They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" John 8:3-5 NIV This month many were outrage at the acts of Officer Robert Powell. Officer Powell made a traffic stop involving Houston Texan Running back Ryan Moat in Plano, Texas. Ryan and his family had received a call from the Regional Medical Center letting them know that his wife s mother was on her death bed. In an attempt to make it to the Medical Center before his mother-in-law died, Moats having looked both ways and droved through a red light. Officer Powell pulled him over in the Medical Center parking lot. Officer Robert Powell drew his gun as family member got out of the car to rush to the bed side. As Moat was rightly upset, he tried to explain what was going on. Officer Powell says, Shut your mouth. You can either settle down and cooperate or I can just take you to jail for running a red light. Office Powell also say at some point, I can screw you over. Another officer came with word that Moats motherin-law was really dying. Officer Powell said, All right. I m almost done. 13 minutes had passed. Jonetta Collinsworth, 45-year-old died before they could make it to her bed side. Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle apologized to the Moat/Collinsworth family. Chief Kunkle says of Officer Powell s behavior, His behavior, in my opinion, did not exhibit the common sense, the discretion, the compassion that we expect our officers to exhibit. See Page 2... Page 2 The Word of the Month By Pastor Michael Eaton The Running Back, The Police Officer, and The Compassion of Jesus As we look that our text today we will see how Jesus uses his common sense, carefulness or discretion, and compassion to teach us some valuable lessons. Common Sense In John 8:3 the teachers of the law and the Pharisees were trying to trap Jesus. However in order to trap Jesus it seem that they trap a woman. It seems like a trap because it takes two people to be caught in adultery. They had the woman, but where was the man? Using my sanctify imagination I believe they may have paid the man to sleep with the woman. After all this is the same group of people who would paid Jusus to betray Jesus. They would let the man go free and bring the woman to trap Jesus. As a teacher of the law surely Jesus was to say stone her to death. If Jesus would let her go free he could be accused of being disobedience to the Law of Moses. Jesus being God had good spiritual common sense know that they were trying to trap Him. We at times need to pray that God will give us common sense to see through the trap of the devil. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT, The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. Carefulness Ryan Moat was guilty of running a red light. Officer Powell should have used his discretion and let him off with a warning and escorted he and his family to the bed side Jonetta Collinsworth. By law police officers can take you to jail for running a red light. However, they must use they discretion to determine whether you are a risk to society once you have ran a red light. Most of the time a police officer will not take you to jail for running a red light. How there are two more options to his discretion. He can write you a ticket or let you off with a warning. Officer Powell wrote Ryan Moat a ticket and threatens jail. This is all up to a police officer s discretion. Jesus would have to interpret the law in the same way police officers do. He uses His discretion and decides to let the woman caught in the act of adultery of with a warning. Praise is to God for his grace!.roman 5:20-21NIV says, The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Compassion People were outraged by Officer Powell reaction to Ryan Moat. Had he not been and NFL player we may have never heard the story. It could have been one of the countless stories of racial profiling. However, people of all races where outraged at Officer Powell lack of compassion. Jesus in the text show the woman caught in the very act of adultery compassion. Jesus said, He who is without sin let him cast the first stone. The man knew that there was sin in they live. Maybe even the same sin of adultery with this same woman. They did not stone her. After they left Jesus let her off with a warning and said, Go and sin no more. I think we should show the compassion of Jesus to Officer Powell and let him off with a warning and say, Jesus says to you, Go and sin no more. We at Bethlehem should have this kind of compassion to sinner saved by grace and to sinner not saved by grace. This will be the Month of Compassion. Truly In Christ,

Page 4 H e a r G o d s W o r d Grace and Mercy By Minister of Music: Sis. Tommie E. Sampson MERCY by Webster s dictionary says it means A disposition to show kindness or compassion. MERCY implies compassion that forbears punishing even when justice demands it. GRACE implies a benign attitude and a willingness to grant favors or make concessions. Titus 3:3-7 NIV At one time, we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. I like the way The Message Bible say it: It wasn t so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn, dupes of sin, ordered every which by our glands, going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us fro all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit. Our Savior Jesus poured out new life so generously. God s gift has restored our relationship with him and given us back our lives. And there s more life to come--- an eternity of life! You can count on this. So can you say - Hmmmmmm. What a thought! Does it sometime appear as though we are living like death row convicts just waiting for the day of our execution? Many of us are apparently living with some regrets over past crimes or sins that we have committed and we can t seem to move on. But Jesus said to us, My burdens are light Matthew 11:30, but we live from day to day with a weight of guilt upon our shoulders that hinders us from moving further along in our relationship with the Lord. Whenever we mess up at some small task in life or when we mess up spiritually, we beat ourselves up emotionally and we even question our salvation. We question how God could ever love us when we are such a mess, and then we actually punish ourselves by saying in our minds that we are stupid and worthless. Sometimes we go as far as to keep ourselves from spending time with the Lord, because we feel as though we are not worthy to come into His Presence. We feel it s our responsibility to chastise ourselves for our crimes. Well, well, do I have good news for you this month! Each of us makes mistakes that are sometimes worthy of severe punishment, however, God forgives us and loves us for who we are. This is a lesson that the apostle Paul had to learn, for Paul struggled with sin too. (Read Romans 7:14-1, 25; Romans 3:10; Romans 3:23; Romans 8:1) Saying all this, I want to take you to verses 4-7, Paul talks about how the Holy Spirit has washed us clean from our sins. He tells us that, we are not made clean by anything that we do, but we are made clean by the kindness and the love of God our Savior, and he says that we have been justified by His Grace. The major place where we run into trouble is in understanding and accepting God s Grace. Grace is defined as, The unmerited favor of God toward men. In the New Testament the Greek word for grace is charis, meaning a gift. Grace is something that we receive from another that we do not obtai8n through our own efforts. Therefore, God s love for us cannot be earned, but must be humbly accepted. We really try hard not to sin. We try to be the perfect and model Christian in order to please God and in order to make God happy. We forget that God loves us for who we are. When God saved us he didn t expect us to change first, but he came to us right where we were in our sins. We often set standards for ourselves that we think will please God, and then when we fail, we feel like failures..

