RADBURN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES APRIL 13, 2005 7:30 9:30 PM ATTENDANCE: Total number of citizens: 34 I. WELCOME: June Meyerson, CA President called the meeting to order and all stood for the pledge of allegiance. June announced that another anonymous donor will match donations if they total $100. A big thank you goes out to our anonymous donors. II. MINUTES: Minutes of the March 16, 2005 meeting were read by Maureen Moriarty, Secretary. Crystal Robbins made a motion to approve the minutes and Joanne Kurr second the motion. Minutes were approved. III. TREASURER S REPORT: June Meyerson stated the Radburn Citizens Association treasury report ended 12/31/2004. A check register was not provided by the previous treasurer, only a spreadsheet of deposits and expenses. The spreadsheet stated a balance of $543.92 as of 12/31/2004, of which $407.24 was allocated to the garden committee. The bank statement had a balance of $696.26, which is different from the spreadsheet balance. A check in the amount of $1790.00 was written to the Radburn Association on 12/30/2004. The amount of the check was divided: $1490 for the sale of notecards. Louise Orlando stated at the meeting that the $1490 was for tree plantings and the CA owed the RA $300 for the 2000 House Tour. Louise Orlando also said that the printing for the notecards was approximately $1500. June Meyerson did not accept the previous budget, and stated the balance as of January 1, 2005 to be $696.26 which correlated with the bank statement. Ellen Cicero stated that the citizens voted for the current CA officers so that there would be more accountability. She suggested having an accountant ask the RA questions. Barbara Gremillot, Treasurer, presented the following 2005 budget: Balance began with $696.26; we ve received $500 in donations; $450 from the fundraiser cooking with Christine; and $876.00 from the Caberet fundraiser. Current balance was $2,398.00. A motion was made to ask June Meyerson to go to the Board and request that the $1790 be returned to the Citizens Association,unless there was approval by a quorum and they show documentation. Motion passed. 26 in favor, 4 opposed and 4 abstentions. END OF Eugene Gerlants asked why the Radburn Association takes money from the Citizens Association for planting trees. It was explained that the money sold for the sale of notecards was dedicated to the Radburn Association for planting trees.

STANDING COMMITTEES: SPORTS AND RECREATION, John Radice, Vice-President The Board has approved movies and basketball in the Grange on Friday nights. John announced that men s basketball was 7:30 to 9:00. This Friday (April 15) the Lion King will be showing from 6:00 to 7:30 and the Incredibles from 7:30 to 9:00. John hopes to have movies in the park this summer and June Meyerson will present this to the Board for approval. John announced the T-shirt contest ends April 22 and there haven t been any entries except for John s. Kathy Moore suggested V-neck t-shirts and offered to help with t- shirts. John said Family Day is moving along, this committee meets every two weeks and asked for more volunteers to sign up after the meeting. The next Family Day meeting will be April 25 at 8:00 at the Moriarty/Roney home. CHILDRENS PROGRAM COMMITTEE, Katie Dunnigan, Chair reported this committee had a meeting with June Meyerson, Louise Orlando, Scott Bray, Don Morris and they were very receptive. Amy Hopwood said the committee was requesting an open gym time during bad weather for pre-k children (supervised by parents) on Tuesday and Thursday between 2:00 and 5:00. THE RADBURN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION YOUTH COMMITTEE: Larry Koplik, Advisor, reported that the youth committee roster currently consists of (14) Young Radburnites ranging in age from 9 to 17. The first meeting had 8 attendees and took place on April 7 at June Meyerson s home. Lauren Prastein of 29 Sandford Road reported: We had an excellent first meeting. A wide range of ages is represented which is valuable. It was a lively and insightful discussion and several very useful ideas emerged. At later Citizens Association meetings we will present our findings as we develop them. Some have already begun to emerge and we will decide at our Youth Committee meetings the exact methods of presentation. The second meeting will be held in the Grange Library on May 5. PARKS, GARDENS AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE: Felice Koplik, Chair, stated that in the RCA constitution it reads that the Parks, Gardens, and Grounds Committee is to cooperate with the Radburn Association trustees in the upkeep of the parks, sidewalks, physical facilities of Radburn and to mobilize public opinion for their proper use and care.
