AN EARTH-HEALING PILGRIMAGE TO THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly & Santa Fe September 25 October 5, 2013 With Brad Laughlin Click here to watch a short video about the pilgrimage A journey to the Southwest is an initiation, a pilgrimage to an enchanting land imbued with rugged natural beauty and great spiritual power. It is an opportunity to reconnect with an ancient time and place when the land was honored and revered, when Mother Earth was held as sacred. The extraordinary sites we will visit still hold that sacred vibration, and the spirit of the Anasazi Indians the ancient ones is a palpable presence there. As we make our meditative, mystical sojourn and contemplate our connection with these holy places, the soul stirs, and we awaken to our vast, timeless eternality. The intention of our pilgrimage is to meditate and pray at these sacred sites, acting as human acupuncture needles to assist with the healing of the Earth. The loving, healing energy generated by the group helps to activate and illuminate the Earth grid in an especially amplified way. Our trip will include driving and hiking through breathtakingly beautiful countryside and desert, exploring ancient Anasazi ruins, meditating in profound power spots and gazing at magnificent vistas. Over the past decades we Leslie and I have been guided to these sacred sites many times, and each time we make the pilgrimage, the powerful spiritual energy of the land facilitates enormous change and growth for us. If you feel called to come, I we would enjoy sharing this experience with you, and we I offer our my services as a guides. 1

CHACO CANYON, NEW MEXICO The hub of the Anasazi culture, Chaco Canyon was an extensive spiritual and commercial center. Today it is a national monument, a pristine high-desert environment, surrounded by vast, barren expanses of unspoiled land as far as the eye can see. For all its wild beauty, Chaco seems an unlikely place for a major center of ancestral Puebloan culture to take root and flourish in the midst of the inhospitable high-desert. Yet a thousand years ago, Chaco was a thriving, dynamic community, which included monumental masonry buildings that were connected to other communities by a wide-ranging network of roads. How did they accomplish such feats in such an austere environment? And like the Anasazi of Mesa Verde, they appear to have vanished without a trace. The Anasazi s legacy of mysteries is unsolved, and yet some facts remain. During the middle and late 800s the great houses of Chaco Canyon were constructed. These extraordinary structures, many of whose wellpreserved ruins we will explore, were often oriented to solar, lunar and cardinal directions. They are surrounded by sophisticated astronomical markers (including the famous sun dagger, a petroglyph discovered to be the oldest known marker of solstices, equinoxes, the annual sun cycle and the 19-year cycle of the moon), communication features, water control devices and formal earthen mounds. This evidence of their advanced skill and knowledge of astronomy, engineering and other sciences is truly remarkable and mysterious, especially for a people with no written language. Chaco Canyon is one of our favorite power places in the world. We will immerse ourselves in its numinous aura for an afternoon day, which will include a long hike amidst the pristine beauty of the vast high-desert and time for meditating and exploring the petroglyphs and ruins along the way. As there are no hotels at Chaco Canyon, we will spend the night at a simple hotel in a town outside the national monument. 2

MESA VERDE, COLORADO Ancient, mysterious Mesa Verde. More than 1000 years ago, a people thrived on this high green plateau in what is now southwest Colorado, developing into a culture known for its magnificent artistry and architecture. And then suddenly they disappeared without a trace, leaving behind their majestic cliff dwellings, kivas and a palpable meditative presence, which permeates the ancient ruins. Who were these people and where did they go? Their modern-day Native American descendants call them the Anasazi, meaning ancient ones. Mesa Verde s mystical wind seems to whisper the answer to the mystery of their disappearance, which is still unresolved by archaeologists and anthropologists. We journey to this power spot to hike, explore the ruins, meditate and breathe-in the spirit of the Southwest, absorbing the beauty and the magic of this enchanting land. We will be staying at the Far View Lodge, a simple, quiet hotel, with fine dining and modern conveniences, high atop the mesa, with one-hundredmile views off each private balcony. We are minutes from the Anasazi ruins, and far from modern civilization. Mesa Verde National Park is brimming with pinon and juniper trees, high mesas and deep valleys. MONUMENT VALLEY, ARIZONA Monument Valley offers some of the most enduring and recognized images of the American West. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over decades for movies, postcards and so forth, depicting the quintessential wild west. 3