V o l u m e 2 2, I s s u e 1 Page 5 We have to realize that God loves us for who we are, and we don t have to perform for him and try to be perfect for him because that is something we can never achieve. If we try to strive to such heights we will fall flat on our faces time and time again. It s true that God does not approve of sin, but you have probably heard that God hates the sin but loves the one who sins. God doesn t like it when we sin, but he loves us anyhow, no matter what we have done, and we need to learn to accept his unconditional love and forgiveness, or his grace. He has compassion for us and it is not limited. He shows compassion for us, His best and most precious creation. Even though we have sinned and walked away from His Presence, rejecting Him. For He sent His one and Only Son to bleed and die on the cross so that we could have forgiveness and eternity in heaven. Everybody should say Amen. He is the Author of Compassion. Let us act on God s Grace through Godly living. When we have received God s grace, we then need to live in obedience to His desires, which is living a life of holiness and love. To do otherwise is to ignore God s grace. Then let us appreciate His grace through our worship, giving all glory and honor to Him. You see, for Paul, it was like a spontaneous expression for God s grace to bow down and give honor and glory to God. And if we truly understand God s grace, it should be, as well as Paul s was, our response also. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord How about that Jonah in the belly of the fish What do you think about the three Hebrew boys locked in jail. And who was that in the lion s den Daniel God s grace gave Deborah wisdom Who wouldn t serve a God like that? Tell me.. Grace and Mercy He had on me; Grace and Mercy He had on me. When I was down He picked me up I was on the verge of giving up Grace and Mercy He had on me. Valley Idol Monday, April 5, 2009 Pauls Valley High School Auditorium 7:30 P.M. Page 6 Will you Become a Disciple? By: Morrie Baltzell-President: Brotherhood H e a r G o d s W o r d Genesis 1:9-13 (King James Version) 9And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13And the evening and the morning were the third day. We all have a title to which our job describes to us whether you are a lawyer, doctor, LPN, RN, mechanic, engineer, steward, pilot, chef, dishwasher, writer professional baseball, basketball, football golf, hockey, tennis, truck driver, taxi river, general contractor, chairman of the board or president. Whatever your title is, one must have the title of disciple. One should be a follower of Jesus! A Disciple is a follower of a person or idea; also one of the twelve original followers of Christ. Luke 14:26 (New International Version) 26"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters yes, even his own life he cannot be my disciple. John 13:34-35 (New International Version) 34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." This can be a testimony for what the Lord has done for you. If and when your experience with God s love, grace and mercy is heard from our months with what Jesus can do. Psalm 37:4 (New International Version) 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. So Bethlehem, let us delight ourselves in the Lord. Let us be witnesses unto the Lord and be obedient. I have already envisioned Bethlehem s love and the ministries in which people will receive the knowledge of God s will being done especially Our own individual purposes being worked out in God s Kingdom. What is man s reasonable service? 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. Bethlehem, let us move to a higher level, let us grow stronger all together as one body. Catch the vision of Kingdom building! When we quit the journey, you stop following the Spirit of God.. Hew won t be able to do a work in your life. I am going forward towards my individual mission of the journey in the Gospel.

Page 8 The Heart of a Christian Woman By First Lady Kimberly Eaton 1 Proverbs 3:5-6(NIV) Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. The Heart of a Christian woman is a curriculum designed to explore the different areas of the Christian Woman s Heart. In the fifth class, we studied A Praying New Heart : H e a r G o d s W o r d Thesis: Christian Women Should Pray in Faith and Forgive Others So That Their Prayers Can Be Answered. Scripture: Mark 11:24-26 (NIV) 24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]. 25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and ] let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your failings and shortcomings. "Points: 1. A Faithful Heart v.24 2. A Forgiving Heart v25 3. A Freeing Heart v26 As Christians, we should understand that just because we go to church does not make us useful in God s Kingdom. We may work around the church, but just like the fig tree, it did not bear fruit. We must pray in faith and believe that our prayers will be answered. Christians must forgive those who trespass against us in order for God to forgive us. This is Women s Month and the pastor taught a wonderful lesson last Wednesday. He will be preaching this month on Compassion and Women. You don t want to miss any of these powerful lessons this month. Also, let s be in support of the Revival as the feeling is in the air that God is going to move in a mighty way. Women of Bethlehem, this month concludes this wonderful study The Heart of a Christian Woman. If you have not been in attendance, you just don t know what you have been missing. We want you to be a part of this awesome group of women who are committed to discovering their destiny. You were placed on this earth for Kingdom Building. As we continue in our study, we will began a course entitled The Heart of Intercession on Monday evening. Why don t you join us as we move forward into hoping, dreaming and desiring what God has for us as Women of Bethlehem. Why don t you prepare your heart and become a part of God s Kingdom Let s become a part of His agenda today.
