We are Christ preaching! We preach Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen Lord, is the only Savior for all the people of the world. Through His suffering, death, and resurrection, we have forgiveness of sins and everlasting life. We are Bible believing! We believe that every word of the Bible is ; that it is completely true and the only source and authority for Christian life and faith. We are People serving! We want what God wants, that all people be saved and come to knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:41). We want to share with you and everyone the message of God s love in Jesus Christ. Building on the only foundation there is: Christ crucified and risen! SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES SUPPLY MANAGER This involves a trip to Sam s Club every one or two months to restock our kitchen inventory of plates, napkins, plastic knives, forks and spoons, coffee, creamer, sugar, paper goods, and cleaning supplies. This person could use a church credit card and then provide the church treasurer with receipts. PROPERTY MANAGER This person sets up appointments and oversees basic maintenance and repair work in and around the church. Some experience in working with electricians, plumbers, roofers, painters, HVAC contractors, and other service providers would be helpful. OFFERING COUNTERS Counts the offering and prepares bank deposit. Time commitment is approximately 30 minutes after the worship service. Minimal computer use; training will be offered. SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS Teaching using WELS materials to two age groups: pre-school to 3 rd grade, and 4 th grade and up. Involves some craft preparation. Training and mentoring for this important work will be offered. PREPARE LORD S SUPPER (ALTAR SERVICE) Set up Lord s Supper prior to Sunday worship, clean and put away altar vessels after the service. Notify church secretary when supplies need to be reordered. Change altar hanging as appropriate through the church year. Optional: arrange altar flowers in vases. Schedule is very flexible. SIGN MANAGER This would involve placing various messages PTV Basketball Camp, Outdoor Services, Merry Christmas etc. on the outdoor board throughout the year. This might require an hour or two a month. More could be done with changing monthly or weekly announcements if the person wanted to do more. FACE BOOK MANAGER Do you Face Book? This would involve posting pictures, video and announcements on the CTR page. More or less could be done as far as time. The important thing would be to monitor discussions. Time required?

He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. What is the importance of Christian Baptism? A man lies in the recovery room after serious, life-saving heart surgery. The surgeon walks into the room and gets down on his knees beside the bed. With tears in his eyes the doctor says, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can t thank you enough for what you have done for me! There s something backwards about that scene. Shouldn t the patient be the one thanking the doctor? After all, that surgeon saved his life. The patient owes that medical man a huge debt of gratitude. Many people get Christian Baptism backwards. They think that Baptism is something we do for God, a way of showing obedience to him. That seems appropriate. After all, parents are the ones who bring their children to the baptismal font. However, in Baptism God is really the one who does something for us. And what wonderful things God does for us in Baptism! The apostle Peter said, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). In those words Peter describes two of the wondrous blessings of Baptism: the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We are all sinners. Sin separates us from God. Sin takes away the blessings he wants us to have. Sin keeps us out of heaven. So God did something about sin. He sent Jesus, his Son. Jesus lived perfectly in our place, died on the cross to pay for all our sins and rose again to assure us of eternal life. In Baptism, God gives us this forgiveness that Jesus won for us. The other blessing, the gift of the Holy Spirit, is faith or trust in Jesus. Faith is the hand that receives all the blessings that Jesus won for us. In Baptism God miraculously works faith in our hearts so that we don t miss out on a single blessing that Jesus won for us. Through faith worked in Baptism, God gives us all the blessings earned by our Savior: forgiveness of sins, a new life of peace and hope, and eternal life in heaven. Is Baptism important? Absolutely! In Baptism God is at work for us. Through Baptism God saves us. For more Questions & Answers, go to www.whataboutjesus.com, then Questioning God.

Our call has been accepted Pastor Jeffery Enderle of Carlsbad, CA will be coming to serve as our new Pastor in the coming month. Details will be shared later. After a month Jeffery Enderle, his wife Angela and their 4 children will be our fellow members. (Pastor Kurth will continue to serve as Vacancy Pastor until Pastor Enderle is installed. Sunday Morning Bible Study: Exodus The Israelites tested God in many ways after they were delivered from slavery in Egypt. Again and again we are reminded of how patiently God dealt with his people. The same God still displays that same grace in our lives. Come hear how your God has delivered you from sin and damnation, and given you the promise of eternal life! Congregational Assistant Wally Meyer passes away Wally Meyer went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday Aug. 22. The memorial service was held on Aug. 27 th here at Christ the Rock. We thank God for Wally s faithful service and join in the comforting of his wife Sujean and family in their mixed joy and sorrow at his passing. May we be encouraged by his example to step forward in helping to share the gospel. Great Faith What constitutes a great faith? What means is used to measure that which is called the substance of things hoped for and the certainty of things unseen? (Hebrews 11:1) It is hard to explain faith, let alone measure it. Jesus, however, knows. He also knows the standard to determine what great faith is, and he uses it in respect to the woman who pleaded for his help. Two observations led Jesus to pronounce that this woman had a great faith. The first was her knowledge of Jesus ability to help, and her tenacious hold on that knowledge. She knew what Jesus ministry was all about, and she was not going to challenge it or seek to change it. The second was her persistence. She wasn t going to take no for an answer. This Jesus called a great faith, and it is a model of faith I need to pursue. Sometimes my grasp of and his promises is tentative at best. I may know the words, but I don t understand what Jesus ministry was truly about. This results in a lack of persistence. I will pray, but it becomes an occasional practice, and I quickly give up because to me the Lord doesn t seem interested. I need to recognize my weakness and confess it. Then I need to get back to the Lord and his Word. Here I receive the joyful proclamation that the barrier to my prayers is removed. In addition, I receive the very means I need to strengthen my faith. Through a daily study of the Word, my faith in Jesus grows stronger. My grasp of God s promises becomes firmer. Even the devil cannot cause me to lose my grip on his precious words. I even see a growing persistence in my prayer life. I pray more often and with more passion. These are only a few results of a life of faith through the working of the Word. There is also a greater boldness to approach the Lord, a greater certainty of his help, and a greater peace to know he will always answer me for my good. So a goal for me in this life is simple. I do not strive to be recognized simply as a person who has a great faith. Rather, I want to be known as a person who has great faith in an ever greater Lord and Savior.
