Bethel Weekly Notes June 26th Friday, July 3rd 2015 Dear Colter, The Mission builders don't just build churches, they also help set up for worship! If you get a chance, please extend your thanks to them for everything they do outside of their "day jobs." Be aware, the office may be closed unexpectedly during the week from here on out through construction. If you have any announcements for the notes, or notice missing files or features, please make sure to email: bethelgf.church@gmail.com by Wednesday at midnight. 1 of 6 7/1/15 1:05 PM

Yet none of this power is unilateral; it all must be received by faith. Jesus asks his disciples to go out without money or supplies, so that they will be dependent on how others receive them. When we are sent from the assembly to witness and to heal, we are asked to be vulnerable, to be dependent on the reception of others. The Spirit always operates in the between: between Jesus and his Abba, between Jesus and us, between you and me, between us and those to whom we are sent. Ezekiel 2:1-5 In 597 B.C., the priest Ezekiel was removed into exile in Babylon. While there, he received a vision of God appearing majestically on a chariot throne. Today's reading recounts God's commissioning of Ezekiel during this vision. The 7/1/15 1:05 PM

Rather, Christian boasting focuses attention on how the power of Christ is present in our lives, especially in times of weakness and vulnerability. No matter what our circumstances in life, Christ's grace is sufficient for us. Mark 6:1-13 At home and abroad, Jesus and his disciples encounter resistance as they seek to proclaim God's word and relieve affliction. Bethel Weekly Notes June 26th Building Update Hello, and Happy July! (Well, almost.) Thank you for your continued dedication to our building project! We had a little dip in our hours the week before last and logged almost 50 hours of work. Our hours were up again this last week, though, and we had close to 80 hours of work. Let's keep those numbers climbing! Here's what you can expect if you are able to help this week: *There will be NO WORK done Saturday due to the 4th of July holiday. *We will be needing more volunteers in the coming weeks! Some larger projects are coming our way! Please take care to read your Building Committee updates so you know when/what these are! *Remember - you don't have to work a full day just to volunteer! We appreciate any time you can give! Projects will include: *Removing the brick on the exterior of many areas of church *Chipping mortar off the brick so it can be re-used. This job can be done on a chair in the shade, or you can even take some bricks home to chip away on at your leisure! *Measuring help - no special skill required! You just need to ability to hold the end of a tape measure still! *Scanning/ office help. Paperwork is piling up, and we would appreciate some hands in the office! *As always, there will be other various projects that come up during the week. Stop by and check out the details! Finally, there are still a couple of opportunities to provide snacks/ lunch for the crews. If you are able to help, check the signup sheet in the Gathering Place. We wish you and yours a happy 4th of July. If you have some free hours, we hope to see you around the church to help! Wall Raising set for Saturday, July 11th. Join the Bethel Building Volunteers and Mission Builders for a wall raising on Saturday, July 11th at 9 AM. 4 of 6 7/1/15 1:05 PM

Bethel Weekly Notes June 26th We've all seen the photos of the community coming together to build a building by raising the walls. Now's the chance for the Bethel Lutheran Church community to experience the joy of working together to raise the walls for the new entry and reception room. All are invited, even if you don't think you can lift a wall. There will be refreshments just after the raising, and the opportunity continue the construction of your new building. Udo's Thoughts Marriage Equality Marriage equality is now the law of the land and same-sex couples who choose to get married will gain access to all the rights, protections, and responsibilities associated with marriage. I'm glad for the many family friends that I was associated with for the past 40+ years. Something that Terree and I took for granted is now available to those friends. I believe this is a very good example of God's wish for justice and righteousness in the world. I understand that the people of Bethel decided many years ago that ALL ARE WELCOME. If we are to include same sex couples in this welcome we still need to ensure that information 5 of 6 7/1/15 1:05 PM

Bethel Weekly Notes June 26th published about Bethel includes language specific to this. As for wedding ceremonies in our sanctuary, we need to be clear about whether we allow same-sex wedding ceremonies in our sanctuary. I'm absolutely in favor of allowing these ceremonies in our sanctuary. You may hear more about this from our leadership in the coming months. What is your position on this? It maybe uncomfortable at first, but Jesus made his followers frequently uncomfortable. I also hope that ELCA theologians provide us with a solid framework to move forward as we welcome married same-sex couples into our congregations. Udo FLBC Summer Campers! At last count we are aware of at least 26 campers who have registered for a week at Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp. That is exciting news! We have been sending mail to each one from us at the church and will include them in the prayers of the church as well. A post card(s) will be available for you to sign either before or after worship and we encourage you to pray for them for a fun and meaningful...life-changing camp experience!
