The Paper Reference is 40552.! Answer four questions. Each question has 5 parts.! Do all rough work in your answer book. Cross through any work that you do not want to be marked. Information! The marks for questions are shown in brackets.! The maximum mark for this paper is 72.! You will be marked on your ability to: use good English organise information clearly use specialist vocabulary where appropriate. 40552

2 Answer four questions. There are 18 marks for each question. Each question has five parts. Answer all five parts of each question chosen. Question 1 Religion and Animal Rights Look at the photographs below. 0 1 Give two reasons why some religious believers do not eat meat. (2 marks) 0 2 Explain why some religious people believe that humans are more important than animals. 0 3 Religious believers should try to prevent species of animals from becoming extinct. 0 4 Explain religious attitudes towards hunting animals. (4 marks) 0 5 It is wrong to experiment on animals.

3 Question 2 Religion and Planet Earth Look at the photograph below, which shows a conservation project. 0 6 Explain why some religious believers support conservation. 0 7 Give two examples of how global warming is damaging the world. (2 marks) 0 8 God created life on earth. 0 9 Explain religious attitudes to pollution. (4 marks) 1 0 The world s natural resources are for people to use as they wish. 4 Question 3 Religion and Prejudice Look at the deþ nition below. Prejudice means to judge someone unfairly before the true facts about them are known. 1 1 Give two causes of racism. (2 marks) 1 2 Explain why some religious believers might support positive discrimination. 1 3 Religious believers should help victims of prejudice. 1 4 Describe the work of one religious believer who has fought against prejudice. (4 marks) 1 5 Religious prejudice is the worst type of prejudice.

5 Question 4 Religion and Early Life Look at the photograph below. 1 6 Give two reasons why a woman might choose to have an abortion. (2 marks) 1 7 Explain why most religious believers see children as a blessing. 1 8 Religious believers should always protect the rights of the unborn child. 1 9 Explain religious attitudes to when human life begins. 6 Question 5 Religion, War and Peace Look at the photograph below. 2 1 Give two ways in which organisations might help victims of war. (2 marks) 2 2 Describe the work of one religious believer who has campaigned for peace. 2 3 No war should be called a Holy War. 2 4 Explain why some religious believers might not be prepared to fight in a war. (4 marks) 2 5 It is wrong to have nuclear weapons.

7 Question 6 Religion and Young People Look at the photograph below. 2 6 Give two ways schools might help young people to learn about religion. (2 marks) 2 7 Explain why religious festivals might be important to young people. 2 8 The home is the best place for teaching religion. 2 9 Explain the importance of birth/initiation ceremonies to religious believers.