Its wide, flat, desolate landscape is magnificently interrupted by the crumbling rock formations rising hundreds of feet into the air, which are the last remnants of the sandstone layers that once covered the entire region. As part of the Navajo Reservation, Monument Valley is a sacred land, filled with both scenic beauty and spiritual power. We will pause here for part of a day on our way from Mesa Verde to Canyon de Chelly to absorb the unique and wondrous panorama, which delights the senses and nourishes the soul. CANYON DE CHELLY, ARIZONA Leslie has a very special place in her heart for Canyon de Chelly. Here is what she has to say about this amazing place: Visiting Canyon de Chelly is much more than a retreat, it is a pilgrimage to a mystic land. This canyon has been a sacred power place for me since 1983, when I was called in a dream to visit there. The visit coincided with my first trip to Santa Fe. While at the canyon, I was blessed with a vision quest, which was life-changing and signaled an acceleration of my growth in Self-discovery. It was during this vision quest that I met the Spider Woman and several other Kachina beings who became guides to me. In the 1980s, during the time of my waking, I knew that I could only go to Canyon de Chelly when called by Spirit. The call came again in 1986, just at the beginning of my cave experience. And once again the gifts that I received there were to assist in my waking in 1988. Although I have longed to return there many times, I have been invited only four five times to return, each time to take a few of my students. With its beautiful, steep-walled canyons, prehistoric Anasazi ruins and its refined energy, Canyon de Chelly National Monument offers us a unique location for three two nights of our retreat. 4

It is known as one of the loveliest canyons in the Southwest. As with the other sacred sites we will visit, early October is considered to be an ideal time to visit, with the crisp Fall air, the gold of the Canyon de Chelly s cottonwoods and the red of the canyon walls highlighted by the autumn sun. Canyon de Chelly is located on a high plateau in the northeastern portion of the Four Corners, near the center of the Navajo Reservation. The Navajo people own the land, and it remains home for generations living and working in the canyon. It is also recognized as a Navajo sacred site and a national archeological resource. We will stay at a simple, Navajo-owned motel at the mouth of the canyon, the only hotel in the vortex of the sacred canyon. SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO A mystical, earthy land, Santa Fe the city of holy faith provides the ideal environment for transformation. In New Mexico, the land of enchantment, the clarity of the inner, psychic landscape allows one to move easefully into new levels of consciousness. Powerfully transformative, Santa Fe is favored by seekers for the transmission the area gifts to all. A certain quality of the light, the subtle beauty of the land, and spectacular vistas touch the soul very deeply and inspire expanded states of awareness. Santa Fe is a one-of-a-kind destination that reflects a unique heritage and an 5

unparalleled old-world-style ambiance. From the 400-year-old adobe walls, to the centuries-old churches, to the world-class museums and art galleries, to the blend of Hispanic, Native American and Anglo cultures, Santa Fe is a place of charm and beauty, where cultural legacies flourish and history comes alive. The final two days of our pilgrimage are spent here in this enchanting land. We are blessed to be staying in the heart of old Santa Fe within walking distance of the best museums, art galleries and shopping. We will also end our mystical sojourn with a meditation gathering at Leslie and Brad s beautiful home and sanctuary, a fifth-dimensional vortex. A perfect time to share the experiences and downloads that we have gained during our pilgrimage. Our final full day together is a new moon an auspicious end to our pilgrimage, a time for new beginnings and birthing new life! TENTATIVE ITINERARY Please note: This itinerary is subject to change. Weather permitting, balloons will begin to launch (in two waves) at about 7:15 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday October 5-6. If you feel you would like to extend your visit by a day or two in order to witness this extraordinary event, we would be happy to help you arrange your additional accommodations. 8