RADBURN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION MINUTES 4/13/2005 Page 3 Joanne Kurr reported that the Garden Committee presented their proposal for plantings to Steven Kiel (Parks and Grounds Committee) and he liked it and told her that there will be funds available to the CA Parks, Gardens and Grounds Committee. Joanne also said that Lucky Abernathy and Leslie Thompson donated dozens of canna tubers and day lilies. The committee plans on planting on Saturday, April 23 and the following Saturday will be planting with the children. HOSPITALITY/WELCOME COMMITTEE: Barbara Gremillot said there were 22 new families and they will be sending hand written invitations to the newcomers tea and distributing baskets. The tea is scheduled for May 15. Rita Golding asked if the tea could be changed because the Players are having an afternoon play on that day. June Meyerson said she would try to change the date. EVENTS: June announced that 30 people participated in Cooking with Christine. Christine donated all the supplies and this was a total fundraiser that raised $450. CABARET NIGHT; Crystal Robbins said Caberet Night was very successful. She thanked all those involved especially Marc and Renee Sussman who donated their $15,000 PA system. There were photos on the table from the event and more photos could be viewed at Steve Moore s website: www.stevemoorephoto.com.. Crystal thanked all involved by name. Stu Golding added that all the talent was from Radburn citizens. 10 th ANNUAL GOLF OUTING will be Wednesday September 28. June stated all interested should call Rich Baldwin (797-3745). HOLIDAY SOIREE will be Saturday, December 3. BABYSITTING ROSTER: June said call Sue Main for babysitters at 797-7129. V. OLD BUSINESS AND PRESIDENT S REPORT June Meyerson summarized the RCA newsletter to the community, dated April 7, 2005. The Trustees have made a public declaration in their March 17 letter that June Meyerson will be able to see the contract. June encouraged all Radburn citizens to attend meetings, including Trustees, where all votes are counted. June is working to create a meeting between a group of citizens and the Trustees.
RADBURN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION MINUTES 4/13/2005 Page 4 VI. NEW BUSINESS Rita Golding thanked everyone for joining the Radburn Players and made a request for additional members. Members get discounts on play tickets. She announced that the play Noises Off would be on May 6, 7 and 8 and May 15, 16 and 17. June Meyerson spoke about starting a childrens theater group and Katie Dunigan expressed interest for her daughter. Bob Gulak stated that at a recent borough council meeting the council spoke about a rumor that was circulating that the Landmark developers were interested in buying Archery Plaza. The Radburn Association calls upon President Meyerson to ask the Trustees whether the Landmark Corporation, or any outside entity, has had any communication in any manner with any representative of the Radburn Association that indicates an interest in buying Archery Plaza, and to communicate to the Trustees that it is the sense of the Citizens Association that Archery Plaza should not be sold, and that the deed resriction mandating that Archery Plaza remain a recreational area should be honored. END OF Bob Gulak stated his concern that the Radburn Manager did not inform Burgiss, the planner hired by the municipal council, that Archery Plaza was deed restricted. The Radburn Citizens Association calls upon President Meyerson to communicate to the Trustees that it is the sense of the Citizens Association that the failure of the Radburn Manager to provide a copy of the deed restriction on Archery Plaza to the planner hired by Fair Lawn was not consitent with her duties as Radburn Manager. END OF Walter Weglien read a statement about what he called the disgraceful condition of R park. He asked June Meyerson to present his statement to the Trustees. Stu Golding said that he approached the Manager and President of the Citizens Association, Steven Keil last year and the landscaper had given them a price of $45,000 to plant grass to stop erosion and other problems. Was there any competitive bidding? Craig Miller said there are dead trees on people s property and asked if the Trustees walk the entire park? Gina Gruber also mentioned pricker bushes. Several complaints were made about tire tracks in the parks. Felice Koplik said some landscapers have small trucks that ride on the sidewalks, and said that the RA should look into other landscapers with small trucks
RADBURN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION MINUTES 4/13/2005 Page 5 Don Borodkin commented on the letter that the Trustees sent to the residents. He said his letter had a.60 stamp and when he weighed it at the post office it should have only been a.37 stamp. He suggested the Radburn Association could have saved money if they had a poster meter in the grange. Katie Dunnigan made a motion that the Radburn Association should cover the cost of the Citizens Association newsletter and be delivered via the post office. June Meyerson said the newsletter costs about $85.00 a month. END OF Kathy Moore presented a fact sheet from the DEP stating that they will be testing the homes in spring or early summer, and the residents would get results in two months after testing. Kathy stated that Archery Plaza was contaminated with PCE, dry cleaning chemicals. She also stated that the Radburn Association is a 501.c.4 a social welfare organization. Gina Gurber mentioned that a sewer in front of her house was sealed. Kathy Moore stated that the Civic Affairs Committee will look into this. Ron Coll gave a passionate speech for democracy in Radburn. IX. TO ADJOURN: Joanne Kurr made a motion to adjourn and Larry Koplik second the motion. VI.
