The candidates greet the Archbishop on arrival Opening Procession: Instrumental. During the opening hymn, the candidates proceed into the church, with the Archbishop. Opening Hymn: Christ be our Light 1. Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you. Make us your own, your holy people, Light for the world to see. Refrain: Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Christ, be our light! Shine in your church gathered today 2. Longing for peace, our world is troubled. Longing for hope, many despair. Your word alone has pow r to save us, Make us your living voice. 3. Longing for food, many are hungry, Longing for water, many still thirst. Make us your bread, broken for others, Shared until all are fed. 4. Longing for shelter, many are homeless, Longing for warmth, many are cold. Make us your building, sheltering others, Walls made of living stone. 5. Many are the gifts, many the people, Many the hearts that yearn to belong. Let us be servants to one another, Making your kingdom come. Words of Welcome: Marthese Lufi, principal Confirmation catechist and course coordinator Penitential Rite: Lord have mercy: Mass of a Joyful Heart Gloria: Mass of a Joyful Heart!3

Refrain: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will 1. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, We give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God almighty Father. Refrain Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God Lamb of God, Son of the Father, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer, You are seated at the right hand of the Father, Have mercy on us. Refrain 2. For You alone are the Holy One You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, With the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Refrain Amen. Opening Prayer Liturgy of the Word: First reading: Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40 Moses said to the people: Put this question to the ages that are past, that went before you, from the time God created man on earth: Was there ever a word so majestic, from one end of heaven to the other? Was anything ever heard? Did ever a people hear the voice of the living God speaking from the heart of the fire, as you heard it, and remain alive? Has any god ventured to take to himself one nation from the midst of another by ordeals, signs, wonders, war with mighty hand and outstretched arm, by fearsome terrors all this that the Lord your God did for you before your eyes in Egypt? Understand this today, therefore, and take it to heart: the Lord is God indeed, in heaven above as on earth beneath, he and no other. Keep his laws and commandments as I give them to you today, so that you and your children may prosper and live long in the land that the Lord your God gives you for ever. This is the word of the Lord. Psalm: sung!4

refrain: Happy the people the Lord has chosen as his own Second reading Romans 8:14-17 Everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God. The spirit you received is not the spirit of slaves bringing fear into your lives again; it is the spirit of sons, and it makes us cry out, Abba, Father! The Spirit himself and our spirit bear united witness that we are children of God. And if we are children we are heirs as well: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, sharing his sufferings so as to share his glory. This is the word of the Lord. Gospel Acclamation: Mass of a Joyful Heart Gospel Matthew 28:16-20 The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Homily: Archbishop Hollerich Naming of Candidates: Each candidate stands as their name is called During the singing of Veni Sancte Spiritus, the candidates come forward and take their places. The congregation remain seated.!5

Confirmation Rite: Candidates only stand. Archbishop: Let us now profess our faith in God, Father, Son and Spirit and renew our baptismal promises. And so I ask you: Do you reject Satan, and all his works and all his empty promises? I do. Archbishop: Do you believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? I do. Archbishop: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father? I do. Archbishop: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who came upon the apostles at Pentecost and is today given to you sacramentally in Confirmation? I do. Archbishop: Do you believe in the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting? I do. Archbishop: This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. Laying on of Hands: Archbishop: My dear friends: in Baptism God our Father gave the new birth of eternal life to his chosen sons and daughters. Let us pray to our Father that he will pour out the Holy Spirit to strengthen his sons and daughters with his gifts and anoint them to be more like Christ the Son of God. All pray in silence for a short time. The Archbishop extends his hands over the candidates. He then says: All-powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new life. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their Helper and Guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.!6

R/ Amen. At this point the sponsors are invited to come forward and take their places, each behind their candidate. Anointing with Chrism: The Archbishop dips his thumb in the Oil of Chrism and makes the sign of the cross on the forehead of the one being confirmed. Archbishop: N, be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen Archbishop: Peace be with you. And with your Spirit. When all the candidates have been anointed, they will come forward two-by-two to light their candle on the altar. Prayers of the Faithful: Archbishop: Dear brothers and sisters, it is the Spirit of Christ who helps us to pray, and who prays in us and through us. In the power of the same Spirit, let us put our needs before God our Father: For all of us today, confirmed by the gift of the Spirit, that we may give witness to Christ by lives built on faith and love: Lord, hear us. For our parents and sponsors who have led us in faith, that by word and example they may always encourage us to follow the way of Jesus Christ: Lord, hear us. For the holy Church of God, in union with Francis our Pope, Jean-Claude our Archbishop, and all the bishops, that God, who gathers us together by the Holy Spirit, may help us grow in unity of faith and love until his Son returns in glory: Lord, hear us. For all people, of every race and nation, that they may acknowledge the one God as Father, and in the bond of common humanity seek his kingdom, which is peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Lord, hear us.!7

Concluding prayer: (Archbishop) Father, your Son promised us the Spirit so that we might become your adopted children. Hear now the prayers of your sons and daughters, and grant us what we ask in faith, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Presentation of Gifts: Gifts presented by members of the Confirmation group. Offertory Hymn Take our bread, we ask you refrain: Take our bread, we ask you, Take our hearts, we love you, Take our lives, oh Father, We are yours, we are yours. Yours as we stand at the table you set, Yours as we eat the bread our hearts can't forget. We are the signs of your life with us yet; We are yours, we are yours. Your holy people stand washed in your blood, Spirit-filled, yet hungry, we await your food. Poor though we are, we have brought ourselves to you: We are yours, we are yours. Prayer over the Gifts Eucharistic Prayer Holy, holy: Mass of a Joyful Heart Acclamation of Faith: Mass of a Joyful Heart!8
