Organ Recital Friday, December 1 st at 12.30pm Music at the Organ Recital in December is by Bach and Vierne: one of Bach s finest Preludes and fugues. The Vierne pieces are all from his 2 nd book of Pièces de Fantaisie of 1926/7. Christopher Friday, December 1st: If any parents of Cant and Dec singers (or any willing helpers) could help us to make the Christingles we will be meeting while the children sing on Friday, December 1st at 6.30pm in the Parish Hall Meeting Room. NEXT SUNDAY The Christingle Service Sunday, December 3 rd at 4.00pm The annual service of light for children and their families in aid of The Children s Society followed by a Children s Party in the Parish Hall (There is therefore no Family Service at 9.15am on Sunday, December 3 rd.) Thursday, December 7 th : Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols at 7.00pm, in partnership with H. Eaton & Sons. This will include an opportunity to sign a Book of Remembrance and light a candle in memory of loved ones for those who have been recently bereaved. Refreshments follow the service in the Parish Hall. Saturday, December 9 th : Handel s Messiah performed by Ilkley and Otley Choral Societies at St Margaret s at 7.00pm. With Juliet Montgomery, Soprano, the Yorkshire Chamber Ensemble and Conductor Yonni Levy. Tickets 12 from Grove Music, Ilkley; Choral members and on the door. Christingle Children s Party Food Contributions Our annual Christingle Children s party is on Sunday, December 3 rd, following the Christingle Service at 4.00pm. This is a lovely start to our celebrations and an excellent time to bring along new friends to share in our hospitality. We would be very grateful to anyone who is able to contribute to our party food! Please sign up on the list at the back of church or by the coffee hatch in the parish hall with whatever you are able to bring. (Food can be left in the kitchen fridge following morning service). The group will normally meet on Sunday evenings at 5.45pm 6.45pm in the Parish Hall. For more details please speak to Fr Philip (607210) and/or sign up on the list at the back of Church. Secondly, there will be an Adult Enquirers Course for those who would like to know more about the Christian faith and, in particular, explore and ask those questions about Christianity which may interest or trouble you. The Enquirers Course will be particularly suitable for the parents who attend our Family Service or newer members of our congregations. The Enquirers Course will begin in January too and meet initially for five weeks. If you would like to know more please speak to Fr Philip (607210) and/or sign up on the list at the back of Church. There are quite a number of adults around the Family Service who have experienced the course and its cuisine. Ask one of them to find out how great they found it! Playtime's Christmas Appeal This year we join Churches Together in Ilkley to give bags of Christmas treats to needy families. These are people of all ages. If you would like to join in and need further details, please speak to any member of the Playtime team. Children's Society Collection Box Appeal Please could members of the congregation who have a house box collection for the Children's Society bring them into church over the next few weeks. Please give them to me or put them in the church safe. Many thanks for all your generosity this year. Do let me know if you would like to removed from the list. DIARY DATES Christmas Concert Friday, December 15 th at 6.30pm The Robinson Consort: University of Cambridge (Directed by Anthony Gray) performs with Ilkley Grammar School and St. Margaret s Junior Choirs Collection on the door Sunday, December 17 th at 10.45am The Robinson Consort: University of Cambridge High Mass sung by the Robinson Consort and the Choir of St Margaret s Music by Guilmant, Sir James Macmillan and Christopher Rathbone Services for Christmas in the Residential Homes of our Parish During the final days of Advent St Margaret s leads a service of Christmas Carols, Readings, Prayers, and the reception of Holy Communion in each of the residential rest and care homes in our parish. These are greatly appreciated by the residents, especially when they are also supported by members of our congregations.
