Doug Lewis, that Bishop Tracy Malone was appointing me to the East Fairfield UMC in the Mahoning Valley District effective July 1. Two weeks later, on April 9, it was announced in worship by John Bowers, the Chairperson of the SPRC, that Rev. Lori Burdette-Steele will be appointed as the new pastor to Creston Canaan UMC beginning on July 1. With the announcements of my move and the incoming pastor, it s only natural to look back on the years we ve spent together. I ve begun the countdown of lasts, yet I remember my firsts so clearly. I remember the first day as we were moving in. Walking into the parsonage for the first time as the new pastor, waiting for the moving van to arrive and seeing a bouquet on the kitchen counter full of flowers and gift cards that made our first days and weeks so much easier and immediately Chuck and I felt accepted. I think back to the first church activity VBS and

2 getting to know all those folks who did and still do such an amazing job. The first year of holiday worship firsts, our first Christmas and Easter together, Mother s Day, Father s Day, and All-Saints Day. I remember relying on John Murray to tell me the tradition and how it had been done so I didn t go off a deep end. He was always there to keep me on the straight and narrow. But the thing I remember most are your faces. There are the faces that have been there, working, serving and ministering from the first day to today. Faces like Cathy Coffey, Alice Murray, Gerri Williams, Linda Kauf and so many more of you. There are faces I miss each and every day, already Gary Murray, Kay Russell, Emily Plank, Daisy Bidinger, just to name a few. There are the faces that have changed so much like Garrison, he was just a little kid now he s a young man. Eliza Kinney was a baby when I arrived and Addie not much older than a toddler. The best thing about remembering your faces is I will always remember how much I loved each of you and how you all were family to Chuck and me. There are also all the new faces that have come and joined this family, like the Stanley family, the Haynes family, Opal Rogers, Norma Nichols, Greta Stahl. I wish I could name all the faces that I will remember but there s not enough room here because I will remember you all!!! (Please keep in mind.5-6 years from now, names might be a different story.) Over the past nine years we have served God mightily, we have laughed, cried, disagreed, succeeded, failed, and so much more. As the lasts have already begun, I celebrate the firsts and everything that has been in between. Thank you for allowing Chuck and me to join you for nine years of ministry and life. From Pastor Deb Mission Efforts...and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works Hebrews 10:24 People to People/Salvation Army We are givers! The donation items for May will be paper products (toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, etc.), for June will be Helper mixes (hamburger, potato, etc.), and for July will be peanut butter. CRESTON CANAAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 166 SOUTH MAIN STREET P.O. BOX 1111 CRESTON, OH 44217 6 The Voice Newsletter of the Creston Canaan United Methodist Church I feared you were not born again; and except a man be born again, if we may credit the Son of God, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven; except he experience that inward change of the earthly, sensual mind, for the mind which was in Christ Jesus. ~~~John Wesley
