We will serve the Lord THE WELCOME Welcome each child as they arrive. Hello. I m glad you are here! Come open the Treasure Chest to find today s treasure. Child unlocks the Treasure Chest to receive a stamp or sticker of a happy face. Let this stamp or sticker of a happy face help you remember to serve the Lord together with your friends. Today s Whisper Verse is We will serve the Lord. To serve the Lord is to do things for Him. Teach the Whisper Verse in spoken language and in sign language below. We call it the Whisper Verse so you can whisper it to others.* SIGN LANGUAGE: We will serve the Lord. (For visual demonstrations, see www.signingsavvy.com.) Each time we say today s Whisper Verse, let s say it with three hand motions: We (will) serve (the) Lord. Right index finger points down at the ground with hand beginning at the right shoulder and moving around the front of the chest in a half circle motion to the left shoulder. Both hands are placed in front of the body, palms facing up. They are then alternately moved closer to and further from the body. Extend thumb and index finger of right hand to create an L shape. Bring L shape diagonal across chest from the left shoulder to the right hip as a royal sash. Allow children to enjoy free play until everyone has arrived. Let s sing the Clean Up Song as we put toys away before Praise Time. Praise any child who helps. Allow several minutes for clean up. Clean Up Song : Clean up! Clean up! Everybody, everywhere! Clean up! Clean up! Everybody do your share! Gather and seat children in Praise Time area. *Today s Whisper Verse: We will serve the Lord, Joshua 24:15b. The Whisper Verse is a tool to help the children learn a major point in the lesson. It is coupled with sign language or hand motions as a memory aid. The verse is not necessarily chosen from today s Bible story. Page 3 of 10

The God who saves us THE WORSHIP Teacher Tip: To help children identify time set aside for worship, designate a special corner or area for singing, collecting offering, and watching the worship illustration. Play Praise Time: Love the Lord Your God as children move to that designated area. It s Praise Time our time to sing praise to the God who saves us! We want to praise Him and to serve Him. To serve the Lord is to do things for Him. That reminds me of our Whisper Verse today. Let s try it together. Review Whisper Verse together: We will serve the Lord. Include sign language. Let s serve the Lord by singing praise to Him while we give our money offering to the church. Sing: God Is So Good or Let Everything That Has Breath while collecting the offering. In today s story, we will learn about two of Paul s friends who served the Lord with him. The woman s name was Priscilla and her husband s name was Aquila. Let s practice saying their names together. Lead children in saying Priscilla and Aquila. Priscilla, Aquila, and Paul were all tentmakers, so they worked together to make tents. They served the Lord by helping people follow Jesus. Sing: Praise Time: Love the Lord Your God. Let s see if Delbert & Lello have ever heard of Priscilla and Aquila. Perform The Adventures of Delbert and Lello puppet script or read storybook: Prophets & Promises Unit 3, Lesson 16. Priscilla, Aquila, and Paul served the Lord together. They knew the Lord was with them. They knew He was mighty to save! Sing: He Is Mighty to Save and Everyone Who Calls. Page 4 of 10

Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila THE WORD Before we begin our Bible Time, let s say our Classroom Promise with the motions. With my eyes on my teacher; Point to eyes. My mouth quiet as can be, Place index finger over mouth as quiet sign. I will listen to hear, Cup hand around ear. How God loves you and me. Hug self, point to others, and then self. Last time, we learned Jesus has risen. He is alive! Today, we will see how Paul and his friends worked and served the Lord together. Handle Bible as a special treasure, leaving it open to Acts 18:3. WATCH THE WORD: ACTS 18:1-4; ROMANS 16:3-5a Read the points below or retell the passage in your own words using the points below as a general guide. To illustrate the story, display a Traveling Paul craft sample. Other visual options include Color This Story or any related picture. Paul took a trip to Corinth. He stayed there with two new friends. Their names were Priscilla and Aquila. They all worked at making tents. Priscilla and Aquila worked together; With Paul, they served the Lord. The church met in their home, To learn about God some more. What did Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila make together? (Tents.) Let s find our answer in the Bible. Read Acts 18:3 from the teacher s Bible. Who did Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila serve together? (The Lord.) Our Whisper Verse tells us the answer. Let s say it together: We will serve the Lord. Include sign language or hand motions. Remember, Lord is one of God s special names. Page 5 of 10

We can serve the Lord together THE WAY Teacher Tip: Craft and games can be presented at the same time in different areas or one at a time depending on class size and teaching style. CRAFT: TRAVELING PAUL Purpose: To remind the children that Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila served the Lord together. Supplies: Sturdy paper, cardboard, felt, paper fasteners, tape or glue, crayons or markers Prepare: Print and cut out Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila standing together. Place sturdy paper horizontally. On the left side, draw the outline of a tent. On the right side, draw the outline of a Bible. On the bottom, print: Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila served the Lord together. Acts 18:1-4, Romans 16:3-5a. Poke a hole through the bottom of the Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila cut out and a hole in the center of the sturdy paper. From felt or cloth, cut a square the same size as the tent. Optional: Instead of paper fasteners, attach Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila on a craft stick. Cut a slit in the bottom of the sturdy paper. Insert the craft stick in the slit so Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila can be moved from left (tent) to right (Bible). 1. Attach the felt or cloth square to the tent. 2. Color the Bible. 3. Color Paul and his friends. 4. Push the paper fastener through the holes in the bottom of Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila and in the sturdy paper. The friends should move across the paper like a dial on a meter. Craft Discussion: Who did Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila serve? (The Lord.) That s like our Whisper Verse! Let s say it with our motions right now! Say the Whisper Verse with the hand motions. Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila worked together. What did they make? (Tents.) Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila served the Lord by teaching others about following Jesus. To serve the Lord is to do things for Him. There are many ways we can serve the Lord together! Helping others is one way we can serve Him. What would you like to do to serve the Lord with your friends? (Children respond.) Page 6 of 10

THE WAY continued GAME: TENTMAKERS TOGETHER Purpose: Children will practice working together to put up a tent as Paul and his friends did. Let children draw or color on the sheets or fabric scraps to decorate before making the tent. Paul and his friends made tents together. Do you think we can make a tent together just like Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila? 1. Spread the sheet on the floor. 2. Children stand on all sides and grasp an edge of the sheet. 3. Lift the sheet high and pull it tight. 4. Walk together around the edges of the large table, lifting the sheet over it. 5.
