Cantors: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, heavenly King, O God almighty Father. All: Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! Cantors: Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. All: Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! Cantors: For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. All: Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo! OPENING PRAYER Celebrant: Let us pray At the end of the prayer the response is: Amen LITURGY OF THE WORD All sit FIRST READING A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans 8: 31-39 With God on our side who can be against us? Since God did not spare his own Son, but gave him up to benefit us all, we may be certain, after such a gift, that he will not refuse anything he can give. Could any-one accuse those that God has chosen? When God acquits, could anyone condemn? Could Christ Jesus? No! He not only died for us he rose from the dead, and there at God s right hand he stands and pleads for us. Nothing therefore can come between us and the love of Christ, even if we are troubled or worried, or being persecuted, or lacking food or clothes or being threatened or even attacked. As scripture promised: For your sake we are being massacred daily, and reckoned as sheep for the slaughter. These are the trials through which we triumph, by the power of him who loved us. For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, no angel, no prince, nothing that exists, nothing still to come, not any power, or height or depth, nor any created thing, can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord. The word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God Page 3

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 123:2-5. 7-8 Rv.7 All join in the response. Cantor: Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler. Response: Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler. Cantor: If the Lord had not been on our side when men rose against us, then would they have swallowed us alive when their anger was kindled. Response: Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler. Cantor: Then would the waters have engulfed us, the torrent gone over us; over our heads would have swept the raging waters Response: Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler. Cantor: Indeed the snare has been broken And we have escaped Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Response: Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION All stand All sing: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Spoken: Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven. All sing: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. GOSPEL Matthew 24: 4-13 Celebrant: The Lord be with you All: And with your spirit. Celebrant: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew All: Glory to you, Lord You will be hated by all the nations on account of my name Jesus said to his disciples, Take care that no one deceives you; because many will come using my name and saying, I am the Christ, and they will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumours of wars; do not be alarmed, for this is something that must happen, but the end will not be yet. For nation will fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes here and there. All this is only the beginning of the birthpangs. Then they will hand you over to be tortured and put to death; and you will be hated by all the nations on account of my name. And then many will fall away; men will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise; they will deceive many, and with the increase of lawlessness, love in most men will grow cold; but the man who stands firm to the end will be saved. The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Page 4

All sit HOMILY THE PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL We pray for Pope Francis, Bishop Marcus and for all the priests who serve our parishes. We ask that more of our young people hear your call to take up vocations in the priesthood and the consecrated life. Reader: Lord hear us Response: Lord graciously hear us We pray that the light of Christ radiates out through us and reaches our partner schools around the world. We pray especially for the staff and students at Mnyakanya High School, Franziskus Gymnasium and Lycée Murat. Help us to care for others in the world who have less than us: show us what we can do for those who need our aid. Reader: Lord hear us Response: Lord graciously hear us We pray for all the staff who have worked here over the past 50 years and contributed so much to develop the strengths and talents of our many pupils. May the dedication and vision of Canon Charles Murray and John Dalton inspire us to take the school on to do your work in the next half century. Reader: Lord hear us Response: Lord graciously hear us We pray for the staff who will leave St. Mary s this summer. We give thanks for everything they have done for the school whether over a long or short time: each has made a unique contribution to life at our school. We pray that you will stay with them as they move on to the next stage in their lives. Reader: Lord hear us Response: Lord graciously hear us As our school year draws to a close, we give thanks for all the staff that they may be guided by your spirit to continue to work in the light of Christ. In baptism they received the Light of Christ, may they now enter into the radiance of heaven. Reader: Lord hear us Response: Lord graciously hear us As the community of St. Mary s, we ask Our Lady to intercede for us as we say, Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Page 5

Our Values

Our Purpose The work of the school is the spiritual, moral, intellectual, aesthetic and physical development of each pupil. It seeks to put Christ at the centre of every activity, worship, learning and service to others.

St. Mary s Menston a Catholic Voluntary Academy YEARS 1964 5 2014 15 Celebrating 50 Years of Catholic Education Photo: Our school was officially blessed and opened by the Rt. Rev. Mgr. George Patrick Dwyer, Bishop of Leeds, 3 July 1965. In December 1964, Mr John Dalton (Headmaster 1964 1987) was very pleased with the spirit which is already evident in this school. Our pupils have settled in remarkably well and there is a happy purposeful atmosphere prevailing.
