CO R NE RSTO N E N E WS The vision of Cornerstone Community Church is to be full of Christ s love and see souls saved through the power of the Holy Spirit. December 2017 Cornerstone Community Church Newsletter Christmas Greetings, Cornerstone Family! Running through my head these days, is Meredith Willson s 1951 Christmas song, It s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, made popular by Perry Como and The Fontane Sisters. My sincere thanks to Alisa Hoffmaster and all her little elves who helped decorate our church so beautifully, once again, to make it look a lot like Christmas. Also our sincere thanks to Don and Diana Hanson for the beautiful nativity scene they purchased and set up in the foyer as well. This is always such a fun time of the year for so many. I pray that it will be for you and yours as well, as we celebrate and remember the coming of our Lord Jesus to earth to save his people from their sins. These four weeks of Advent, leading up to Christmas, are so important for they can help us stay focused on the true meaning of this season when there are so many other things vying for our attention; things like shopping, baking, decorating, traveling, gift wrapping and gift giving, parties, special programs, and so on. The dual theme of Advent (which means coming ) is both to prepare us for celebrating Christ s first coming to earth, when he would eventually die for the sins of all humanity, and to prepare for Christ s second coming to earth, when he will receive unto himself in heaven all who believe in him alone for the forgiveness of sin and eternal life. It s my hope and prayer that you can join us each week, from now through Christmas Eve, as we celebrate Christ s first coming, and look forward to his second coming. Our theme this year comes from Revelation 22:20, where the Apostle John wrote with excited anticipation of the fulfillment of Christ s promise to come again; Amen. Come Lord Jesus! On Sunday, December 3rd, we will consider the significance of God s promise to us that our Savior would (and will) Come. On December 10th, we will consider the significance of the claims of scripture and of Christ himself, that he is Lord! Then, on the 17th, in addition to the Children s Christmas program that morning, we will consider the meaning of the name Jesus. Then finally, since Christmas Eve falls on the fourth Sunday of Advent this year, we will have one service in the afternoon our regular 4 pm Candlelight Service and consider together the meaning and significance of the expression, Amen! So just to clarify, there will be NO morning worship service on the 24th. Only the 4 pm service. Then on Sunday, December 31st, we will have a very different service as we close out 2017. We will be devoting much of the service to prayer. There will be a few songs, and a brief meditation from me on prayer, but much of the service will be given to prayer, with an emphasis on praying for healing. We have many in our church who are suffering with one form of chronic illness or another and, in many cases, live with constant pain. Therefore, the Elders and I will be providing a time during the service where we will anoint with oil, lay hands on, and pray - for any who will want this - in accordance with James 5:14, which reads; Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. I am really looking forward to these upcoming services in December! Coming in January! A sermon series from the Bible that will challenge us all! As a way of involving members of the congregation and challenging us in our Bible knowledge, a weekly Bible game is being planned; patterned after the game show, The American Bible Challenge. In order for this part of the series to be successful and fun for everyone, Pastor Bill is looking for eight (8) teams of people, consisting of two to four family members and/or friends, to compete against each other from January 7 th February 18 th. All eight teams will play on one of the four Sundays in January. The winners of those contests will challenge each other in the first two weeks of February. And the winners from those two weeks will challenge each other in the championship round on February 18 th. Please register your team at the information table in the foyer. More information will be available in the weeks to come; such as how to prepare, when you will compete, and so on. Bible related prizes will be awarded all contestants. Talk to Pastor Bill if you have questions before signing up.
