I have accepted Jesus into my heart now what? New Believer s Course Introductory lesson

If you are reading this, it is probably because you have just recently accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior, and/or you are wanting to learn more. Congratulations! All heaven rejoices! What do you do after this? Now it is time to get to know God better and grow in your relationship with Him. This New Believer s Course was designed to provide some important lessons that will help you get established in your new faith and have a closer relationship with Jesus. The purpose of this lesson is to give you some very important instructions to be prepared as you go back to your everyday life and experience new things as a Christian and fight the battles you will face in the imminent future. Those who know about seeds will tell you that for it to grow into a strong fruitful plant it will need three main things: water sunlight soil Without one of these three things a plant will not grow, and will eventually die. In a similar way, when Jesus Christ came into your heart to be your Lord and Savior, it is as though He came into your heart as a tiny little seed (1 John 3:9). Now, whether or not that seed within you will begin to grow and become strong is up to you. The spiritual seed that is within you also needs three things in order to grow and become strong: Bible reading Prayer to God Church attendance Without even one of these three things, that spiritual seed within you will also eventually die!

I. Read the Bible! The Bible is God s Word to us and is the main way that He speaks to us today. Though there were many human authors, God inspired each of them to write the T things that they wrote (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21). The Bible is given to us that we might know and understand more about God and His ways. The things that are there show us how we should live our lives on this earth. Reading the Bible everyday will make us strong in our faith and prepare us for battles against the enemy. I want you to get a Bible begin to read at least one chapter every day, and obey the things that you read. A good place to start is in the Gospel of John (in the New Testament, see the Table of Contents in the front of your Bible to find a page number). II. Pray to God! Prayer is communication with God. You can talk to God just like you talk to another person. It is not just memorized words. You do not need to go to a priest to talk to God, you can talk directly to Him. It is imperative that you begin to speak to God on a daily basis, and even set aside a specific time every morning to speak to Him. Tell Him how grateful you are that He has saved you. Ask Him for strength to turn away from your sins, and ask Him to guide you as you read His Word and search for a church. Prayer is also a weapon against the enemy of your soul; through prayer you are weakening his power against you. III. Go to Church. Going to church is going to help meet other people who have the same faith. We need with the Lord. 2) You will hear preaching you to understand the Bible better. We do you in many ways: 1) You will others to encourage us as we walk of God s Word, which will help need men and women of God to help us understand. Philip asked a man if he understood what he was reading from the Bible and 1

the man replied how can I, except some man should guide me? (Acts 8:31). 3) It is an act of obedience (Hebrews 10:25). Finding a good church can be a difficult task for a new believer, so I would recommend that you speak to the person who gave you this pamphlet, and ask them to guide you to a good church. If you do not have the luxury of asking someone, I can give you some guidelines: 1) Go to a place that exalts and magnifies the name of Jesus Christ. Many churches will talk a lot about Mary, or will talk of a certain prophet (who founded their particular church), and will glorify them and not Jesus. 2) Go to a place that preaches from the Bible. It is very important for you to find a good church and be in weekly attendance. If you will begin to do these three things in your life and begin immediately, you will see wonderful things begin to happen inside you. That seed inside you will begin to grow and you will become strong in your faith. Prepare for a battle. The reason you need to become strong is because there is an enemy, known as Satan or the Devil. I am sure that you have heard of him. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you left the Devil s family and joined the family of God. The Devil does not like that, and you have just become his enemy. He does not let go of his former subjects without a fight. You will see in the next few days and weeks that he will come against you in different ways. One of the ways that he will attack you is through temptation to sin. He will encourage you to go back to your old life. If you formerly drank alcohol or used drugs he will tempt you with those same things again. You must be strong and fight back. We fight him as we pray and ask God to help us to be victorious over temptations. The Word of God is also important to us in our battle against the Devil. The Bible tells us it is like a sword (Hebrews 4:12, Ephesians 6:17), and we use it against the enemy when he tempts us. The Bible tells us that if we resist the devil he will flee from us (James 4:7), and the way we resist him is by wielding our sword. For example: if you are being tempted with lust you can speak to the enemy and say something like this I resist you in the name of Jesus, because it is written abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul (1 Peter 2:11). This is a practice in the life of a believer that 2

you may have to do many times in a day, but do not be discouraged, God is IN YOU, and He that is in you is greater than the enemy (1 John 4:4). If you keep fighting these battles you will eventually overcome the enemy. Two other ways that the enemy will try to attack you is through doubt and fear. He will especially try to make you doubt that you have really been saved, and fear that your sins are not really forgiven. You can resist these thoughts like I showed you above, because the Bible tells us: He that hath the Son hath life: and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (13) These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:12-13). You accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and that means that you have the Son and that means that you have eternal life (you are saved and your sins are forgiven). These words were written so that we would KNOW that we have eternal life, and that we would continue to believe on Jesus Christ. You have made a wonderful decision to ask the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior! This is a very rewarding decision, however in many ways that was the easy part. Now walking out that decision can be EVEN MORE rewarding, but it is NOT always going to be easy. That is one of the reasons we have decided to develop this course, to help you to become strong in your faith, and continue in your walk with Jesus Christ. If you will begin to read the Bible, go to church, pray, and begin to fight the enemy, you will begin to grow strong in the Lord. This New Believers Course is made up of multiple lessons, and is entirely cost free. To continue in the course simply email your test question answers to zionfellowshipzambia@gmail.com. 3
