ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO August 6, 2017 READINGS FOR AUGUST 13 1Kings 19:9a, 11-13a Romans 9:1-5 Matthew 14:22-33 With heartfelt thanks for your STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE July 29 & 30 Adults $5,565.55 Children $1.00 IN THE MILITARY Please pray for those serving in the military. Lord, protect our military as they sacrifice for us; bless them and their families for their continuing selflessness. OH MY GOSH! A NOTE ABOUT THE 4TH SUNDAY OF ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS MASSES! 2017 is one of those delightful years for liturgists and sacristans and choir members and art and environment coordinators! While we still love it, it IS a bit stressful! Why? Because the 4th Sunday of Advent falls on December 24! That means that we have Sunday Mass in the morning and have to begin preparing immediately for Christmas Masses a handful of hours later!. Finishing the set up of the crèche, taking down Advent banners, putting up Christmas banners, setting up the poinsettia tree, and doing all other things to be ready for Christmas Eve Mass at 5 p.m.!!!! Please note that in order to give us more time to make the preparations necessary for Christmas, THERE WILL BE ONLY ONE MASS ON SUN- DAY MORNING, DECEMBER 24, THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT. MASS WILL BE AT 9 A.M. There will be no Mass at 8:00 a.m. OR 10:30! Please note this on your calendars! Join us in the Smith Building SUNDAY, following Mass, for Coffee & Donut Sunday We will be featuring our FAIR TRADE COFFEE! (Coffee, donuts, bagels, fruit, & juice will be available.) DO YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY HEARING AT MASS? If so, we have several devices in the vesting sacristy (where the priests and servers dress for Mass) that are programmed directly to our sound system. They greatly enhance one s ability to hear the Mass more clearly and distinctly. Check with the deacon before Mass, or just look in the right-hand drawer.

ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO August 6, 2017 INVITE A FRIEND TO JOIN THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY! Have you had family or friends ask you about your Catholic faith? Or do you know someone who is seeking something deeper in their lives? Invite them to explore the Catholic faith through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). People who are unbaptized or who have been baptized in another faith but wish to become Catholic are invited to learn about the faith, encounter Jesus Christ and His love in prayer and liturgical worship, and lead a life of discipleship supported by the faith community. I have come that you may have life and have it to the full. John 10:10. If you or someone you know is interested, contact Shaughn Phillips at shaughn.phillips@sthelenparish.org or at 254-6233 to learn more about being initiated into the church. Inquiry sessions about Catholicism begin August 22 at 7 pm in the St. Julie Center. Earlier this year, we introduced a new and exciting way for you to support our parish offertory and second collections: Faith Direct. Faith Direct enables parishioners to make your Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/debit card. No more writing checks or searching for envelopes on the way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your mortgage, car or tuition payments. Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket. Our parish code is OH790. You can go to the parish website, www.sthelenparish.org and click on the Faith Direct button or go to www.faithdirect.net! MANY, MANY THANKS!!! On behalf of Dayton Right to Life and myself, I want to sincerely thank you all for the generous support and donations to this year s baby shower. It was one of the most generous showers that I have hosted. Thank you also to Mary Ellen Pfeil who also helped during the shower. Donations are accepted year round and for more information on their work or on the Stork s Nest baby pantry you can visit: daytonlife.org. God Bless! Melissa Heil

ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO August 6, 2017 A Thought for Transfiguration Sunday We can neither control nor change how anyone else sees the world. Nor do we have the power to make our way of seeing the world understood by others.
