Roman ideal, rarely found but not to be condemned. To exclude marriage altogether, however, was too much. She must have something sinister to hide, the tongues wagged. Lucy knew of the heroism of earlier virgin martyrs. She remained faithful to their example and to the example of the carpenter, whom she knew to be the Son of God. She is the patroness of eyesight. If you are named Lucy, you need not bite your tongue in disappointment. Your patron is a genuine, authentic heroine, first class, an abiding inspiration for you and for all Christians. The moral courage of the young Sicilian martyr shines forth as a guiding light, just as bright for today s youth as it was in A.D. 304. We celebrate her feast this week on December 13th. CRECHES OF THE WORLD PEACE ON EARTH This exhibit at The Knights of Columbus Museum located at 1 State Street in New Haven, is open until February 19th, 2018. The museum offers both free admission and free parking. The beautiful crèches from around the world will delight young and old alike, and are a wonder to behold. Each one is unique in design and in craftsmanship. The museum is open everyday from 10 AM until 5 PM. This is great for the whole family to experience!

December 13th from 3:30 4:30 PM at Sacred Heart. THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT On this Second Sunday of Advent, our lives are busy with shopping lists, and details to which we must attend. The gospel, and especially its opening, seems to lend itself to our frenetic pace. Still there is the proclamation that something, someone, is coming. His is mightier than John the Baptist, mightier than our concerns for the season, mightier than our lists of things to get done. He will baptize with THURSDAY MORNING PRAYERS Join fellow Saint Kateri Parish Family Members in prayer each Thursday morning at 9 AM at Saint Bernard Church. All are welcome to join in this informal group prayer time. Our GIVING TREE Program is underway in each worship site. Each church has a tree...various organizations will benefit in each community.
