If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. when I became a man, I did away with childish things. THE PASTOR S PERSPECTVE REV JEFF KLANSEK, Pastor It seems like every year at the start of February, love is in the air. We can not blame it on Spring since Spring is more than a month away. So it must be the upcoming Valentine's Day on on the 14th. Many have thoughts of reds hearts and roses, cards and candy of every sort. And yet where did this whole concept of "Love" come from. It started in the beginning at the moment God created Mankind and at that moment with the ability to love. Man was created in the very image of God, so in many ways, mankind shares some similar attributes of God. The Bible states in 1 John 4:16 "And we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him." The very nature of God is love, For He is the embodiment of love. Our culture has many different understanding of what true love is, however for the believer in Christ, we do not have to determine true love by our culture, true love is that which comes from God. In Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us." It was while we were still lost, still a rebel, still an enemy of God, that God showed his love for us in sending Jesus Christ, in order to die for our sins. God's love is unconditional, it is always available, and it was demonstrated in self-sacrifice as Jesus went to the cross and died. And it is this type of love that we are bring to the world. A love that loves the unlovable, a love that loves the undeserving and a love that loves even our enemies. This kind of love, is also about truth and justice. It is not a type of love that lets the guilty free, without a just punishment. We often talk about the love that God has for Mankind, but biblically we can not separates His unconditional love from the eternal sacrifice that Christ gave as in John 3:16 "God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." As love is in the air, let us not forgot, the true love that God has for us and the sacrifice that Jesus gave on our behalf. The Bible isn't the book of the week, or even the book of the year. It's the book of the ages! As the prophet Isaiah declared, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever" Rev Rick Mitchell Cornerstone Baptist Church 80 West Brubaker Valley Road Lititz, PA 17543 717-626-3104 Web: cornerstonebaptistministry.org Facebook: Cornerstone Baptist Ministry Lititz
