[ B E L I E V E R S B I B L E S T U D Y ] THE GOSPEL OF JOHN Chapter 9 INTRODUCTION... In Chapter Nine we see the miracle of the man born blind who receives his sight from Jesus. From this incident we receive the famous quote, though I was blind, now I see. When we are born again, Jesus opens our spiritual eyes so we may see the truth about who He is and how He works. Reflect for a moment on the change that took place in your life when your eyes were opened and you saw the truth about Jesus. We also see that the Pharisees are again seeking accusations against Jesus. Refusing to see His works as from God, they hold to their own ideologies as to how the Messiah should teach and act. We must always look to Jesus when we want to form our ideas about who God is. Studying ALL His teachings will always lead us to a right view of God and what it means to work the works of God (vs. 4). Be sure that you read the questions carefully to make sure that you have answered the complete question. You will notice that some of the questions may have more than one part to them. Remember that you will be using the Inductive Bible Study (IBS) method of study. Which means that in each study you will be required to make observations, interpretations and application of what you have observed and interpreted? (see further explanation in Study #1) THIS WEEK S SCRIPTURE MEMORY VERSE... John 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind. NKJV THIS WEEKS BIBLE STUDY...CHAPTER NINE... Be sure and pray before you begin your bible study, asking the Lord to reveal those things that He wants you to know from the text you are reading. Read through the chapter, at least twice, and then answer the following questions. Be sure to write the Scripture reference to support your answer. 1

Why did they call Jesus Rabbi? Why do you think they asked this question? What did Jesus mean by, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.? How long had this man been blind? What do you think Jesus meant by while it is day? Read the following verses and write about how Jesus healed others who were blind? Matthew 9:27-29 2

Matthew 20:30-33 Mark 8:22-26 Mark 10:46-52 Luke 18:35-43 John 9:6-7 What conclusion can we draw from these healings in regards to the way Jesus heals? A What personal application can we draw from this? 3

Why didn t the blind man who was healed know where Jesus was? What is the significance of Jesus healing the man on the Sabbath? Why do you think the Pharisees asked how he was healed a second time? What did the Pharisees mean by what they said in vs. 16? Why was there division among the Pharisees? What did they call Jesus? Why do you think the Pharisees were so interested in the details of this man s healing? 4

What did the blind man say about who Jesus was? Why do you think he said this? Why did the Pharisees ask this man s parents about his healing? Why did his parents respond the way they did? Who did the Pharisees believe did the healing? By believing the way they did, what were they saying about Jesus? 5

What spiritual truth can we draw from vs. 25 as it pertains to telling others about Jesus? What do you think was going on in the Pharisees minds when they heard the man s answer in vs. 27? Was what they said in vs. 29 true? Why or why not? Why did they cast him out? A What person application does this have in our own lives? 6

What do we learn about Jesus in vs. 35? What do you think Jesus meant by vs. 39-41? Write down some of the things that the Lord spoke to your heart while studying Chapter 9? QUESTIONS?...
